Browns trade rumors

This is the best part about the draft. It really is a crap shoot and when picking high in the draft it makes the draft MUCH MORE important. We have the best players to pick from at 4 and we really should hit a good player for us for years to come. All we can do now is discuss who we all like and dislike and no one is wrong at this point. I mean I have been wrong about so many players in the draft that it doesn't bother me if I am right or wrong I don't get paid to be right or wrong. Its just fun to have an opinion and discuss with everybody. I would have never guessed that Ryan Leaf and Tim Couch would have turned out as awful as they did. I did think Drew Brees was gonna be a great player, I thought Morris Claiborne was gonna be great, I thought Roy Williams was gonna be the best thing since sliced bread (was until Woody retired). I thought the jump from Troy to the NFL was gonna be too much for Demarcus Ware, I never thought Jason Witten would turn into the best all around TE we have seen in the NFL for a while (not the best receiver save the arguing), I really never thought Jay Ratliff would actually turn into a player worth having on a roster. I could go on and on.

Any disagreements we may have aside, you have a great attitude about the whole thing and I definitely agree with you. I often wish I took things more in stride like you do.

Eagles have a solid core on defense, I would trade our defense for theirs in a heart beat. Offensively? The team is pretty lackluster. They have average receivers at best, average running backs and an average, aging OL. I have even talked to several Eagle fans that I am friends with and they feel they should stay where they are. When you do trades like that, you limit any chance you have to upgrade other positions. The Eagles have also spent a ton of money this year, that will catch up with them like it did the Cowboys when we were signing all of the pieces that helped us go 13-3 almost a decade ago long term.

So then, apparently, their scouting department "hasn't just been terrible"?

No, they were saying that neither was "worth" the Cowboys drafting at #4 overall. Unless you're trying your hand at revisionist history now?

And yet the Eagles are paying Bradford $18 million and Daniel $7 million and are apparently still trying to trade up for Wentz?

But I'm sure the "Eagles are just dumb" and the "internet fans are smart"...

It's just as likely that Hue Jackson realizes that he has the least talented roster in the league and that one quarterback - no matter how good - isn't going to change that alone. And the new regime hired there values draft picks over one player to fill all those holes. It certainly falls in line with the Moneyball system.

You make it sound like the Eagles voice is the voice of God or something. Good for them, but it's just their opinion.

I've said all along--no wavering whatsoever--that if a front office really LOVES one of these QBs to a point where they think they are worthy of a top 5 pick, then by all means take the player.
Just don't take a QB because you can. If the evaluation actually fits the pick and your draft board, then sure, go for it.
That includes Dallas , btw.

Bet I've said this a dozen times already.

Just seems you're starting to take this whole QB thing personally

For those wanting QB in the first or bust...might not want to tune into the draft. Either they have made it abundantly clear they will not be taking a QB at 4 and are telling the truth...or for once Jerry is actually playing a good bluff game, the stars align and we have the QB of our choice fall to us at four.

Otherwise by all indications it looks like we will draft one in the 2-4 round area and like Run DMC used to sing...

It's like that, and that's the way it is.

I can accept it if the quarterbacks go 1-2 and Dallas didn't have the opportunity to draft them. Where I'll have a problem is if one of them is there and the folks who bring you the quarterback 'factory of sadness' passes on him.

That I cannot accept.

And the opinion of every other team the Browns are talking to about the #2 pick. Or is it your opinion that the Eagkes are the only team interested in the pick?

I'm not taking anything personally, someone else's difference of opinion doesn't mean that much to me. We're all free to believe whatever we want to, no matter how it might otherwise appear.

But I'm seeing a general consensus of opinion from NFL decision makers. Those in need of a quarterback feel that both of them are worth the cost. And I'll value that over what any random fan thinks otherwise. Their actions speak louder than any fans' words.

And I honestly trust opinions outside the Cowboys on quarterbacks more than I do any opinions inside. Taking a look at these people's track record with quarterbacks makes it obvious why.

My worst nightmare and I'm not even joking.

It will be my low point as a fan of this team. They get Carsus. We're stuck with a broken down Romo and nothing remotely resembling a quality option for the future.

But hey, it's fun pretending to be an NFL GM.

I don't think Wentz will ever even amount to half a Romo. Not much of a nightmare watching Wentz sit the bench for two years, not even being active. And when Wentz finally becomes ready, it will be fun watching Ramsey intercept him or Bosa sacking him.

