BTB: The Dallas Cowboys Would Be Fools to Release Romo

I believed all along we would get something in return. It sounds nice to wait for Dallas to cut him and give up nothing. I believe some team will try to snag him before hes hit the open market. What he can bring to a QB needy team is too much temptation to risk being outbid. Wherever he goes he will make that team a legitimate contender, wether its Houston, Denver or KC. If Im wrong Ill own up to it, but id be suprised. Its simply too difficult to find a QB with Romos talent. I think we are going to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick, also we may possibly flip 1st rounders.

I think Romo retires if the Cowboys try to ship him off to some absolute tire fire team. He only wants to continue playing ON HIS TERMS - he's not going to risk being sacked into mental disability if there is no hope of a Lombardi at the end. Or if they try to coerce him into being a backup for pennies on the dollar, he'll just bail and get wheelbarrows of money from ESPN or CBS or Fox or NBC or whoever.

I don't think the Cowboys will try to do either of these things, though.

Again the odds of Romo being traded to a dumpster fire team are pretty small because those teams likely won't be in the market for a 38 year old QB with an injury history. So there's little chance there's a scenario where Jax or Cleveland or the 49ers are calling wanting to make a trade for Romo.

Dallas needs the cap space so a June 2nd release the team can spread his cap hit out over two years where if they trade him, they eat it all this year....and no team is going to offer you high end picks for an often injured aging quarterback with multiple back surgeries....one hit and he's done!

If that's the case, then it would make more sense to keep him. Freeing up money in June, will have no benefit to this years team, with the majority of free agents signed by then.

It needs to be business. When you get emotional about players, you typically make dumb decisions.

Well, saddle up because Jerry's about to compound the dumb decision of not giving Romo a chance to win the job, with another dumb decision to let him walk for nothing.

It is absurdly stupid that the Cowboys aren't even letting Romo compete for the job.

Has he not done enough to deserve that?

Erod, I 100% agree with you that he should be competing for the starting job.

I mean, since when are we so darn good that we can afford to let our best players sit?

If Romo can't play or can't stay healthy, wouldn't that be obvious soon enough? I don't get it. Let them play it out. Romo and Dak are friends, and it would cause no issues. Dak is the future either way.

As much as I like Romo this is not a 1 year deal where Cowboys only save 5 mill. Tony has 3 years left on his contract with base salary of 14, 19.5 and 20.5 Million. This is not the type of contract any team pays for a backup QB. I love the guy but I think it is foolish to hold on to him. I also think Romo is not going to be content as a backup and I don't blame him but Dallas has a chance to have a young and less expensive QB and free up a lot of money over those 3 years remaining on Tony deal if they can move on from this contract

If you really think Jerry Jones doesn't know about football you are silly and foolish
Huge difference between saying he doesn't now football and saying that because he was on a national championship team that he is somehow qualified to be a GM.

If he lost all of his money tomorrow would a single NFL team hire him as GM?

Was that the question yes or no. Way to change it up.

Even if he never heard of the NFL before 1987 he has been the President and GM for 30 years

That is more than enough expertise...he is a certified expert if there ever was one
I agree. People like to hate on Jerry way too much and I get it.

Making wrong decisions doesn't mean you don't have a clue. Not a single GM, coach, owner or any other position get everything right every time. No one is perfect

jerry is going into the hall of fame for what he has done financially for the nfl not as a gm

This article is spot on, if the Cowboys don't get something of value Jerry Jones should relinquish his spot in the hall of fame, lol. I'm not expecting a 1st round pick, but I can't see him being worth less than a 3rd round pick.

That is what the Romantics are missing....JJones is negotiating a deal with DEN and Elway not Romo

Romo gets a chance to keep playing but DAL needs compensation for a top NFL starting QB

If he is such a question mark, why are a dozen teams lining up......answer= because they are 20-25 good QBs and Romo is one of them

Looking at the qb rating ranking the other day I think you are being too generous with the NFL's QB talent.
