I wasn't being literal. I'm just saying she works in the field and probably knows a lot of people working towards those very few high-profile jobs.

There are Ex-NFLers working other jobs that would have loved a shot at the job, but Romo is getting it because of who he knows - whether in fact he's good at it or not.

Romo got this job because it was the only way to keep him off of FOX. Nothing more nothing less. Aikman ain't going anywhere so Romo probably would have been B or C team as he should have been to start off with. CBS probably offered up the top spot and it was a done deal.

I think it's a fair reaction. I'm sure this reaction is shared by others in the industry but they won't dare say it publicly.

OT - Poor Bonnie. Based on some of the posts here, I guess her questionable past at University of Maryland is more known than I thought.

That's my point; she's not wrong.

But she is not going to change it either.

Whether she is right or wrong it really does not matter to the networks doing the hiring.

In the end she probably regrets writing what she wrote even if she is right ...because it looks whiny.

But no biggie for me or you.

She could have been more tactfull and taken a more graceful and embracing approach towards something that is already a done deal, professional curtesy and all. After all, TV media is fluid and todays rival broadcaster may be your coworker tomorrow...just ask Troy Aikman.

Aside from that, in todays social media environment, I expect the vitriol critiques to be constant and present until Romo gets his day in the booth and shuts -up all the doubters.

The fact that she made this comment on social media tells me all I need to know of her professionalism, I expect if/when she meets Tony or his wife face to face she will act as if she didn't write this "crap" of a comment without considering TR's 10 years of experience on the field, or his capabilities to color commentate on a game...she probably never saw a TR interview.

Pure diatribe.

So the Jason Garrett approach? I like it.

It is rather odd that he would be hired for that slot with no experience. He may be awesome, but if he bombed, say like Emmitt, it would really look bad. Bonnie has worked her arse off to be a good reporter, so I get her response.

Remember when Eric Dickerson was going to be a sideline reporter? You knew it was going to fail at his first game, the Hall of Fame game.

I know you are being rhetorical but hot jewish chick who was a gymnast at Maryland, worked as sideline girl for ESPN and CBS, pretty hot, now getting older and no longer really in business

apparently never married no children, never heard of any long time lover either

So you're saying there's a chance ...

Also neither one of those guys were on the #1 team right out of retirement.

Bonnie B is right, if you thinking about protecting the business. Now if you are talking about making money and what is going to be entertaining, which will always be a top priority in the Entertainment business... sure Romo to the top spot makes sense. That's just the way it will be... doesn't mean it is a fair system tho.

Exactly. In her situation her comments won't be well received and were quite foolish. She deserves the backlash. That said, I'm also stunned they would immediately install Romo on the CBS lead team.

I'm sure they did some trial runs where he broadcasted over old games or something. CBS must have really liked his audition.

Not only that, but these types of hires are made by people that are way above her pay grade, does she really consider herself more knowledgeable than the TV execs that called this play?

BB stick to your grind, let the talent hires be done by the people who know what plays in America.

Oh and BTW, Dallas Cowboy QBs play in American media…Shocker.

The on field experience factor is a wash in this case. Most of the other commentators in house for CBS have 10 years experience as well. Simms won 2 SB's and a MVP. So obviously that can't be a criteria.

I think the point is give this guy a studio gig if you want to try him out. You don't throw him into your #1 role off the street. That's devaluing the business.

Bonnie is pointing out that the job should be of higher standards than a ratings grab. I think the Aikman NFL network special was a good awareness for folks to see the amount of the work needed to be successful. It's not just X's and Os.. or showing up on Saturday night walk throughs with a spiral. It's a full week of prep, research, interviews, phone calls, etc.. Then.. you get to call the games and your X's and O's shine,.

This is real work not just some stuff you do on the side waiting on a contract from the Texans or Broncos. Bonnie B might should have relaxed a bit, but she wasn't wrong to protect the business.

What she fails to recognize is that how Romo has handled himself in media interviews was his job interview. Yes, he has a lot to learn about the job, but charisma is not something that comes as naturally to all of us as it does to Romo.

It was the same with Aikman. He also was coveted as a broadcaster because of his interviews.

Now, that doesn't mean it always works out, but starting with someone who can handle themselves when a mic is stuck in his face isn't a bad way to do business.

Tough to fault Bernstein for getting her nose out of joint here. She's overlooking the fact that Tony's had a lot of really unique experience many broadcasters can never get. And he's the highest-potential athlete to retire to the booth since probably Deion Sanders (who sucks and is an idiot). It is a big jump from NFL to lead analyst as a rookie. That said, if they didn't offer the lead gig, they wouldn't have gotten Tony, anyway. So it is what it is. The Laws of Supply and Demand are pretty inflexible.

Everybody thought Troy Aikman wouldn't work in the booth either when Fox hired him and he's turned out to be one of thee best in the business on game day......hopefully Romo has contacted Troy for some advice...
When Troy hired on I was like , he didn't talk the whole time he was in Dallas, he doesn't have any personality, shows what I know....
