Browns trade rumors

Yup. I think this will be one of those damned if we do, damned if we don't scenario's. Probably be a few years til we know.....

We will have had a staff that coached him first hand and every opportunity to put him on the team.

If Wentz is a stud NFL QB, especially for Philladelphia, then it will be the biggest mistake in the history of this franchise and they had no excuse for it.

Man, I just don't get the Eagles taking a quarterback after giving Sam Bradford $27 million, and Chase Daniel $18 million. Throw in Wentz and you have quite a bit of payroll tied up in a rookie, a back up, and the starter who's never proven anything.

What am I missing?

Well, they've already paid for those two quarterbacks. Last year's number one overall Jameis Winston got $23.3 million for four years with a $16.7 million signing bonus. The owner has to come up with the cash, but the bonus is prorated over the life of the contract for the cap. That left 6.6 million in salary to be paid out over the four years. So, their franchise QB would be a cap hit of roughly a little less than 6 million a year at an average annual salary of $1.65 million. I can't find any 2016 numbers, but our cost for a QB at number 2 would be the same, and for whoever we take at #4 a little less.

I would welcome any corrections from our gurus who actually know this stuff, but the intention here is merely to approximate the cost. Oh, the contract is fully guaranteed.

Oh, I get how it works. Including bonus for ration and all that stuff. What I don't get is why the Eagles would spend that much money on one position.

I would be pissed if I was the owner and had to eat that signing bonus in a trade/cut without that player even playing a snap on the extension.

I'm not buying the Eagles making this trade...I doubt it will happen.

It wouldn't surprise me either way, although I do think there will be a trade but not necessarily with the Eagles. The Browns are gaming people right now.....

Bradford is only signed for two years. If their new QB is ready to go in 2017, they cut or trade either Bradford or the other guy and subtract the savings from whatever the new guy costs. If it works out they only have a year of overlap and are good to go at QB for a decade or more.

Um. no.
I wouldn't reach out of desperation.

Partly desperation but partly considering what it would cost to get a decent QB in the future draft (look what Rams, Eagles and Skins had to give up to move up in the draft--basically mortgage the future). If we just use 4th pick even if Lynch is 20th player on their board but they think he can be the future then it's worth it. Nevertheless, watching other teams "reach" such as Gabbert, Ponder, Locker etc make me shudder.

You would think it would be QB but judging by their roster, Eagles could use an OL much more.

Silly move by philly if true. It's truly elementary to obsess about a player enough to trade away two years worth of drafts when you have significant holes at OL, RB, WR and CB. Especially when you already paid two QBs good money.
ya Im hoping that it is true and they draft one of these two busts tbh

That it would be great for us? :)

All I am going to say is that Wentz better not turn into Joe Montana 2.0

We coached him for a dam week, had him in meetings, practice, and everything else.

So there is no excuse to not go get him if he is a true franchise QB. Now if our scouts say he isn't and we let him go to Philly, he dam well better suck.

If he becomes a stud, I fire my entire scouting dept and coaching staff if they blow this evaluation

Same GM, same apprentice GM. Nothing will change because there's no accountability there. The only, and I do mean only, silver lining I see is that they have at least been getting the 1st Rd picks right. At least it gives me a sliver of hope they have judged these QBs right if they deem them not worthy.

I'm going to be pissed if the board leaks and we see one/both of Goff/Wentz at the top and they just sat there though.

LOL. God, I love draft time, people are starting to fray at the edges!

6 months ago, no one knew the name of Wentz; now, many in here are lamenting that he likely won't be a Cowboy....still trying to figure that out; I hope to God that Philly mortgages their future for a guy that never really did anything against any type of competition...could he be good? SURE...worth the better parts of two drafts good? NOPE

I am actually excited for the opportunity that presents itself to Dallas if QBs go 1 & 2 since either Tunsil or Ramsey fall to #4 (or both)...

Remember that time the Commanders went to go get RG3.... a qb more highly regarded than Goff and Wentz?

How'd that work out?

Pretty well for a while as I recall, they kicked our butts pretty good!

But yeah, one quarterback bust = they all stink, for some people.

Unlike actual decision-makers, armchair GM's suffer no loss when they're wrong, so they can make whatever ridiculous claims they want. All they have to do is hide for a while and then pretend it never happened.

It looks like 'carpet-bombing to me. They're throwing as many resources into the position as possible to maximize their chances for success.

Apparently, they have the cap flexibility to pay Bradford at that ridiculous rate for two years and then they'll almost certainly move on from him. That will lift a huge cost from their future cap. And then it's just Daniel at $7 million and Wentz at what? About $6 million a year?

By then (2018), the cap will have likely significantly increased again and they'll have two quarterbacks at a cost of $13-$14 million for the year. A bargain at that point.

Their one stumbling point in otherwise having their team paid is Fletcher Cox. It says a lot to me that he still isn't done.

Last decade selecting a QB in the first round has been a crap shoot, more have turned out not to be what GM's have thought they where.

Well we dont know who they will pick, They felt they needed to move up, so probably they do have
someone in mind and it might be wentz.
People just assume they know ,when it is likely, but they can pick another player.

I will just wait and see who picks who.
I think this is a hard draft to predict.
