Wade Phillips gets the boot after going 34-22, with 2 division titles and a playoff victory.

Garrett goes .500 again, gets the vote of confidence.

Stacking and processing, watching the tape of football games, well.

Really is disturbing how Jerry has this obsession with a 500 coach..............................Opie aint getting any better folks, if he hasnt learned game management after 3.5 seasons, he aint ever going to learn it.

How the hell can Wade get fired after 3 full seasons where he won two division titles and a playoff game and Garrett cannot even break 500 in 3 complete seasons and gets a vote of confidence. And the usual excuse of "the team quit on Wade and not on Garrett" is total BS. Even Rowan on Talking Cowboys was saying he saw guys quiting in the Saints and Bears games. He said defensive players were just jogging around the field in the 4th quarter like they didnt even give a dam. So that is just as much quit as the team under Wade did against Green Bay.

So can anybody explain this? Why does Wade get fired after 3 complete seasons with 2 division titles and a playoff game and Garrett has 3 complete seasons and cannot even post a winning record, but gets to stay...........How is this fair in any way?

What are you talking about?

Garrett had a 26-3 halftime lead against the Packers and ran the ball what? 5 times in the 2nd half? The Packers ran the ball twice as much as the Cowboys did and they were behind?

Garrett had a successful running game going in that game and abandoned it. You don't think that shold be questioned? You think Garrett handled that game correctly? Everything was done the way it should have been? If you think that, I can't help you.

Garrett was responsible for that loss. The fact that this is his 4th year at the HC position and still makes these mindless errors tells me that he is not capable of managing a game properly. End of story.

The Garrett fanboys will ignore this great post like its the plague................keep preaching bro.

I thought the organization cared about winning.......................my mistake.

Your mistake is thinking the problem is the coaching, and not the defense. But that's ok. Merry Christmas, Beast, by the way.

Merry Christmas Idgit...............we will agree to disagree buddy.

Ok. For today, anyway. Tomorrow, we're back at each other's throats.

Just settling down a bit after a marathon wrapping session. Back aching, and have to be up in 5 hours to watch my kids get more spoiled. :)

My take is that JG has gotten tired of frequently switching HC's and wants to give his favorite son a long, long look. His patience in this respect seems to exceed that of many Cowboys fans (including myself)...

I think you mean JJ, but IMO, I think that this is truly a case of Jones wanting to prove to the football world that he was right about garrett....who cares how long it takes, let's bring in a guy with ZERO head coaching experience at any level....it couldn't not have been any more obvious of how much of a boob garrett is when in the Commander game, he tried to call the TO when there was about 30 seconds left on the play-clock...tony stepped in and told the ref to wait....how does a guy who has to do everything on the field ALSO have to hold the head coaches hand in the midst of the most crutial moment of the game....pathetic....almost as pathetic as mr stretchy-face already (basically) guaranteeing JG's "future" with the team again yesterday....

yes, sorry about that, I was never happy about the JG hire given the amount of on-the job training that would be required to get this guy up to speed. A sad waste of the prime years of Romo, Witten and others...

exactly, and if Jones is to be believed, Garrett is safe regardless of sunday and "has a bright future with the cowboys" (paraphrasing)...8&8 for 3 straight years is good entertainment!

The OP made me sick to my stomach. If Jerry keeps the red headed idiot another year it is proof positive he is truly senile. He truly is one of the worst coaches in recent history, if not the entire history of the NFL, and it is not even debatable. I can't remember any coaches causing so many losses, at least 2 per season, from complete idiotic bone headed game management decision that any arm chair fan could make.

Because Jerry's ego is tied to Garrett.

Garrett-top is Jerruh's hand picked boy. He was groomed, by Jerruh, for this role and will be given every single opportunity to succeed. He will be back next year, regardless of Sunday's outcome.

Now Old Man Kiffin & Callahan are another matter. Jerruh knows he needs to do something to please his sheep. The masses expect a sacrifice of some sorts. Afterall, how will Jerruh blow sunshine & puppydogs up everyone's collective ***** next year if he doesn't have anything to promote "change from the status quo"? Firing his coordinators are perfect ingredients for next year's "secret sauce".

I would say the problem is the performance of the defense and offense, and that a huge part of that is the coaching.

Garrett is over his head as an OC, he's way over as a HC. But Jerry likes him and is content with him being the OC with the HC title. Besides, I don't think Jerry wants to go on another coaching search. He's made it known over the years he doesn't want to hire a legit HC.

Jerry really wants to be the HC but knows it's not feasible so he instead hires coordinators but Jerry makes many of the decisions, such as hiring the coordinator on the opposite side of the ball. When you look back at all the HC's Jerry has hired, only Jimmy and Bill had control over their staffs. The rest either inherited the existing staff or Jerry hired the other coordinator for them.

Just look at last year when Jerry hired Kiffin as def. coordinator on the recommendation of Larry Lacewell. And Garrett himself was hired as OC before Wade Phillips was hired as DC/HC. Been this way going back to Switzer, with the one exception of when Parcells was here.

Hate to say it but I think hell will freeze over before Jerry hires another prominent HC and gives him the power/authority to hire his own staff.
