BTB: The Dallas Cowboys Would Be Fools to Release Romo

It really isn't. Romo is under contract and is an asset. While Jerry wants to "do right" by Romo, Jerry needs to realize he's paid many millions to Romo and he "owes" him nothing. Jerry needs to have the franchise's best interests in mind, not Romo's.
I agree.

If this team is actually a contender..

then why let Romo go?

We don't have to redo DAK yet..

Why take the cap hit which is not going to help us be MORE competitive.

Keep him and wait while we see a other year of DAK.

I do not understand any more Romo Friendly moves..

this pandering to Romo has to stop.

He needs to play and stop causing us to make decisions that do not make sense and no other team would be thinking.

It totally is not Romo's call. I agree Jerry conceivably might make the wrong call.

What I don't understand is why stories about this always assume the Cowboys are going to release Tony and not get anything for him. That makes zero sense when you know there is more than one team interested in him and you know that he's a game changer for the right team.
I agree. I could see Jerry hanging on to Romo if there aren't any takers at this time.

And this Romo hold all the cards or it's solely his decision is silly too.

It's going to be funny as hell if Romo doesn't receive any serious trade offers.

Jerry will be forced to retain him hoping there might be a desperate team in training camp or preseason after an injury like we saw in Minnesota last year.

I can't see Jerry simply releasing him without any compensation. He'd probably sell it like we wanted to keep him.

Because he'll just retire if it isn't to the team of his choice. He's got multiple booth offers already.

Yeah, and he'll pay back $5 million for the right to walk away from $54 million in future earnings.

But hey, he can easily make up for it in the "booth" for the next 27 years!
:lmao:

Well for one, Romo easily could be bluffing about retiring. Frankly, I suspect he is. He wants to play. Further, the teams that might call about trading for him are destinations he'd likely consider playing for - Denver, Houston, etc. The Browns aren't calling about trading for him. The Jaguars aren't calling for him either. So it's probably moot to try to argue that Romo is going to retire if traded to a place he doesn't want to be. The places he'd hate to play for likely aren't in a situation where they would want to trade for Romo anyway.

The Romo Superfan - who I hope leaves when Romo does - fails repeatedly to take into account that retiring requires Romo to walk away from a potential $54 million in future earnings, but to pay back $5 million in unearned bonus money to do it. But that would blow up his whole "Romo has all the power" narrative he keeps trying to get going.

Sure, Romo can retire and go to the booth. And spend the next 27 years trying to earn the money he could have made in 3 years of playing. Definitely happening.

Only $55 million was guaranteed, most of which he's already earned.

And he's not going to risk more injury on a team going nowhere when he has a cushy job in the booth if he wants it.

Besides, he already has more money than he'll ever spend.

Really? Are you his accountant now too?

That huge house he just built didn't come for free.

If you think he's going to pay back $5 million for the right to walk away from $54 million, you're crazy.

I understand what your saying. I just think he still has the fire and (at this point) would rather watch paint dry than to sit up in a booth on Sundays watching/commenting on 70%+ of the NFL QB's who he can outplay 7 days a week. Re watch/listen to his speech to the media when he turned the team over to Dak. He's a extraordinary competitor and sees his window closing.
He'll be playing next year or sitting on our bench again.

Dallas needs the cap space so a June 2nd release the team can spread his cap hit out over two years where if they trade him, they eat it all this year....and no team is going to offer you high end picks for an often injured aging quarterback with multiple back surgeries....one hit and he's done!

The Vikings traded for Sam Bradford. Not exactly the iron man of QB's and doesn't have nearly Romo's credentials.

Sam Bradford was a last second panic move after Bridgewater's knee exploded. Not the same thing as a routine pre-season trade.

Panicking and trading for a QB a week before the season starts is a bit different than sitting here in March.

But I think it's a good lesson that releasing him now does this franchise absolutely no good. Another injury to a QB in preseason and you'll get a 1 for Romo. If it were me, no way I'd release Romo now.

When Romo plays, he's playing chess when Dak is playing checkers. If Romo goes to Denver, they will destroy us with him this season.

That was evident against Philadelphia, as soon as Philly backed off and didn't dare blitz Romo and he still picked them apart.. And he was throwing darts up-field that were twenty times as fast as Dak, 'injured back' and 'fragile' health and all.

Of course, Dak-homers will say Dak had nothing to play for, but none of that was true considering Dallas didn't start Zeke, but kept Dak in and he played multiple series against Philly who brought the house and Dak couldn't move the ball..

Dak is a good QB, but the reality is, Zeke has made life easy for Dak...

Oh I am on board with that. I am not for cutting him. I just am not in the camp that thinks he's worth a crud ton of picks or a real high pick.

He's not.
