American Idol

The girls seem stronger than the guys this year.

I dont know their names yet, but I really liked the waitress girl. From the boys, Andrew stood out.

How can someone miss the birth of their first child?? Sorry I don't get it Big Mike.

I take it someone was trying out for the show while their first child was being born?

Yep, i don't get it either.

I worked with a gentleman that was the sole breadwinner in his family...

His income was based solely on the accounts he sold and serviced...

He had three daughters... and I worked with him during the birth of two of them.

He really struggled with not being there, but his working allowed them the financing for his wife to stay at home with his daughters and provide a pretty cush life with a stay-at-home mom... and that was something they agreed on...

It certainly sounds callous, but some families have longer term motives...

I can't say if it is right or wrong, but they did it for a reason...

I understand people have to do what they have to do. Maybe by the time he found out she was in labor he wasn't going to make it in time any way. We certainly don't have all the facts.

All i can say is that I hope this person has a real shot at making it in the industry.

Exactly...

I can't say if it's right or wrong... but it's obviously is a long term decision...

Careers can be made or broken in a spit second...

I'm not sure if I could do it, but working with someone that did, with the utmost of best intentions for his kids, I can understand...

group performances are coming up & there is going to be drama. lots of drama.

All I know is that the guy that did the Pauala Abdul cover was awesome. To take that goofy pop song and make it into something soulful was brilliant.

Absolutely not. I could not stand Paula and her incessant have to be nice, but at least she knows music. I don't know that Ellen can give these kids any valuable advice. I think she is there just to make the show a comic act and a circus. She's funny, but funny was not needed on this show. Musical advice is. Even when it comes from someone as annoying as Paula Abdul.

Kind of felt this way myself, but she did seem to give some good show business advice.

Some friends of mine made a drinking game to Paula once they got to the final twelve. Every time Paula made a comment that made little to no sense, they would drink (kind of like playing James Bond). I never played it because I don't really drink that much, but they were really bummed out when Paula left the show.

They must have been smashed by the first commercial. :laugh2:

I liked the girl that sang the fitzgerald song, although she song a fitzgerald song she reminded me more of Billie Holiday (sp?). I just liked her voice and style as it was not cookie cutter like most of them.

Yeah, I saw a rumor that Howard Stern may replace Cowell. Why? These people don't know any more about music than your average person. Simon, I think, brings credibility to the show, because he's legitimately trying to find someone that will be a big success -- and he's proven he can do that.

Howard Stern's just trying to draw attention to himself. He's not being seriously considered according to this article. The AI crew is probably OK with him talking about the possibility because it keeps their brand in the news but Stern actually being on the show won't happen.

Ellen seemed to do pretty well in last night's episode, I tuned in out of curiosity. She may not be able to discuss music technical but she seems tuned into what makes people connect to singers.

I don't miss Paula's incoherence nor will I miss the stupid "fights" she had with Simon. Kara's the most musically knowledgeable on the panel but it's on her to actually show it. Randy's musically knowledgeable too but I'm past the point of expecting him to graduate past "dawg".

Seems like some pretty good talent this year. I liked Andrew, Crystal, Didi (Gemini, that's your waitress), Michael (the new daddy), Janell, and Casey and a few others whose names aren't coming to me right now.

He's honestly the only one I care to listen to again. Hopefully there are more talented people that weren't shown.

Yeah, she was good. 100x times better than Paula...who actually was worthless on the show. She was funny and not afraid to be honest...but without being too mean.
