Draft a guy in the first round, no way they should commit $20M-$30M for the #2 when Lamb is the #1.
Interesting that all the guys listed in the OP were first round picks except S. Diggs who was drafted in the 5th round.

If we are keeping Dak, it would have to be WRs with large catch radiuses since we know Dak's accuracy is hit or miss. I would lean towards Evans or Dhop if we could get either for a 3rd I would do it.
I went the other way, thinking Dak needs to see his WR seperated bf he would throw to him. Initially I thought of DHop too, but then Dez came back to my mind as a similar high point WR that Dak didn't mesh with.

Stephon Diggs, Brandin Cooks, Mike Evans, and DeAndre Hopkins are not cheap…and not that young either. Hopkins is 30; all others are 29. All currently on deals paying them between $20 and $30 mil/season.

Worth it? If so, which one? If we are paying Cedee Lamb soon, a move like this doesn’t seem like a good one to me.

Could have just kept a 28 year old $20 million Amari Cooper and all of your draft picks and been done with this nonsense.

These numbers he's mentioning are their cap hits if they remain on their current teams; they would all be lower for us if acquired by trade. Here are their base salaries. The only part I'm not certain about is whether or not the option or roster bonuses would hit our cap (I assume they would), so I'll list them just in case they do. Signing bonuses and restructure figures do not, though. Also included the dead money impact for their current teams to illustrate that a Diggs trade is not happening this offseason.

  • Brandin Cooks
    • 2023: $18M base, $352,932 roster bonus
    • 2024: $13M base, $3.5M roster bonus
    • Dead money: Texans clear $10 million in cap space by trading ($16M dead money)
  • Stefon Diggs
    • 2023: $7.91M base, $255K roster, $3.2M option
    • 2024: $18.5M base, $255K roster, $3.2M option
    • 2025: $18M base, $255K roster, $3.2M option
    • 2026: $19.092M base, $255K roster, $3.2M option
    • 2027: $14.495M base, $255K roster, $3.2M option
    • Dead money: Bills LOSE $17.285 million in cap space by trading ($37.5+M dead money)
      • Additional note: The Bills are currently sitting at $18 million OVER the cap
  • Mike Evans
    • 2023: $13M base, $1.5M roster bonus
    • Remaining years are all void years
    • Dead money: Bucs clear $2.32M in cap space by trading ($21.4ishM in dead money)
  • DeAndre Hopkins
    • 2023: $19.45M base, $2.25M option
    • 2024: $14.915M base, $2.25M option
    • Dead money: Cardinals clear $8.15M in cap space by trading ($22.6M in dead money)

draft a friggin wr early. Have a guy on the cheap for the next 4 years.
right, any fan who thinks after trading Coop for 5th and to avoid paying a WR2 2A top money that somehow, we should or expect the jones to give up ahigh draft pick and 20+,mil,

seriously,

its why fans would make terrible GMS.. Draft and tier 2 true FA wrs are out there, Gallup will improve next year, hopefully tolbert or anther come along.

I want Evans over Cooks but only if the price is greatly reduced. I'd offer a 3rd, thats it. Then I would sign him 2 a team friendly 3 year deal laced with incentives.

paying a ton for a wr and rb makes 0 sense. Its not the formula.
right, if we needed a WR1, sure.. we do NOT.. WR2 or 2A to help Gallup. that it run the dang ball be efficient throwing, better schemes, better offense will be paying Lamb very soon, just need supplemental players.

exactly. They decided they didnt wanna pay Amari the money bag ie 20 mil that year. so they created a narrative by which they could run him out the door. The truth is $$$...they never wanted 2 pay that. To your point, why in the world would we repeat the same mistake? Fans need 2 think.

I think Evans and Cooks make the most sense and are the most realistic.

I wonder what the deal with Michael Thomas is?
The problem with Evans = He is on the last year of his contract.. We would probably need to work out a new contract in a trade for him or it could possibly just end up being a 1 year rental. I don't really like tossing draft picks away on 1 year rentals unless the draft pick is very low. If we could work out a new contract and Tampa doesn't try to fleece us then I would be good with this move.

The problem with Cooks = He is set to make $18.5 million this year and $16 million the following year. I'm not sure I see him as being worth that much money.

Worth noting a couple things here.
1. Every player on this list would be cheaper on these deals for 2023 and 2024 than Amari Cooper is on his deal.
2. Dallas would likely extend and restructure these guys to lower year 1 cap hit.
3. Mike Evans appears a 1-year rental as he will want to hit free agency for that last big payday.
4. Gut says two guys already linked to Dallas in reports are most likely: Nuk and Cooks.
Nuk would be 39M over 2 years if left untouched.
Cooks 35M over 2 years if left as is. To me Cooks is a very similar player to Amari and would cost 9M less over 2 years.
Both should be very light trade requirements as they are making a lot of money and noise in dead end situations.

Amari cost 66M over those final 3 years.
That was the issue.
22M for a top 15 but not top 10 WR is very, very pricey.
Add in he wasnt happy at CeeDe supplanting him as WR1 and you had issues an conflicts.
Things many people saw coming draft night when CeeDee fell.

But Dallas can go get ANY player on this list for less than 44M over the next 2 years.
It's just what mix of cash and picks are they willing to spend.

Evans is the best of the current bunch with Stephon a close 2nd.

Having said that a name I don’t here much around here is Jakobi Myers from NE. He’s a FA this year and this dude can play. We don’t need two #1’s we need an awesome #2.
Ideally, you want 4 #1’s

Jerry said money was the reason they moved on from Amari. If it’s about money you can forget Jerry trading for one of those receivers. He’s not about to give up draft picks and have to pay premium dollar for a WR after moving on from Amari for a fifth round pick.

That’s where I’m at with it.

The whole Cooper thing makes NO sense if you turn around and trade draft capital and give a big contract to replace him with an older player who probably won’t be as good.

And we continue to wonder why…..
