I expect Ware to do really well in Denver if he is healthy; however, releasing him was still the right decision for the Cowboys even if he has an All Pro season in Denver. The probability of him being injured again combined with the incredible salary was just too much to make it worth it for a team that didn't make the playoffs the previous season.

I agree, I wanted him back at the 6 - 8MM range and would have been happy with the risk at that price. But at the price Denver paid, it was time for Dallas to move on. For this thread, it does seem like Lawrence was a good pick and will contribute this year. I think him and Selvie will split time and produce a lot more than Ware did at the position last year.

This is the one thing i cant stand about Broaddus. He will bash fans all the time for praising players and questioning his scouting with players in shirts and shorts. But when he wants tout his view he will ride and claim victory in shirts and shorts. seems like a guy who hates being wrong. He still wont let go of the floyd thing from last yr eventhough Dallas clearly picked the right guy

Where exactly do you think an offensive lineman puts his hands on a defensive lineman? An offensive ineman uses the defensive linemans pads to control him. Were he to use his hands anywhere else, it would be called either holding or facemask. When there are no pads, there is nothing for the offensive lineman to get a grip on and control. Furthermore, as someone else pointed out, the rookies are going 100% to try and prove their worth. Guys like Smith are locks and are simply going through the motions. Now the question, have you ever played on the OL, or did you really just copy and paste this? Because everyone you are attacking actually has played on the Ol and for some reason you still believe you have a leg to stand on in this debate.

If the DL wasn't being blocked then why was Murray running free when Sean got planted on the field and ultimately on the bench for the entire 2014 season.

Let me save everyone some time .. Here are the default fan reactions .. :D

Optimist: "We have DeMarcus Ware 2.0 on the team!"

Pessimist: "Tyron has declined so quickly."

Realist: "Not wearing pads so it means nothing!"

Agenda-ist: "He must be on the Romo diet plan."

Troll-ist: "DLaw would have gone undrafted had the Cowboys not drafted him."

Humorist: "Underwear Olympics" .. enough said :)

this Dline will strike fear in 0 O coordinators. A rookie rush end will do well with 10 sacks and that is asking a lot. we are in full on re build mode on D and if anybody can't see that we are years away on D they are fooling themselves.

Remember all the players that shined in OTA's and in Camp and were never heard from again?

It may not mean much when the real games start, but count me as someone who would prefer hearing this over Tyron is completely handling Lawrence. It at least shows that the kid is coming to work with the right attitude.

That situation was a little different. First, on that particular play, I think most people agree Lee's leg started to give out before Martin touched him. Second, Martin was moving up the field at the time, so he had momentum to help finish that block. In pass protect and run blocking, the idea is to try and get your hands on the opposing players pads, right beneath their armpits and either wall them off in pass protect or drive them out of the running lane in run blocking. It doesn't always work that way, of course, especially when the dlineman is trying to run around the OL - this is where punch and footwork are important. However, I can pretty much guarantee you, the Ol have been instructed to hold back on their punches, because without the Dline having pads on, that punch, especially Smith's, could do some serious damage.

There is certainly something to that.

I would also like to go on record saying that DLaw may in fact prove to be worthy of the 2nd and 3rd pick. He could be a great player. My only argument has been that in this particular situation, the Ol is at a bit of disadvantage. Add to that that their wrecking crew has already been credited with 1 injury and likely have been asked to take it easy, and you should understand why not everyone is willing to start predicting double-digit sacks and TFL's for DLaw based off of a few no-pad OTA practices.

Yes, Broaddus is a polarizing media person. He obviously is much more knowledgeable than most guys like Calvin Watkins, etc. The problem is that he is as emotional as fans and he does not use good logic.

He just reports whatever comes to mind without thinking it through. He has reported that players appear to be out of shape when it turns out the the player is not moving well due to injury. He has pet cats every year that he continues to try to sell. If he ever predicted that a player would be good or bad, he will continue to try to convince everybody that he was correct. Floyd was one example.

The other thing that he does is intermix his own opinions with what he's heard from the Cowboys coaches/scout/front-office. He sometimes has good info if you can determine that it was something that he has been told; however, if it was just his own idea, then he's usually wrong. In the off-season he said that he (Broaddus) would like to see Carter move to SLB and rush the passer more. Most people took that to mean that he had been told this information, but if you listen to his actual statement, it was just his own idea.

He reported the other day that Carter was a SLB and Wilber at WLB. Marinelli can out and somewhat tried to explain it. Basically, the 3-tech does not always shift sides when the TE lines up on the defensive right, even though technically that is now the Strong Side. Marinelli said that the WLB is always behind the 3-tech, which was a reference to plays where the TE lines up on the defensive right which changes the DL from a 4-3 under to a 4-3 over if the 3-tech does not move. The WLB is now on the strong side, but he's still not playing what they call the SLB position. It seems like Broaddus should have understood this concept, but instead he just reported that Carter and Wilber had switched positions.

Good explanation of that. I tried to speak on that early on about the over and under and how at times both our tackles play a 3 technique. It's not the simple defense some think it is and it has morphed over time.

The loss of Lee is much bigger than some think. He knows that defense and I'm worried his loss will hamper the ability of the LBers to play more complicated schemes. We'll see. If we can even recognize what the heck they are doing.
