Nope, I'm saying neither are.

What I see is 2 players that both were drafted relatively high...both had expectations to contribute right away...both got hurt early in their first TC...both changed positions...both were new to the 3-4...both are back ups, nickel LBs and ST players...yet only Carpenter gets called a bust.

I find it laughable.

I don't disagree too much. But you expect your top 18 picks to start, contribute and perform at eventual Pro Bowl Levels. Second rounders expectations not so high.

In many regards Burnett has outplayed Carp for Nickel job past 2 years. I don't think bust is the right term for either. But I also think Burnett is ahead of Carpenter talent and production wise, now.

Burnett had a first round grade when he was drafted...many pundits thought he was our best draft pick and several thought he'd be a better LB than Ware...so the different expectations excuse doesn't wash, IMO.

No it is what it is, Carpenter was drafted at 18 and Burnett at 42.

Thats factual and a very tangible difference.

Also note that Burnett has beaten out Carp for Nickel LB role 2 years running.

Please quote pundits that had Burnett rated greater than Ware!:laugh2:

That's interesting...I wonder if someone told Carpenter while he was taking classes at Ohio State two years ago.

...also, saying Burnett has beaten out Carpenter for the nickel backer spot is BS as well. You do recall that Carpenter has actually started some games, don't you?

Your bias here is sticking out like Nicole Simpson at a Mensa meeting.

I didn't say rated better, I said he'd become a better NFL LB than Ware...ask Hostile about the validity of that statement.

Carpenter was not dressing for games most of last year till Ellis Injury and he was inserted at OLB late in season. Burnett was in the mix last year on the field most of the season.

Don't let bias get in way of facts.

You should take your own advise, pal.

Carpenter dressed for 13 games, actually. He was also a rookie learning a new system...Burnett was not. Whom was the player that actually started games last year? OH, that's right, it was Carpenter. Wierd.

I'm not the one being biased here. I like Burnett. I hope he works his way onto the field more. I really do.

You're the one spreading misinformation. You're the one whom is at a loss for facts here, not me.

Burnett last season

38 Tackles
1 sack
1 int
2 forced Fumbles

Thats the facts, I actaually endorsed Carpenter late in season at OLB where he garnered 1 1/2 sacks.

Carpenter played in 13 games last year...Ellis went out week 9...care to do the math?

And Burnett was so good in his very limited play at nickel back that he had 1 PD...Carpenter had 4 in his 2 starts.

...and your point is what?

Burnett's 38 tackles makes Carpenter a bust? Really, what is your problem? You can't possibly be this dense.

Most of Burnett's tackles were on STs as were both his FF.

Burnett was seeing spot duty at nickel LB.

The job was split up between Fowler, Singleton and Burnett but let's not have facts get in the way.;)

Why are you guys debating Burnett and Carpenter? The real debate should be about Bradie James getting abused in coverage just like he did twice in the Colts preseason game. Akin is solid, but Burnett is very fast and explosive.

I would be talking about Carpenter's potential to unseed James. When Carpenter shows he can plug holes against the run just as good or better than James, he should have James' starting job some day soon.

Carpenter has much more upside than Bradie James. He is faster, more athletic, and he can cover in Wade's scheme. He will be a good blitzer from the inside position, and he can be scraped off the edge.

James' physical play in the run game is the only thing he has over Carpenter.

I agree.

These broad sweeping claims of hypocrisy are useless unless you can find examples of poster A saying "Carpenter is a bust" AND "Burnett is becoming a stud." As it is, instead of being clever - the "call-out" thread has just ended up being confusing.

Who the heck is this directed to?

I want names.

Actually nobody but HCF is debating the abilities of the two...the point behind the thread was Carpenter is getting labeled unfairly. I just used the player nearest in draft position, trying to get a set role, that is trying to overcome the same obstacles, and that is a year farther along, who isn't carrying that bust label to make a point.
