Are we fooling ourselves hitching our wagon to Tony Romo?

The whispers in the Houston media center on the fact that he is more focused on being a family man than being an elite or solid NFL QB.

Romo 2006 8.62

These are some pretty encouraging numbers, to say the least.

Especially when you take into account that the defenses were much better on those teams in the seasons that rank ahead of Romo. And it's not like he has a long grocery list of things to work on either. He mainly has to avoid the fumbles.

I think we have the makings of a more than good enough defense to win championships with Romo. We have to keep building the OL, and get (or develop) a quality young WR.

No fooling. ;)

Funny stuff, the sad thing was that I was a QC backer over Hutch in the days. Ah, the choices between 2 evils.

Just as sad was, .. I saw potential in Hutch.

LOL. Yes, isn't it a terrible thing that there were whispers by the Houston media that Carr is a "family man". Maybe if had a lifestyle more like the Q's he would have been a greater success in Houston. LOL. What a crock.

Problem was that QC was watching the wrong film, or he coulda been a HOF'er...

Okay, so Mo is covering the deep 1/3 of the field. Larry is man to man on the TE and Curly is blitzing up the middle. Doink !
How on earth did this thread steer over to a discussion on the dreadful Quincy Carter? Thank goodness those dark days are long gone. Let's all wish the departed Q the best of luck in AFL2. LOL. Guys, let's get back on topic here.

Agreed. I believe if we signed Carr, he would give TR a run for his money. Your thoughts?

Where did I dismiss film watching? I just was making the point that it did the horrific Q no good. He was still lousy after hours of studying film.
Re-read my comments. Carr was pounded relentlessly with the Texans and had virtually no supporting cast. He is no fool, with protection and talent around him I have no doubt he would be motivated to excel which means he would do his part in studying film.
Oh, and just how reliable are your sources who said Carr is not motivated? Sounds like nothing more than a local sportswriter who is trying to get some traction on a story to me.
You don't like Carr...so be it. I see great potential in him.

Man, I like Carr just fine. He is hard not to like. He is a good guy, but I don't want him as the QB of my team.

As far as how reliable the sources are with regard to David Carr's dedication to being an elite NFL QB, I have personally heard him say during interviews that he doesn't put in lots of time at the facilities or watching film. He prefers to spend the time with his wife and children. Good for him, he is a great American. He is not worth our time as a QB.

The homer Houston media (believe me it is the least critical media group in the country) finally started to take the gloves off with him and there have been plenty of veiled quotes from his teammates about him. Whatever.

We agree to disagree.

It's funny that Quincy Carter in 2003 threw more TDs than Carr ever has, more yards than Carr has thrown for in every year except for one, and posted a QB rating only 4 points lower than Carr's average. Last year Carr was upside down on his TD-TO ratio by 11-19.

But at least Carr completed 80 5 yard curls to Johnson. Savior numbers, those.

Fair enough. Let's see if he actually gets signed by Jerry. If so, we can compare notes at the end of next season. I feel good about my position and am excited with the prospects of him being signed by us.

We need an experienced backup and safety net in case Romo regresses.

I don't think giving up a first day choice for a player like Carr is the answer. I would certainly sign him off the street however.

What are your Q's numbers without the 2 yard dinks to Richie Anderson? LOL. Oh and head to head I believe Carr is 1-0 against Q.

The fact that Carr's rating was higher than Q's with the teams he has had to play on speaks volumes.

Whatever guy. No reason for insults around here. For the record, the FS connection has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion.

1.) He isn'y "my Q"
2.) Head to head is an idiotic measuring stick for individual players.
3.) The Dallas Cowboys of Quincy's tenure were just as untalented as the Texans.

Carr could be a fine backup. It would be fine to bring him in as such. If he flourishes, more power to him. Carr hasn't shown anything that demonstrates he is an NFL starter. So far, he's shown that he is marginally better than Quincy Carter - our alleged "worst Qb of all time".

Frankly Carr lacks in terms of mechanics and is not much of a team leader. Living in Houston I of course get to see all of their games and I have never seen Carr with the ability to rally the troops he look like just a member of the team who plays QB but does not show much in terms of being a leader. Romo may be an undrafted QB but he shows certain coolness and I think he does posses the leadership required for the job. My hope is Dallas continue with Romo as the starting QB and stop the musical QB routine we have been in since Troy Aikman retired.

1. He isn'y "my Q". Sorry it sounded like you were defending the guy for whatever reason.

2. Head to head is an idiotic measuring stick for individual players. Generally I would agree, but you were the one to point out how Q's numbers stacked up "so nicely" when compared to Carr's.

3. The Dallas Cowboys of Quincy's era were just as untalented as the Texans. I'm sorry I thought that one of the Cowboy teams that Q played on went to the playoffs (courtesy of a great defense and a powder puff schedule). At our worst, we had more talent than the lowly Texans which isn't saying much for the Texans, now is it? LOL.
