He built a very successful OL that carried the Jets offense to two AFC Championship games with Sanchez at QB. It fell apart in 2011 because they did not replace Damien Woody and he was scapegoated for a horrible job by one of the worst offensive coordinators in the game in Brian Schottenheimer.

I agree, I do think Pollack will benefit from working under Callahan as well as working with these young OL players. They all talk highly of their relationship with Pollack since he was the guy who worked with them hands on day in and day out. I would expect Pollack will continue on with Callahan's routine he puts these guys through.

Coleman is sometimes rated ahead of a guy like Yeldon and Duke Johnson. If taking Coleman in Rd 2 is a reach so would be drafting Yeldon or Duke Johnson.

Coleman is always rated ahead of those guys. He'll be gone by the time our second round pick gets here most likely.

True and then there is the trust of McCray and Marinelli. Cowboys were not hesitant at all on this pick making the call when Carolina was still on the clock. According to the Cowboys they have done a lot of scouting of Byron Jones and when they saw the chance to get him they did. I know some reports people will read will not be rave reviews, that was talked about on the Cowboy broadcast, some teams liked him a lot others not so much.

You're so right. Those doing the scouting and making the decisions for the team have done an overall great job the last few years and I'll trust their judgment over anybody in here. Not every decision/pick is the right one...nobody is perfect (especially at trying to figure out what a player will ultimately turn out to be), but they invest a lot of research time and spend a lot of money to make the most informed decision possible.

I think the fact that when Dallas was making the call with Carolina on the clock and Balt waiting in the wings, seem to me the Cowboys got the guy they really wanted. I can honestly say I have never seen the Cowboys do that. Myself like others here had my own so called pet cats like Malcom Brown and while I hate the fact we had a chance to get him and passed I also understand this is not about what I want it is about what the Cowboys want and know about these prospect and how they see a player fitting into what they want. We all know Mo and Carr are not great in zones, Jones is and while there are things he still needs to work on he is a very bright and hard working player and coming to a team who in my opinion has a very good staff in place to help him at this next level.

Did Bill personally text you that?

Their media said they needed to replace Revis and Wilfork, and that Byron Jones was their hope pick. Neither Dallas or New England expected Jones to drop that far, and I'll bet you they thought Dallas would go Brown or Goldman, so they didn't trade up in front of us. I'll be their kicking themselves because they have secondary issues.

Very well stated...all of it!

Really is stunning how often you ***** about a team that you apparently are a fan of.

We had a saying in the Navy..."a *****in' sailor is a happy sailor"...he probably had an entire career in the Navy. (please don't take personal offense, I'm just playing around):)

I don't have a huge problem with the pick, I am just wary of guys who climb this quickly once the actual football season ends.

A whole lot of players "climb" the board after the season ends. It's funny to go back and look at mock drafts and scouting reports at the end of the season and then look at them now...very different. There are numerous cases of players climbing/dropping, and justifiably so...JMO.

I get that, but this guys rise has been phenomenal.

They went to the NFC Championship game because their defense was allowing a QB Rating of 58.8 in 2009 and 77.7 in 2010 which is incredible. And the reason why they let Callahan go is the O-Line never really developed. Ferguson, Mangold and Moore were all there prior to Callahan. Wayne Hunter was a Callahan-guy and was horrendous and Vlad Ducasse was a bust.

The point was not to say that Callahan isn't a great O-Line coach. It's to say that giving Pollak 1 season with the Raiders...who make the Jets look like the model organization and a high octane offense...and to ignore issues that Callahan had on the O-Line with the Jets is hypocritical. I'm not ready to appoint Pollak as the next great O-Line coach either, but he has been very successful as an assistant O-Line coach and I have the same level of confidence in him with this O-Line as I did with Callahan when he came into Dallas...optimistic, but skeptical.

the reason to draft a CB in round 1 is because he was the best player and the Cowboys haven't really spent any major resources on the position since 2010. 4+ years is a long damned time in the NFL. It was time to spend some resources at the position. Missing on Claiborne made it more necessary but it still would have been close to time to do it anyway. Our CBs could be called average, if you're feeling generous.

Callahan is one of the best in the business when he is committed to only coaching the OL.

I have hopes Frank Pollack that will be fine, but his tenure in Oakland when being the head OL coach was not that great.

He has a ways to go before it can be said he can do a better job than Callahan.

That's great for Callahan that you think he's the best in the business. I trust the players and the coaches currently coaching on this team. No matter how much you and others praise Callahan the more I don't care.

I am confused. We made a bad pick a few years ago and now we have a roster weakness. We therefore draft a player to address that roster weakness, and that makes it a "CYA pick" that we should feel bad about?

Under this tortured logic, isn't every draft pick every team will make this year a "CYA pick?"

Also this thread is hilarious because the alternative thesis would be.... to not acknowledge you made a mistake and compound that mistake by not seeking to correct it.

Which would be dumb.

Very dumb.

Incredibly dumb.

@Alexander are you incredibly dumb?