The only nightmare I envision is Eagle fans upset because Wentz is on the bench for 2016 and 2017and the Eagles don't have draft picks for 2017.

No, I was just joining in on the conversation. I wouldn't say they've been terrible. I think their FO has made some mistakes in spending so much money, I would say it's a mistake to trade away two drafts to draft a QB when you already spent money on two this offseason. Now I know the Eagles would draft Wentz to likely be 3rd string starting off...but let the Eagles start 0-2 and immediately you will find a huge QB controversy trying to force Wentz into the lineup.

The scouting has been okay with the Eagles, mainly on defense. The FO has been bad though.

Living up here, it seems the dominant position is that they absolutely should stay at 8 and not give up that many picks for Wentz. This is in contrast to last year when the city basically wanted Mariota.

What exactly has Wentz done in college that makes him this sure fire shot at QB?

I didn't say he was. But he has the tools and potential to the point that if I'm going to take a risk I'll do it on a potential franchise QB over a DB.

I think everyone is being trolled and the Browns have every intention of going QB @ #2.

It should be noted that many of their recent problems were simply because of Kelly and his issues. It was Kelly who forced the dumping of Jackson. Then after a power play that put Roseman on the backburner, it was Kelly who dumped guys like McCoy, etc.

I was completely in the camp that I didn't think the Eagles would make a move for the #2 pick but all indications from up here seem to be that they very much want that pick and are going hard after it. Then again, it's such a prevalent story now that you wonder if it's really true. These types of moves often seem to come from nowhere as opposed to being telegraphed like this one would be.

Yep, Its what I have been saying. They will trade up, get a QB that WE should draft and then trade Bradford to Denver or SF.

I know the eagles hoodwinked the Dolphins into actually giving up something for two players, one with a high salary and the other with an injury history in the final year of his contract. But, I don't see any way the Eagles move Bradford and his $18M salary at this stage in the game.

If not for their front office shakeup, I'd agree. But with this whole new analytics stance they are taking, I think they want to accumulate as many picks as they can over multiple drafts. The question is will someone give them what they want?

Could Denver even afford Bradford? What would be the cap implications?

We know that the Rams think that. We also know they have other reasons too. But we'll accept it face value.
We now "might" know that Philly may also think it's worth it.

So that's possibly two teams so far. Wouldn't surprise if there is another one even.

Cool

Like I've been saying; if it's an honest evaluation and not over eagerness to address a need, kudos to them. The player better end up being a perennial Pro Bowler though, to give all that up.
And for all we know, one or both just night be some day.

Knee-jerk fans could scream until their lungs fell out and the team wouldn't do a damn thing about it.

The Chip Kelly run front office was bad for sure. But since Roseman has been back in power, he's done just about everything he can to erase them. But it's not possible to get back the players Kelly released or traded away, while it is possible to get out from the bad moves and players he did bring in. And the Eagkes have done an excellent job in doing just that. Far better than I ever expected.

People can say it's quarterback overkill if they want, but if the Eagkes get great quarterbacking, they won't care. Nor should they.

Exactly. And not spending in free agency and then expecting 'instant impact' from your draft is all kinds of stupid.

Again, this team added three first round talents last year - three! Anybody dumb enough to expect it now should tell me all about how those three talents changed this team's fate in 2015.

Expecting 'instant impact' from the draft is definitely 'all kinds of stupid.' Some fans do that. I doubt coaches and GMs expect that. If you are a GM and expecting instant impact from the draft, you are in serious trouble. One can hope for and be surprised at instant impact from the rookies, but expecting rookie draft picks to make an impact is an exercise in failure.

Agreed. If either team is right, they'll look like geniuses, especially in the current NFL where you can't find enough quarterbacks. And if they're wrong, the decision-makers will be fired and the teams will again be scrambling to find their answer.

No every teams fan base is like this. That's how fans are. Some are extremely positive and some are extremely negative all of the time. If you don't like what some are posting on here go somewhere else or just put people on ignore. Simple as that!

Or try to shame them into acting like men about their team.

Actually, I've been to some other boards and I'll visit more during the season before we play them. I Ike doing that. I can recall, for sure, philly fans have very few of these overly "passive" posts. Natural selection is working for them.
