Here's the thing -- everybody drafted in the 1st two rounds or so have great college highlights. He looks good in the videos but I'm not sure it tells us a lots about the chances of future success (or failure)

exactly, Boise St. doesn't exactly play the "big boys" but of course that doesn't mean he can't be successful, it can skew his perception as dominant or disruptive a bit though

all we can do is wait and see (or hope is probably the more operative word)

NFL.com is pretty high on him.

Bottom Line

A loose, explosive, long-limbed athlete, Lawrence consistently pressurizes the edge and harasses quarterbacks. His pass-rushing ability rates among the best in this year's class, and he holds mass appeal. Lacks ideal stoutness at the point of attack, but could thrive as a 4-3 right end or 3-4 rush linebacker, and should contribute readily on passing downs.

Most of the analysis I read on him looked a lot better than this.

Imagine that? But you have those who go out of their way to find the most negative scouting report because he is not their pet cat; cut and paste it here. So he must be a complete bust and we might as well just stop after this pick b/c we gave up SOOOOOOO much to get him.

I didn't post the McGinn comments just because I have an agenda. I posted his scout comments for the 1st round pick and those were overwhelming positive.

I take them for what they are -- the view of NFL scouts. NFL scouts thought highly of Ryan Leaf and Tony Mandarich as well. They aren't infallible.

Ya, I would like to have a 3rd round pick but I am also excited about having this guy on our team. Seems like if he stayed another year he would be a sure fire first round pick. He has room to fill out, and they will get him stronger in no time. I like it when I read that he is "a great athlete"; but he also has production to go with it.

Hope he makes the Pro Bowl or not having that 3rd is going to hurt.

Broaddus said and I agree on some level, that if you really like a guy, you go and get him. They certainly did this. Broaddus loves this guy and is very excited the Boys drafted him.

If Marinelli liked him enough to spend two picks on him, I'm sure he'll be a great player. I trust Marinelli. However, we need a lot more than just one player on defense. Not sure if we'll get starting-caliber players with a 4th, 5th and six 7ths.

Well..

Not unlike Ware was..

he's a project in some ways.

Ware had to convert from being a DE coming out of college and he wasn't a lock he would become great.

I think Marinelli had to have a huge part of this pick.

So if you don't like the pick..

..you don't believe in Marinelli.

Think about it.

Think they target that big boy from Princeton in the 4th
