Anyone think they will be better next year?

Look at the NFC East:
1. Highly unlikely that both the Giants & Skins will be as bad in 2014 as they were in 2013.
2. The Eagles are definitely trending upward.
3. Garrett is a lame-duck coach, along with any new or even with the current assistant coaches ~ no cohesion on the coaching front.
4. The most important position on any team, the QB ~ and Romo will be 34 rehabilitating/recovering from back surgery.
5. The defensive unit has to be totally retooled with new starters and/or the current ones need to be coached up.
6. Last and certainly not the least, Jerry, the GM has final authority over player personnel & contractual decisions (and how as that worked out over the last 15 years).

Conceivably, it could get ugly.

Don't count on it. Jerry isn't giving up on his "pet" project so quickly. He has already shown he would rather lose than admit he is wrong about his "pet". The future is more bleak than it has ever been.

That simply isn't true. We have had many teams in our past with no where near the level of talent we have now.

All we need is an average defense, not a great defense or even a good defense, an average one and we win a few more games and get in the playoffs. We lost 3 games this year that are 100% on bad defense. And we somehow won 8 game despite having the worst defense in franchise history. Or at least the worst defense since expansion years in the early 60s.

I'm sort of torn.

1. Get romo back, some other guys back...
2. Give Garrett , give romo and company one more shot.........

Or

1. new coaching staff. Hire a big name, pay him gobs, and give him FULL control ....rebuild according to his decisions......which may include keeping romo???

I'm leaning towards the latter......Something needs to change. And it has to be setting in on Jerry. Yes, he is stubborn.....egotistical. But i still believe jerry wants to win more then anything, i just think he wants to prove, to himself, it's because of him.....maybe, he has a coming to Jesus meeting, with himself. And ........does something drastic ,,like hire a GM.

It's time........right.? It's time.

Romo just got $55 million guaranteed.....................he is going to get a hell of alot more than 1 more season.............We literally could not even afford to get rid of Romo for at least 3 more seasons without taking a double digit cap penalty.

So discussing getting rid of Romo is moot at this point...............he is going to be here till he is 40 with that contract.................especially once he restructures and even more salary is converted to guaranteed money.

1. I think it is very likely both will be below .500 teams. The Giants and Skins need a lot of help. The Skins won't be getting any for a while and the Giants right now it looks like they don't have much going forward.
2. It remains to be seen if the Eagles are trending upwards. It doesn't take long in this league to fall from grace - see the Skins, Falcons, Ravens, etc. The Eagles still don't have me convinced they are here to stay. They got on a hot streak like the Skins did last year and got a lot of fortune to make the playoffs including our last game against.
3. Surround Garrett with the right coordinators and hopefully have a healthier roster and he will be fine. Too many coaching voices going in too many different directions.
4. Romo is a ? mark so I'm hoping that he makes a full and speedy recovery
5. The defense hopefully will be addressed in the draft a lot.
6. There's nothing we can do about it.

There us s chance that Romo's back may change that. Back injury or not, Romo shouldn't see 40 in this league. His arm is already showing his age.

If anything, the Commanders and Giants won't be this terrible again next year. This was the year to take advantage of a really lousy division. It won't always be this easy.

They likely won't be that terrible, but will they be that good?

You never really know how a team is going to be one year to the next. Teams that are "trending" down surprise. Those that are trending up disappoint. We had a number of things that caused to go 8-8 again. Some we can remedy fairly easily if we draft well and don't have 100 injuries again next year. A better DC would help. Some things we won't remedy, unfortunately. We have a tough schedule on paper, but again, teams can change a lot from one year to the next. FA, attrition, complacency, injuries, can all have a huge impact. It's hard to see us doing any better than 8-8 again. In fact, we may not even reach tthat. But right now, it's too early to call.

8-8 and 3 losses by 1 point and then a 2 pointer tonight with the worst defense in the league give me optimism. Imagine if we only had a middle of the road defense.

^^^^this

There is an exit strategy for Romo as follows:

Goes on I.R. for the 2014 season and gets cut in June 2015. This spreads the $55m over 4 years - 2013-2016. Dead money, but manageable, especially with cap inflation.

That GB mess came back to bite them in the butt.

And GB still says thanks Jason!

Sorry if this had already been said, but the GB game was ultimately irrelevent. Only if combined with another game would it have been meaningful.

so, I have a New Year's resolution that I just implemented for myself...anyone that comes in to this forum and states that they are leaving to go to a new franchise, I immediately put on my "ignore" list; don't let the door hitcha where the good Lord splitcha....leave and leave right away...I don't care what the reasons, if you aren't with this team, you are against them...get out

Example: T-RO (extremely poor excuse for a fan)

No unless they get lucky and find a young superstar in the draft that can stay healthy. Plus new coaching obviously.

This year was out best chance though and we blew it.

Actually this year was no better of a chance than the last 2 years. 9-7 would have won the division each time (assuming a win in week 17, turning a previous week loss to a win still wouldn't have mattered). And all losses except Detroit (who had a Garrettesque collapse were to teams who are in the playoffs or playing for their division title in wk 17 (Chi). I think with a good draft and being healthy they can definitely be better, but if they are going to do anything special, Romo and Dez are going to have to step up and will the team there despite Garrett.
