This is a good pick, #27 isn't exactly full of elite options. Guy is a workout warrior- that's not exactly a bad thing. But his best football is ahead of him. He's smart, good character, a leader and, most importantly, versatile- can play cb and fs. That's an asset to any secondary. Sound pick, with upside- what you want in a late first rounder.

Good grief...........Clairborn was the 1st draft pick missed on, wont be the last............part of the risk of running a NFL franchise, the idea is to minimize them, and that the Cowboys have moved to well above average the last few years.

I like to complain about it, forever. That shows how committed I am to my realism.

Looking at Jones purely from a physical perspective, calling him a workout warrior is something of a disservice.

He combine performance was one of the best of all time. He's a 3 sigma athlete, only the 5th in the entire league.

Who are the others? Lane Johnson, Evan Mathis, Calvin Johnson, and JJ Watt.

BTW, when you have more "likes" than posts, that's a good sign that you need to post more often.:)

I don't have a huge problem with the pick, I am just wary of guys who climb this quickly once the actual football season ends.

Exactly...and Zach Martin was an obviously good pick before he made the pro bowl his first year. A lot of people on this board dont know why they like and dont like players. Its hilarious.

A lot of people just regurgitate what they hear TV "analysts" thinking that others will think they know what they're talking about. There's a few people on this board that have true, in-depth football knowledge and many others (myself included) that have to trust what others say. The secret is figuring out who to listen to.

Callahan is a loss, there is no sugar coating that. Garrett pretty much ran him off with the way he treated him. However, I agree that the players are great and far enough along. But coaching does matter and we can only hope the new coach is as good as Callahan.

Wow don't really care that much about Callahan. He can and has been replaced. I care more about the players than Callahan. We still have the players and there is no guarantee his replacement can't do a better job.

All this talk of "The two game films I watch of him, it was underthrown balls, he didn't tackle the RB much!". The guy had over 200 tackles in 4 years, QBs throwing his direction had low percentages.

This wasn't all bad throws going his way. Want to know why his highlights are so small? Because he locked down his man, the statistics prove this. I'm not really sure what more you guys want out of a prospect.

Will he pan out in the NFL? I don't know. I'm skeptical of ANY CB coming out of the draft, but this is about as good of a CB prospect there is. Biggest knock is the "stiff hips" and shoulder surgery.

Callahan is one of the best in the business when he is committed to only coaching the OL.

I have hopes Frank Pollack that will be fine, but his tenure in Oakland when being the head OL coach was not that great.

He has a ways to go before it can be said he can do a better job than Callahan.

I think to blow off Callahan and his contribution is a diservice to what a quality coach he is. Am I worried about it...........nope. Do I think that anybody can come in and provide what Callahan did.....................nope. Personally, I think the talent we have trumps just about anything a coach may or may not do.

He will play some FS.

If you watched the press conference, they made it painfully obvious that he would see some time there.

The league is using more safeties with cover abilities now to stop the TE's and the giant WR's. Last year we were using Church, Wilcox and Heath to do that.

Coleman not worth a 2nd rounder. Abdullah, Yeldon and Duke are. Let someone else reach.

Coleman is sometimes rated ahead of a guy like Yeldon and Duke Johnson. If taking Coleman in Rd 2 is a reach so would be drafting Yeldon or Duke Johnson.

He had one year with the Raiders. Callahan had 4 years with the Jets and was more or less ran out of town because the Jets' O-Line was subpar.

Only in the last month or so has Coleman risen in (follish?) people's rankings because of a 40 time. The fact of the matter is, the guy has one dimension- running straightforward through wide gaps, fast. He's not really a talented runner.

True and then there is the trust of McCray and Marinelli. Cowboys were not hesitant at all on this pick making the call when Carolina was still on the clock. According to the Cowboys they have done a lot of scouting of Byron Jones and when they saw the chance to get him they did. I know some reports people will read will not be rave reviews, that was talked about on the Cowboy broadcast, some teams liked him a lot others not so much.

He had one year with the Raiders. Callahan had 4 years with the Jets and was more or less ran out of town because the Jets' O-Line was subpar.

He built a very successful OL that carried the Jets offense to two AFC Championship games with Sanchez at QB. It fell apart in 2011 because they did not replace Damien Woody and he was scapegoated for a horrible job by one of the worst offensive coordinators in the game in Brian Schottenheimer.
