As of right now in the NFL is Tony Romo a Top Five qb?

I always put guys in tiers.

Manning and Brady are on a tier all of their own. They are all-timers already.

Depending on where you draw the line, I think Romo is on the second or third tier. He's easily one of the 10 best QBs, and he's probably right in there with the top 5-6.

My own personal ranking goes like this:
1. Manning, Brady.
2. Brees, Roethlisberger, Favre, Romo, Rivers
3. Rogers, Warner, Manning

Nope. Not even top 10.

You just lost any kind of credibility you had.

I left bree's off because he hasn't won anything yet. I also think his game is not as good as Romo's .

Big ben to me with 2 superbowls and his ability to be clutch game after game gets him in the top five.

River's has lead his team to two Afc champion title games, and his numbers last year were unreal. I believe he was the league's highest rated passer.

Favre and warner dont make it at this point because of there age, I question if they will be able to hold up all season. remember favre broke down last year.. And rogers is out for taking too many sacks, thats a big hole in his game.

Thats funny... Every single major stat category has Romo somewhere in the top 10, yet he's not on your list. Oh nm... Skids fan.

Let me guess.. Jason Campbell is better than Romo too, right?

No. He's not. I'm not a homer. Anyone that has sense knows Campbell's not.

Every single stat category or not, he's won the same number of playoff games as Campbell.

WHAT?!?!?!?! And Romo's won what? The Saints are UNBEATEN!

And Rodgers can't help his o-line has been awful. When he's had time, he's made plays.

The thing is, do you think he can go three or four games in a row, against the NFL's best, without an implosion? I made a bet with my friend seven or eight years ago that McNabb would never win a SB. In that case, I knew that McNabb couldn't go 3 or 4 games in a row without his accuracy issues surfacing. With Romo it's more about the giveaways, but same idea.

A fair assessment if you only consider previous seasons. Tony's turnovers are way down and he is playing some great ball this year. He will only continue to mature and improve going forward. My bigger worry is play calling. Oh yea. To placate the excuse crowd I must add the refs are also out to get us.;)

We always get a ton of new posters Commander week. I will chat with them if they come across as reasonable. Sometimes they are even realistic about their own team. Not often, but sometimes.

Tony's placement on any lists gives Dallas extra credit toward making the play-offs, right?

If not, then who cares?

I love these threads, and I don't care if they appear every three weeks.

1. Manning
2. Brees
3. Rivers
4. Brady (based on the last three games, he'd be #2, but I'm still not convinced he's the Brady of old)
5. Rodgers
6. Ben
7. Favre (the thowing injury is coming folks just be patient)
8. Romo
9. Schaub
10. Warner

I think this is a fair list, although I'd drop Rodgers considerably. He's not even above .500 yet as a starter in this league, is he?

Romo has the "stats" of a top five quarterback, but until he has some consistent playoff success he simply isn't in the class of some of the league's elite. Granted, my argument against Brees has always been that he only has one playoff victory and few playoff appearances, but I do think he has an undeniably greater command of the QB position than Romo.

Warner has to be one of the hardest QBs in league history to rank, no?

It's weird how his career has worked out, because when he first burst onto the scene people wondered if he was a fluke. Then as he appeared to cement himself as a great, he got hurt and disappeared as a backup. He suddenly returns to the scene, has a terrific season and leads the Cardinals to the Super Bowl.

Yet here he is again this season, intermixing great games with horrific.

Pretty fair list, though. I also look at the position in tiers, and my only difference is I'd probably put Brees, Roethlisberger and Favre -- maybe even Warner -- on a second tier, with the Romos, Rivers and Rodgers on the third tier.

Not sure where I place Eli Manning. I've always believed he was a guy who kinda lucked into a ring and that, eventually, that luster would wear off and he'd fall into the middle-of-the-pack ranks. Some of that luster still shines bright since his win came less than two years ago, but I dunno. At times he looks like a Manning; at other times he looks like a guy who lucked into a Super Bowl win.

Career achievement wise, he trumps Romo. Laps him, even. But I'm not sure that in 2009 and beyond he's better.

Manning(wayne isnt as good as moss and he has no one welkers caliber yet and still undefeated..if brady still had stallworth he'd be number one for me)
Brady
Brees
Romo(not trying to be a homer but what he's done during the time he's had is sick dont think we have seen the best of him. Even when he has a bad game we know what he can do and does more often than not. much rather have him than maybe a few on this list. Esp since the years after aikman have sucked until now.And going through that )
Rothlisberger(has superbowl wins and now is airing it out with the best of them)
Rivers(Past few years has been great , now has jackson emerging )
Favre(still has great velocity on his throws and still favre )
Mcnabb(looks awesome when he's healthy and now has a legit set of wr's)
after that too many ups and downs and people whose seasons arent over yet.. Schaub and Ryan would be most likely to follow.

edit.. eli would too.. Conclusion: Over half the teams in the nfl have qbs who are very capable of winning a superbowl.

Tony is only in the top 5 quarterbacks on Cowboy messageboards. That should answer the question.

There, and in terms of all time career passer rating for the NFL, but, yeah. Just those two places.

P. Manning and Brady are head and shoulders above the rest.

Romo, Breezy Rivers, Favre, Ben, perhaps Palmer and a few more flavors of the week are in there.

But it does not really matter, none of them are in the same league as Manning and Brady, well they are...but you know...

Manning and Brady are NO WAY head and shoulders above Brees.....

When he flops in the playoffs again we will see what is said. He is the most overrated qb in the league. Moreso than Romo

Just like Dilfer's better than Jim Kelly - apparently you're applying the same logic. Dude go back to your loser board.
Anyone who thinks Eli's is better than Romo has no clue about QBing or football in general.

He's definitely top 10. Top 5 is tough to justify since there are 5 or 6 other guys that are playing very well this year, but if you look at the top 5 passers of the past few years , you could certainly make an argument for Romo being top 5.
