briles is friends with jerry.

jerry is a copycat. if the eagles win the division again with CHIP KELLY, he will try to copy them by going after briles.

Yea, I know their friendship, but I don't thinks it's strong enough to control Briles. Jerry Need To Be Able to control his friends. Briles doesn't strike me as one to play along with a Jerry first agenda.

As much as I like the idea, he doesn't fit the bill for what Jerry needs. These guys have there own voice and agenda, something Jerry can't live with. He's gonna hire a friend or someone desperate to have a job or be on the Dallas big stage. Lane Kiffin anyone?

See, that's where I don't agree with the Jerry criticism. Jerry is a lunatic in most ways and a sleazeball in his private life to be sure. And I agree that he won't hire a huge name proven NFL coach like a Harbaugh because he doesn't want the coach getting all the credit. But giving a guy his first NFL head coaching job? I think that would be perfect because he would get credit.

I also think Briles wouldn't demand complete control of the personnel department like a Harbaugh, and he isn't a huge disciplinarian type. Both of those work in his favor with Jerry.

Editing to what ninja said... I wouldn't totally discount Gundy with all of Jerry's Oklahoma ties. But I listen to an OKC station with his old coach Pat Jones, and they talk Cowboys pretty often -- and I think he might well advise Gundy against it. Jones doesn't trash Jerry, but he knows how Jerry is. And Jones worked for Al Davis at the Raiders, so he knows first hand how that environment can be.

guys briles and jerry are friends. briles is from the area and knows about the tradition of this franchise. don't sleep on briles. harbaugh would never come here. sumlin is still green imo.

Freinds of Jerry worry me. Switzer and Lacewelll come to mind.

Because he's a man! He's forty!

I don't know about you, but after 4 years of the boring "stacking" and "it's a process" and "have to look at the film" and "all three phases of the game," week after week, I'll take Gundy. We got a lot of OK ST players on the team so he knows how to get them NFL ready. I'm ready for some passion and creativity.

while I agree that it would be a good hire, I think where we disagree is that I don't think Briles is desperate or desperate enough to want his first nfl gig. He's sitting on something pretty at Baylor and I don't think he's willing to relinquish what he has at Baylor to play nice with Jerry's agenda. In other words, I don't think the allure of the Cowboys is enough to play puppet for jerry when he can get all.of the credit for taking Baylor to $18M payday with a successful season.

You don't think we could replicate Jimmy with him? The man knows how to evaluate offensive talent. Give him a big time d-coordinator and let the man bring us back the glory.

I don't disapprove of Briles (or Sumlin), but we have had offnese for a few year's now. It has been the defense that we couldn't get right. If we could just get a big time d-coordinator, then would should have already done that (which we kind of have with Marinelli).

But, yes, to answer your question... I would like Briles here.

The next coach will either be Jim Harbaugh or Kevin Sumlin IMO.

I would not be a fan of Harbaugh, but I would love me some Kevin Sumlin. Brilliant offensive mind, who also knows (and places a priority) on the defensive side of things.

Briles, not so much...

That's where Harbaugh and Jerry wouldn't mesh, but both Briles and Sumlin won't demand the final say in personnel moves. It's not desperation, it's called "getting a foot in the (NFL) door". I think either one of them would be just fine working for Jerry.

First, I don't think Garrett is going anywhere. But if you want to go Chip Kelly style , lets get Gus Malzahn from AU. He is a genius.

I like the optimism, but these guys (sumlin/briles) don't need the nfl to validate their coaching resume. And they might not need their money either, so why would they give up their true power (all player decisions) to work for a dictator? They could wait for any other nfl gig that's desperate for an up start that will give them the exact same true power and none of the headache.

Give me one good reason that jerry could convince them to coach the Cowboys and not wait for the same nfl opportunity with more control? That reason has to be far more than, "it's the nfl and cowboys!" If you ask me. Especially when considering they're already in financially plush situations.

Back in Jimmy's time- Jerry was more trusting, less intrusive and micro-managing.
That led to our Boys success.

Jerry is a coach's nemesis nowadays.

He is the Great Magnet that drags everything around him down to his level.
No matter the coach.

Nice imagery.
