Because he clearly wants the most he can get which is his right as a player and I would not tell anyone else in any other job that they do not have the right to try and earn as much as they can. It was the motivation of Drew Brees for most of his career, Brady before he married Giselle, and pretty much every other top QB on down to the mid level guys all wanting the most they possibly can.
Yeah, we already agreed to that, so you can stop repeating yourself. No he did not. He did not take the highest paid contract in his first extension because at the time there were still question marks about him and experts were asking was he just along for the ride. It was not until after that contract, and when he got a certain elite WR, that people stopped asking if he was that good but by then he had married into someone making double his money
Also last I checked 30 million is in fact 6 million less than 36 million so you are not just as rich. As much as you are worth does not mean "20% less than what I am worth because its close enough," its means it is fine for him to want to every penny.
To be clear, I don't consider the 33 mil/season he was offered "team friendly." I consider that a fair offer. Why would anyone call that anything else?I don’t feel he was cheated. It is a simple fact. He has been the best value in the NFL for the past 4 years since he significantly outperformed his rookie contract. I would not expect that player to then look to take a team friendly deal at the first opportunity he has to actually get paid what he thinks he is worth. Not sure why this is an issue. Whether you want him to get paid or not, surely you can see it isn’t irrational for him to play a little hard ball, especially when some of his teammates have been rewarded for doing the same thing.
Yes, it was fair, not team friendly. It's just what market value was at the time.To be clear, I don't consider the 33 mil/season he was offered "team friendly." I consider that a fair offer. Why would anyone call that anything else?
It's too bad our genius GM and his adopted idiot son/coach didn't take advantage when we had the unfair advantage with Dak's rookie contract. With that being said I wish Dak would follow Brees and Brady's lead by being a team player with the cap. He'll take a little less to hopefully win a little more, or win it all. And leave a legacy behind.
NE understands that at most positions, cheap B+ player + significant cap space saved is MUCH better for the team than A- player on a huge contract. So do I plymker. I also wish that the Cowboys would follow the example set by the Patriots and learn to manage the salary cap instead of shooting themselves in the foot by overpaying players. If they hadn't overpaid Zeke and Dlaw, they'd be in a better position now.
NE showed how to control the salary cap and still win, more teams need to get the message, including the Cowboys.
People are talking about "market value" as if it has to be the highest. That's not "market value". 33 mil/season is easily w/i the bounds of "market value".Yes, it was fair, not team friendly. It's just what market value was at the time.
Still not a bad offer, IMO.
Yup. And the problem is, DLaw is more of a B player.NE understands that at most positions, cheap B+ player + significant cap space saved is MUCH better for the team than A- player on a huge contract.
An obvious exception to this, IMO, is kicker, since they never make too much, and a good one is so hard to find.
Honestly with the money from his contract they could have paid a couple of B level DEs along the lines of a Jabaal Sheard type from a few years back and had a better rotation at the position.Yup. And the problem is, DLaw is more of a B player.
Sheard is as good as DLaw.Honestly with the money from his contract they could have paid a couple of B level DEs along the lines of a Jabaal Sheard type from a few years back and had a better rotation at the position.
Oh, it most certainly DOES NOT have to be the highest.People are talking about "market value" as if it has to be the highest. That's not "market value". 33 mil/season is easily w/i the bounds of "market value".
It shows the front office has no backbone, and is subservient to the players.Sheard is as good as DLaw.
I would never have extended DLaw w/ him refusing to have surgery. When a team starts bowing to players' demands in a blackmail setting, they are setting a terrible precedent. Both DLaw and EZ should've been told to get in camp and we'll talk. DLaw should've been told that a new contract would only be discussed after the surgery.
Yeah, we already agreed to that, so you can stop repeating yourself.
So, you'd rather Dak get paid 40 mil/season and lose than Dak get paid 30 mil/season and win. Why is what Dak makes more important to you than the Cowboys winning? I find this very strange.
Treating a guy with a net worth of $2 million dollars as if he is in the same situation as a guy with a net worth of $120 million is a bogus position to take. They are not in the same situations. If Dak were 42 years old with a net worth of $120 million and was certain to make the Hall of Fame his attitude would be different than it is today.
If his balk it the guaranteed money, then just up it to $111 mil and he'll be a tick above what Goff and Wentz got.The Cowboys already offered him $33 mil yr. and $105 mil guaranteed for what, 4 years?
If Brees is 42 and worth 120 mil, the Cowboys offered to guarantee Dak 105 mil by the time he's 30? So what's the problem? How old is Dak, 26? Not sure about the age, but that sounds like a perfectly reasonable offer by the Cowboys and Dak is turning up his nose at it!
Apparently greed knows no limits.
Do you REALLY feel that $105 mil guaranteed is an unreasonable offer? Is there ANY amount high enough that you guys would not still argue about it??
13mil a season. A STEAL FOR A HOF SB WINNER..Bread has made 237 million
Those team friendly contracts he’s taken
Yeah, it was a good offer. I still don’t blame him for playing hardball. To be clear, I don't consider the 33 mil/season he was offered "team friendly." I consider that a fair offer. Why would anyone call that anything else?
I'm willing too. You?!Of course he is willing.
To be clear, I don't consider the 33 mil/season he was offered "team friendly." I consider that a fair offer. Why would anyone call that anything else?
Salaries don’t work that waywhat over 19 years thats about
