I don't think Davis is a vested veteran so we wouldn't have to pay anything other than his current salary if we claim him.

He makes more sense than most of the names we have seen.

I don't expect us to sign any FA QB, simply cause the team believes Romo will be back sooner rather later. JG won't even rule Romo out for week 1. I wouldn't get my hopes up to high on Davis or anyone else.

With Hue Jackson there? Yes.

I'll disagree. RG3 to me, was obviously Jackson's reclamation project and starter. And McCown is a stable, reliable, team-guy, backup quarterback, despite his bloated salary. But the Browns have nothing else if not a bunch of cap space.

Davis played poorly in Cleveland, but who hasn't? Bad pass protection, bad receivers, bad coaching. Great combination.

I liked the Austin Davis that I saw in St Louis, and hopefully in an offense featuring the talent the Cowboys have, he'd be able to play within himself and be a solid backup.

Stephen has already stated the search is on. So in your scenario you have Showers as the backup to Dak?

Showers has also been victimized by several drops. He deserves a practice squad spot.

Can't hurt to bring him in. He needs a job and we've got money. But are we the only ones needing more QBs?

only 2 things would change my mind, if Romo is put on IR, or if Showers plays horrible vs the Texans thursday, other than that.... Showers is cheap and knows our system. so I'm not expecting a move honestly.

Browns also released LB Paul Kruger

I'd be more interested in kicking the tires on another Browns cut, Paul Kruger, just as a situational pass rusher.

I'd bring him in as well. He's only a year removed from having an 11 sack season, and had a very good post season run with the Ravens in 2012. He probably doesn't have a bunch of tread left, but it's worth a look.

Seems as though they changed their usage of him last year as well.

Kruger is coming off of a contentious season in which he was asked to drop back into coverage more by former defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil. After having a career-best 11 sacks in 2014, he had only 2.5 sacks in 2015, often motoring toward the right tackle to no avail.

I don't think anyone is saying Showers should not make it back to the practice squad. We are however a professional football team and as such, we can leave our season up to two players that have never played in NFL regular season game. Dak in a short time has shown that he is better than Showers and is the best option moving forward. Outside of that, we need to get the best available player in case something happens to Dak or he struggles like most rookies do. There are not going to be a lot of options and really for the ones that will be available Dak is by far the best choice to lead us at the early part of the season. If he does okay then he'll keep the job. If he struggles we need to have a viable option available to us.

RGIII.....is debatable. McCown though......they are in no position to let guys go because they have invested more in a guy. If Davis was better he'd be their starter. Hue Jackson is the same guy who cut Johnny Manziel....a former 1st round pick just two years ago. He's shown he's willing to do whatever it takes to field a decent team out there.

Really? You think that there was any decision at all to be made in Manziel?

I still think one of the KC QBs that will be cut or Geno Smith/ Bryce Petty who I think gets cut are also options.

The dude got cut from the Browns. We already had one Browns castoff QB.

He's got some talent.

Ryan Fitzpatrick got tossed around a few times and look at him.

I think Davis is about as solid of a prospect as we'll find.

He's a bit of a gun slinger and he can buy time. Seems like a good fit.
