Art Briles

Art Briles -- yet another potential head coaching victim on an endless list of poor souls cursed to be ruined by an owner/GM hellbent on micro-managing his team into oblivion. Sure, why not -- it seems likely that's our destiny.

I think that's overdoing it a lot. Jerry's a problem, but that doesn't mean 8-8 is the best we can ever hope to do.

Again, it's funny that you never heard with Gailey or Campo or Phillips that Jerry made it absolutely impossible to have a good team. Most people just claimed that they stunk. Yet with Garrett it's that he's totally handcuffed by Jerry and no one could win here.

Maybe the answer is the simple one. Maybe Garrett just isn't very good.

At that point in the Campo years, I don't think everyone realized exactly how difficult Jerry was making things. The results of the early 2000's were part of that evidence.

I do however, get your point.

For myself, I give Garrett a lot of leeway because I think the rest of the franchise (draft, free agency, cap maneuvering) is being run the best it has since Jimmy was still here. You can say that maybe Jerry and Stephen have learned what they're doing with talent acquisition, but I'm afraid that if Garrett left, the smart drafting and the franchise actually having a plan with talent, would just go away.

To me, there is no doubt that Jason is the reason for the sudden good drafting, not spending big in free agency, etc.

wait, so with all of the "training" that Jones is providing to Red, you think there is going to be a change? It's nice to talk about, but Jones is more about proving that his "investment" in Garrett is going to pay off

If Garrett is back after 4 straight years of no playoffs, then I'm done with this franchise.

I have a bone to pick here...and you already understand that it's not number 4:

The reference was to a relationship being compared to another poster's reference...

I have a big problem with site spell check when concept is the associated difference.

Since this and other postings are concentrated, not upon subject, but a person's value in a misspelling, with intenion for humor or NOT...

Here you go, beat your brains out:

JAXUN GARNETT

Not a big deal. That era was my favorite as far as college ball is concerned. I try to have fun on the boards, others can't.

That team from Houston, and the El Paso team, Texas Western, were my favorites in college basketball. I'm a little older. Texas Western, now UTEP, started the role of racial participation in basketball...and Phi Slamma Jamma was a culmination of process.

Attending Texas A&I, we had the first black player in the Lone Star Conference under Gil Steinke. Sid Blanks was the first drafted player in the very first draft for the then Houston Oilers...understood.

Sorry, I grew up in the sixties, really...so my first answer to a potentially political type question would be - No, Sir, I'm from planet earth.

I grew up in Kingsville, (the Corpus Christi area). I spent 12 years in Kentucky stationed at Fort Knox, Ky...so, my interests in basketball was strengthened there and watching Louisville and UK going at it.

I'm a Texas A&I alumnus...and played some football there as well.

Thanks for the question...

What do you think about him as our next coach? The man is Texas and has said the only job he'd leave Baylor for is the Dallas Cowboys. Thoughts?

Art Briles is not going to be the next coach. Garrett will be our coach for a pretty long time. There is nothing wrong with Jason Garrett

Doesn't it seem strange to you how coaches who have had success with other teams like Parcells, for instance, come here and fail? Ryan was the same story. The other three you named didn't have the hootspa to stand up to Jerry and they failed, otherwise, who knows what might have been. Garret is a better coach than those three, yet also allows Jerry to compromise his authority with his interference, imho. I believe Jerry is the main problem here.

So is there really no gold at Ft Knox?

Time to fess up...

The golden triangle is the Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange area of southeast Texas.

I was in Port A 2 weeks ago fishing with some buddies. Great part of Texas. Wouldn't it be great to have a native Texan leading the Cowboys again?

It was nice with Tom Landry(Mission) and Jimmy Johnson(Port Arthur) , but it didn't work out that well with Wade Phillips(Orange).

Wade had more success here than the 3 north easterners combined. (campo, parcells, garrett).

Wade also took over a better team and situation than any of those other guys. I'll throw out Campo because he was bad no matter the situation.

Facts are Cowboys win playoff games when a Texan is at the helm.

I'm really concerned this franchise is one dynamic QB to the Houston Texans from losing a grip on this state. Briles will help stop that momentum.
