Are we fooling ourselves hitching our wagon to Tony Romo?

1. He isn'y "my Q". Sorry it sounded like you were defending the guy for whatever reason.

2. Head to head is an idiotic measuring stick for individual players. Generally I would agree, but you were the one to point out how Q's numbers stacked up "so nicely" when compared to Carr's.

3. The Dallas Cowboys of Quincy's era were just as untalented as the Texans. I'm sorry I thought that one of the Cowboy teams that Q played on went to the playoffs (courtesy of a great defense and a powder puff schedule). At our worst, we had more talent than the lowly Texans which isn't saying much for the Texans, now is it? LOL.

That Texan team beat us in their very 1st game.

See if you can wrap your head around this -

Comparing Quincy's numbers to Carr's is an evaluation of individual players.

Head to head records are an evaluation of teams.

Can you process that?

3. The Dallas Cowboys of Quincy's era were just as untalented as the Texans. That was a miracle year. Nearly that entire team doesn't even have jobs in the NFL anymore. The team made the playoffs on defense, anyways, which doesn't really help evaluate Carr vs. Quincy (see above)

Bottomline -Carr has been a failure as a QB. Much more so than Quincy, because of their draft positions. If we can bring him on as a veteran backup at no expense besides his contract, it makes a little sense, and has a little promise. Any other situation, we're just bringing in a slightly better version of Quincy. Seeing how Quincy was our "worst QB of all-time", I wouldn't think you'd want that.

Agreed. I believe if we signed Carr, he would give TR a run for his money. Your thoughts?
I don't think Carr "would" give Romo a run for his money. Could he? Sure. But I wouldn't hang my hat on it. This is a guy who despite a big contract is going to be pushed aside to make room for Jake Plummer. I think he can be a solid backup at this point. Probably not much more than that. Gary Kubiak is a talented offensive mind who knows QBs. I doubt he'd give up on Carr with no red flags. I think barring a miracle his days as a starter are probably over.

Well stated.

I think I'll take the Missouri-approach to Romo, and give it another year at least before I make him all-world.

J. Jones was being compared to Tony D, Emmitt etc this time a couple of years ago. Now....??... ughhh, not so much.

I do believe Romo has a better upside than most however. If nothing else, the law of averages says sooner or later we're gonna hit on 1 of these guys!

Understandable but from Jerry stand point he has to do something contract wise and waiting until the season is over and Romo becomes a UFA could be a big mistake.

There's no way he is all world. Then again I don't think anyone we can currently put our hands on is all world either.

What he is so far is a solid QB who has the complete support of his team. Maybe it's just me, but I'll take that. We haven't had that here in a long time.

In my 37 years of watching football I have never seen the QB who always makes good decisions.

Not in High School.

Not in the CFL.

Not in NFLE.

Not in the various levels of the NCAA.

Not in the Arena League.

Not in the USFL.

Not in the WFL.

Not in the XFL.

Not in the NFL.

I confess, I have just never seen that guy. When you do would you help me out and let me know who he is?

Emmitt Smith - every pass he ever threw was completed for a TD. Never through an incomplete, int, or less than a TD.

Who here thinks that we could possibly be kidding ourselves by hitching our wagon to one undrafted T Romo as our franchise QB for years to come? Don't get me wrong fellas, I was pleasantly surprised in what I saw in TR last season (although he seemed to fade a bit down the stretch). Have we seen the high tide of TR's career already? Just wondering if this is a chancy proposition and if we would be better served moving up in the draft and picking more of a sure thing. These Cinderalla stories don't happen too often. Will TR really be the exception to the rule? I guess it boils down to: is he really something special or just fool's gold.
Let's get some objective, thoughtful opinions going on this very important topic, before we sign this guy to a huge long term extension.
Looking forward to hearing from all.

He's our guy in 2007, but we haven't "hitched" ourselves to him till we sign him to a long-term deal. Hopefully that won't happen anytime soon. You don't give megabucks to someone who's merely "promising." I want to see a lot more.

Draft a qb early? No.

Through? :D

If you look real hard at line 1 of my post you'll see a letter "Q" that had nothing to do with a former player. Nowhere on Emmitt's profile will you find a similar "Q."

Fixed - forgive me, it's still kinda early on the west coast and I'm sick.

And hey - Smith became the QB on that one pass.:D

That's my point though. I'll wait until sometime around week 10 of next year, and we're sitting at 7-3, 6-4 etc, with Romo a big reason for that, before I have that, "heyyy, we might have a little sump'n sump'n here" feeling.

Nyquil cures all.

WG is sick too and was out in that neck of the woods this weekend. Coincidence? Hmm.

Any more visits with John Wayne's son and have you invited him to join the forum yet?

Did he also become MC Hammer because of one dance?

Are you saying you'll get horny for him at that point?

:omg:

Run Tony!

:a-team:

I get what you're saying, and I agree. I am in his corner because his team is. Doesn't mean anything at this point, but it could if he performs as hoped.

Yea, that skills competition win and a buck twenty five will get you a hot cup of jack squat come the 2nd week of 9/07.

It's done every year in the draft. First round QBs get mega bucks before they even sniff the field.

The fact that Romo has been in the league for four years and showed he could play with the big boys means he will be rewarded.
