Why? So we could have gone another year with Vinny Interceptaverde? No thanks.MichaelWinicki said:You don't know how much I wish they had given Drew Bledsoe another year.

I wonder if that would mean we'd have a real QB now, or if we'd have drafted one, or if we'd be playing our NON-QB's, or if we'd be watching Vinnie again...I'm not a big Bledsoe fan, but those are some pretty frightening scenerios.MichaelWinicki said:You don't know how much I wish they had given Drew Bledsoe another year.
Sarge, how would you feel if Leftwich was our QB and we were playing with Henry and another FA at CB, or perhaps had used that Rogers 2nd rounder on a CB?Sarge said:I think BP knows we only go as far as Julius and the OL will carry us. Secondly, he also knows that if Bledsoe goes down, it's over.
Heck, I'd be willing to bet that if Bledsoe retired after this year, so would BP.
He just refuses to go with youth at QB and ultimately, that is not good for this team. Long after BP is gone, we will still be searching (presumably) for our QB.
That continues to bother me.
It is still too early to give up on Henson. I still expect him to be ready by the time the Tuna leaves.BlueWave said:At least he's been to the SuperBowl and he has won two championships, all be it AFC.
The plan was for Bledsoe to be here two to three years, and then for Henson to be ready from there. That was the plan. You cannot blame the organization for the fact that Henson is not excelling to the point that they had planned on him being at. If you look at it on paper, it was a pretty good plan and who can blame the organiztion for laying it out that way. Parcells gets Bledsoe for his run. Then Payton was supposed to take over at the same time that Henson was ready to take over. Shouldn't have missed a beat. At this point, it appears that Henson isn't holding up his end of the deal, yet. Maybe he will. But you certainly cannot blame the team for setting it up that way.

I find it nonsensical for you to assume Blesdoe can't take us to the Super Bowl when he has actually already been to a Super Bowl but you do assume a guy who can't complete 50% of his NFL passes can in time.
I understand your reservations with Bledsoe up to a point but anyone arguing we have better options on this roster are witch doctoring at best.
Super Bowl QBs nowadays are seldom Super. Brady has been extremely good but the guy has an average arm at best. He is middling in every physical category. No one saw him as a franchise guy even after 1 Super Bowl win. Recent Super Bowls are plenty of evidence you need a good team to go to the Super Bowl not just a good QB. See Peyton Mannings track record as an example.
2 years ago we won 10 games and made the playoffs, "in spite of" Carter at QB. If we learned anything I think it is that we fell asleep at the wheel after that and didn't upgrade the other 21 starting positions. VT was probably about as good as Carter yet we lost 4 more games and were no where near as competitive.
Its easy to talk Super Bowl or bust but you have to walk before you can run.
In 2 years perhaps Dallas grabs a young guy who has developed such as David Garrard. Someone who has taken snaps and proven they can play a bit. Carolina tried to draft their QB a couple of times then signed Delhomme as an afterthought and went to the SB. The answer is simple. If you have a hole, fill it. Draft guys and develop them but where they fail move on and sign guys to fill holes. We drafted Jacob Rogers in round 2 and Rob P in round 6. Should we continue to hang onto Rogers because he has more potential or go with the guy who is actually better right now and seems to know what this game is all about?
With Philly signing Kearse and TO it seems even they have learned some free agent dough will have to be expended.
The beautiful thing about having BP as coach is that he comes with 40+ years football experience and is consistent in his philosophy. He plays younger guys were they are close to as good as veterans but plays the better player for the season at hand not 3 years from now. 3 years from now isn't promised to any of us and writing off the right now just turns the team into losers.

Now, because I am growing superstitious in my old age....
please excuse me while I go give blood at the local drive. AGAIN.
I've convinced myself that's the only way to keep Terry healthy this year.

I guess you could argue all the money they gave him was to name him their immediate starter and franchise guy except well none of that happened initially.jimmy40 said:Carolina signed Delhomme as an afterthought?
Saying they signed him as an afterthought doesn't change the fact that we screwed up not signing him even if it makes you feel better. They outbid us, that's not an afterthought. He should be playing in Dallas.jterrell said:I guess you could argue all the money they gave him was to name him their immediate starter and franchise guy except well none of that happened initially.
The present is quite time consuming enough why dwell on water under the bridge?jimmy40 said:Saying they signed him as an afterthought doesn't change the fact that we screwed up not signing him even if it makes you feel better.
