It seems as if the Networks are bullying the Big 12 into expanding to 12 at most.
That truly sucks and makes little sense.

If the league is truly at risk of disbanding why in the heck would you not milk the tv contract for all it is worth?

And even if you do hack off the networks a deal now they hate may be a bargain for them in 5 years, much less 8 or 9.

I repeat, dysfunctional Big 12, you MUST expand to 14 and control enough content to have leverage.
UT or OU would be certifiably insane to leave for the SEC, and perhaps even more so to drag their kids to the Big 10+4 or Pac whatever.
They need to suck it up and make this a viable conference while continuing to out-recruit the lighterweights here.

BYU: imho a must add. work with them on LGBTQ or however you type that issues. BYU brings a national following and competitive sports organization that
does nothing to hurt the other teams in recruiting.

HOU: Hard to ignore current success and while coaches obviously do not want them in, the UT backing should be enough. Major metro area that is only growing.

CINCY: Should have added LOU and CINCY to go with TCU and WVA... was stupid not to. They've admitted that now and CINCY should get make up invite.

4th: Tough call imho. Can go with choice of south florida schools, or a strong academic institution like Tulane or Rice to help balance that scale and remind everyone this isn't the SEC. But Colorado State might make the most sense. They could easily surpass Colorado as the best team in Colorado. The new laws in Colorado mean that state is going to grow rapidly and reap crazy tax income. Not a bad deal to get a team to pair with BYU for travel.

the Big 12 blows, wouldn't mind the Horns being in the Big 10 if for no other reason than I miss the automatic win vs Nebraska every year.

No Thanks!! I loved when Nebraska left the Big 12 because my mom and her whole side of the fam is from there, so now I can somewhat root for the Huskers again.....then while I was livin in West Virginia and somewhat rootin for the Mountaineers, because thats where my wife is from, they turn around and join the Big 12.....I just cant win!! What gets me is with Nebraska and WV fans both, they have to smack talk the whole state of TX, not just the Longhorns, as if the states of Nebraska and West Virginia have anything to be proud of......corn and coal, big whoop!

Id rather the Horns join the SEC and start playin the Aggies and Razorbacks again......and WVU needs to go to the ACC to be playin Pitt, Louisville, VT, Miami etc. again......

Texas donor and leadership want them aligned with "peer" schools. That would be large national research universities with great sports and academics.

Just use something like the US News National University rankings cross referenced with big sports programs and also the all-sports trophy rankings.

They see no school in the Big 12 other than them as fitting that description. Some have good sports but are barely top 100 in academics. Others a little of each but not national research.

I have zero bias in this issue, but I do agree with that assessment.
Not sure how important it is, but if thats what they want, then the better matches may be the Big 10 or Pac 12
Schools like Michigan, Mich State, UCLA, USC, Cal, Ohio State, Wisc, etc, etc fit the bill.

I guess maybe Florida and Georgia might in the SEC though...maybe AM too.

No, you don't.
Just ask Nebraska fans.

Playing Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers.
The Big 10 has some real crap teams in real crap climates.

UT would be bored to death by those games be they home or away.
And recruiting would become 10x harder.

SEC would be great for recruiting except of course UT regents will never lower itself to the academic standards of that league so good luck.

Let me repeat.. I think it it IMPERATIVE that the Big 12 goes to 14 schools.
Come up with a new name, Big 14 is fine but could just drop Big altogether since it came from the Big 8 and was mostly a nod to OU/Nebraska.

I like that 3-some of HOU/Cincy/BYU. Add Nebraska and it is perfect IMHO.
two 7 team divisions.

north: NEB, IOST, KAN, KST, WVA, CIN, BYU
south: UT, Tech, BAY, HOU, TCU, OU, OKST

pretty friggin good IMHO.
That conf has plenty of overall power.
Strong academically by any football standard and quality teams with good markets and or strong followings.

Big 12 leadership reminds me of the old Big East leadership minus the basketball first mentality. Again they made themselves look dysfunctional. Smh

As a Texas fan I'd be embarrassed to be a member of the Big 12 if I wasn't so embarrassed to be a Texas fan.

I've never felt worse about the conference than I do right now.
Lots of crappy football, the smallest P5 conference and being in charge that are making short-sighted decisions.

how about that **** show with OU/Tech? There was no reason for those teams to even wear pads, it was 7 on 7 crap. Absolutely embarrassing. I believe Tech was 20 for 25 on 3rd down. I mean come on.

Why does Tech bother playing defense. They should onside kick every time, and go for it on fourth down every time.

I am hoping they fire Kliff and go get Art Briles.
Just make sure to pass out rape whistles at student orientation.

Yesterday, local sports radio talk show host Craig Miller said that he was on a plane last week that the Baylor basketball team was travelling on, and that the players were openly and loudly making disgusting comments about what they were going to do to their women when they got back to Waco.

He even thought about writing the school president about it because it was really uncomfortable, and there were children around.

What is that "Baptist" school recruiting down there?
