Agreed. The likelihood is the viable "starting" TE options would've been wiped out 25+ picks before the Cowboys had another pick had they passed at 58. So I believe this pick shows us what they think about the need at TE vs. OG.
Exactly.......they had Torrence right in their lap. So it was TE vs OG .......they chose TE perhaps for more impact on the offense IMO.

2 problems

1. We are not talking Schoon vs Schultz. We are talking Schoon vs all the other players available at 58 like Torrance

2. If the best you can say about your rd 2 pick is “ not the worst pick ever” that tells hs we made a mistake
Torrence would have been the worst pick ever. He in no way was a scheme fit for the zone scheme we have been running and just hired a new OL coach to continue running. I doubt he was ever a consideration. A 340 pound anvil would be a better option!

He wouldn't have been my choice at pick 58 (I mean, stud OG was sitting right there and taken by the Bills the next pick, plus several other strong players) but I suspect he becomes a steady contributor.
That stud OG isn't the type of player they want, he isn't very athletic and has zero versatility. Torrence was looked at as a possible 1st round pick, but was selected nearly in the 3rd. Pure strength alone isn't enough to guarantee success in the todays NFL...He reminds me of Will Hernadez from UTEP that the Giants drafted 34th overall few years ago . Two years later he lost his job to Shane Lemieux who was drafted in the 5th round
I'm not saying Torrence doesn't have a chance to be good, he's just limited on what he brings to the table, and those limitations are why Dallas passed.

Will Herandez was a Cowboyszone favorite too.

I'd love to revisit all of these guys we want and see how they faired in the league. They rarely do btw.

If we just look back at last year, the same exact folks who hated last year’s draft hate this one. None will ever own up to it. When the pads come and the games are played, we’ll then see what this draft was.

They obviously didn't like Torrence and they were very high Schoonmaker who is for sure a top 90 player that wouldn't have been available later. They feel that he is a complete tight end and I feel that they are absolutely correct.

Well, my post wasn't a complaint. Just an opinion.
I'm front and center every year saying "Let's wait and see"

Last year...some examples
  • I liked our 1st pick....that turned out ok
  • Was so-so on our 2nd pick...and he might be better than I expected. I said wait and see but at the time would not have taken him
  • Did not like our 3rd pick...so far right on that one...even I said wait and see but skeptical
  • Was ok with our 4th pick....so far so good, at the time I would not have taken him there
  • Did not know much about 5th rd Bland, so wait and see.....turns out he was a great pick that I would not have taken given lack of knowledge (again, so wait and see was the right mindset)
  • I liked the risk-reward on Damone Clark, but really didnt know how it would turn out

Oh I know. I remember when everyone hated Fredericks and Tyler Smith. Even some hated the Micah pick. None will admit it. Well not many. I can't tell you how many "Let's draft Slater" came after Horn and Suratin went off the board.

As a Michigan fan I like Schoomaker. I think he is solid. However, I am not sure he is much better than Ferguson or Hendershot so why waste the pick. I would have picked the Oline man from Florida
Me too because I thought the G from UF would’ve been a plug and play starter on Day 1 while Schoon may struggle to get snaps in year 1. I def DONT hate the player but 58 seemed a round high and G was a need with a starter sitting right there. That’s the only reason I didn’t like it.

This is exactly it. I just don't understand it. We could have drafted drew sanders and darnell washington
Darnell Washington was flagged. That's why he fell in the draft. He has a foot issue. I would've been cool on Sanders though I personally didnt' want a linebacker high.

and he's not injured lol. dumb front office does dumb things. go figure
Washington battled foot and ankle injuries during his college career and the NFL Network reported knee concerns cropped up ahead of the draft.

I'm cool with taking a flyer on these guys but not in the 2nd. Hated when they did it on Jaylen.

Hold on so you you was cool with them making Jaylon? Yeah F all that I dont' want no injured *** dude I done seen enough of them. I wouldn't have taken a tight end at all honestly. Schoonmaker or Darnell I personally wouldn't have taken one. If I wanted a hurt *** Eric Ebron who can block I would've just traded down lol.
