In many regards Burnett has outplayed Carp for Nickel job past 2 years. I don't think bust is the right term for either. But I also think Burnett is ahead of Carpenter talent and production wise, now.

2 years ago Burnett was hurt all the time and Carp was at Ohio State.

Get your facts straight.

That's interesting...I wonder if someone told Carpenter while he was taking classes at Ohio State two years ago.

:hammer:

Carpenter was not dressing for games most of last year till Ellis Injury and he was inserted at OLB late in season. Burnett was in the mix last year on the field most of the season.

Don't let bias get in way of facts.

Last year was Burnetts SECOND year and Carp's ROOKIE year.

Yet who started a couple of games, the rookie or second year man?

Actually nobody but HCF is debating the abilities of the two...the point behind the thread was Carpenter is getting labeled unfairly. I just used the player nearest in draft position, trying to get a set role, that is trying to overcome the same obstacles, and that is a year farther along, who isn't carrying that bust label to make a point.

Yeah, I got you. I went back and read it. That is cool.

I know you don't think it; however, if anyone thinks Carpenter is a bust, be patient. Don't worry. He's not even close to being a bust. He needs his confidence. If he is confident, he will rise to the top. The Giants wanted him. There was a reason he was drafted so high. He will get the job done.

The FWST has no clue about Carpenter. Don't listen to Ed Werter, either. Do you think it is a coincidence that Carpenter is being attacked or being called a bust right after Burnett busted out the whoop'in stick? The media is just being their idiot selves. Wade Phillips will jump start his career. Don't worry.

If Carpenter and Burnett can stay healthy, they are not going anywhere. Burnett can run like a deer and he is an explosive playmaker when the chips are down. Trust me about Burnett. He is going to be a dominate player in this defense. Wade will get him on the field. Akin is solid, but he can't run like Burnett, therefore he isn't as good in coverage.

Carpenter can do many things, and he can cover. He can cover, because he can really run. I already mentioned Bradie's cover skills. I don't think Ellis is going to do much. I am not counting on him at all. Look for Carpenter to protect Anthony Spencer by rotating on the outside with him. Spencer should start and play a ton, but you want to be careful with him, especially early in the season. You don't want him getting hurt.

Wade's scheme will not work without two inside guys that can cover. Who do you want covering the shallow flats and intermediate zones? I want Burnett and Carpenter; moreover, I can blitz them when I want to. Both of them can come off the edge or be scraped off the edge and get some pressure on the QB. Their speed, quickness, and athletic ability allows them to do this.
Hopefully, we will get to see both of them on the field at the same time during some games.

Akin is solid. He is a good and consistant player. I see Bradie James as a good run defender and nothing else. James can be solid against the run, but I think offensive coordinators are going to keep going after him just like Manning did in the preseason.
Dallas is trying to protect Roy Williams in deep coverage, and I don't think they can protect James and Williams. Something has to give.

Burnett and Carp are both busts IMO.

Let's hope that Ellis gets healthy and can give this team something or we might have a tough time in the middle of the defense.

???

What does Ellis have to do with the middle of the defense?

I met the LB corps. Dline and secondary should be solid but I'm concerned about the youth and inexperience without a veteran like Ellis.

Does anybody think we should sign another veteran if Ellis isn't healthy?

So we should sign a veteran instead of seeing what our last two FIRST ROUND picks can do?

Please tell me your last name isn't Jones and you've never had a face lift.

I think he's a wannabe Rodney Dangerfield, going by his s/n, and he's succeeding, his jokes are poor

That's OK. I don't particularly foresee your opinion amounting to much around here. No offense.

Ellis in the middle? What?

Oh yeah, even though you smell like a troll...:welcome:

There is a world of difference between the #18 (Carpenter) pick and the #42 (Burnett). They are NEARLY a round apart (#42 was the 10th pick in the 2nd round).

If you don't think so, then take a look at the value difference: 900 for #18, 480 for #42, NEARLY double.

I did wonder how the "he is nearly a first rounder and almost drafted as high as Carpenter" came from then I remembered it was from Blindzebra so that explained everything.

Don't you have some little old lady's purse to steal so you can say no officer I didn't take it, you have to prove I did?

You know.... its like when someone says "I usually never...."

Burnett seems to have a nose for the play.
Carpenter seems to make plays with little playing opportunity.

Man, why is everyone so down on Bobby? Down the stretch he was one of our better defensive football players with the whole house of cards crashing around he seemed to be making plays pretty regularly... if he squeezes that potential INT in the playoff game, he probably starts this season and we go in a different direction at OLB.

My take is I think he needs to physically mature a lil bit more, but he has the tenacity for the game that will make him an above average player in the Vrabel mode. He will be serviceable at very worst. Other first rounders have been far more "busty" than Bobby.

Everyone drafted by Dallas should be in the Pro Bowl by the end of their first season.
