BTB: The Dallas Cowboys Would Be Fools to Release Romo

This is Jerry's third son. He values his relationship with Tony tremendously. He won't risk that over this.
that is weak......... he has his whole life to be good to Romo.......it isn't all settled this year

he paid Romo 130m...... that is the compensation and show of affection.... like roses and a bracelet

Jerry needs to play hardball with Elway
That is what the Romantics are missing....JJones is negotiating a deal with DEN and Elway not Romo

Romo gets a chance to keep playing but DAL needs compensation for a top NFL starting QB

If he is such a question mark, why are a dozen teams lining up......answer= because they are 20-25 good QBs and Romo is one of them

I think that it is stupid to cut him, period. Trade him, maybe. Trading him after camp opens will get the best return. At the end of the day, I want him to stay on the roster and be here just in case because anyone else we get isn't going to be anything close to him as a QB. Finally, we only have seen Dak for one year...

Because he'll just retire if it isn't to the team of his choice. He's got multiple booth offers already.

That assumes there's only one team out there who's interested that he thinks he can contend with. Nothing we've ever seen from Tony Romo suggests that's likely to be the case. He could easily contend with DEN, HOU, and KC, for example. And potentially contend with a couple others.

Plus, retirement is barely an option in Tony's case. He's too competitive, and he's not dealing medically with anything that's likely to impact him much in the future. Beyond the back injury he's already been playing with. He's not going to retire.

It really isn't. Romo is under contract and is an asset. While Jerry wants to "do right" by Romo, Jerry needs to realize he's paid many millions to Romo and he "owes" him nothing. Jerry needs to have the franchise's best interests in mind, not Romo's.

Romo has endured injuries the past two seasons and has TV opportunities awaiting him once he retires. If he's held hostage to be the backup next season and is forced to take a pay cut, he'll retire so he has some leverage

That's a good one! Jerry, a football guy? Go ahead, tell some more jokes. :p

NFL Hall of Fame 2017. JJones is an honorable guy regardless of what you guys think is good business.
Jones is the recipient of the 2017 SportsBusiness Journal/Daily Lifetime Achievement Award.
Good Will is good business,
Now it may be that where ROMO is heading a trade id made and draft pick given, hooray!
Football is JJones businees

I just think Jerry and Tony made a deal last year. He's played the good soldier. He knows he's better than Dak. He kept his mouth shut.

Tony isn't getting a chance to compete for the starting job, WHICH IS STUPID. He knows that, but he's quiet about it.

Jerry will do him this favor. And they'll still be besties forever.

It is absurdly stupid that the Cowboys aren't even letting Romo compete for the job.

Has he not done enough to deserve that?

The Cowboys have ZERO power here. Romo can retire and step into the booth immediately, and teams know this. They're not offering anything for him because they don't have to.

Jerry feels terrible about failing Romo time after time. Romo took Jerry's lousy 3-13 rosters and made the Cowboys relevant. I'd bet they have a gentlemen's agreement here.

If they do get something, it won't be much. I think Jerry just releases him, and lets him have a full run at free agency.

If he wants to retire rather than be traded, then let him retire. He's under contract so either he needs to let us deal him or quit the game. Releasing him should not be an option.

Let him retire then. Either way we'd get nothing, right? So you put the ball in Romo's court and you say, "Tony, you know as well as we do that releasing you out-right (and getting noting) is bad for this team. You pick the teams you'd like to play for and lets to work on making a deal that will be good for both of us. If we can't put something together, you'll either stay here or retire. It's not personal, it's business."

I'll tell you what's weak.

All those moments. All those amazing plays. All that money. All he's done and been through.

And he can't even compete for the job? Seriously? As if Dak Prescott is the second coming of Tom Brady?

This whole debacle is typical of this franchise and fan base.

This isn't some random veteran scrub. This is family to the Joneses. It ain't just business.

It needs to be business. When you get emotional about players, you typically make dumb decisions.

Like overrating the value of fragile old veterans who are probably on their last legs. Which is what every player becomes eventually.

It is absurdly stupid that the Cowboys aren't even letting Romo compete for the job.

Has he not done enough to deserve that?

Deserve has got nothing to do with it. Deserve talk is just sentimentality. He lost his job because his body can't be trusted to make it out of the preseason without sustaining a terrifying injury from taking the most routine of hits.

That could very well be the case. I could see that too.

I think Romo retires if the Cowboys try to ship him off to some absolute tire fire team. He only wants to continue playing ON HIS TERMS - he's not going to risk being sacked into mental disability if there is no hope of a Lombardi at the end. Or if they try to coerce him into being a backup for pennies on the dollar, he'll just bail and get wheelbarrows of money from ESPN or CBS or Fox or NBC or whoever.

I don't think the Cowboys will try to do either of these things, though.
