Meh. We still haven't drafted DL in the 1st round since Spencer in 2007 and it's not like our pass rush has been elite every year since then

What's it going to be then, eh?

I didn't hate Jones. Almost liked him but not quite. I think he is a quality #2

He is is the Jonathan Joseph class of CB's IMO

I said it before, if you could choose a CB you could do worse.

But we passed on better players who could have impact, namely Brown, simply to make up for the Claiborne error.

i bet they would have traded back.

Yup. I think so too.
Dallas badly wanted one of the top 4 CB and they were thrilled when Jones fell.

The CB situation is in a real bad way and Jones is arguably the best athlete in this draft.

Malcom is a hoss but Dallas basically says we already have that same guy in Josh Brent. Why would we spend pick 27 on it.
Brent/Hayden is a solid 1/2 and they won't play in nickel(neither would Brown). Mincey or Hardy very likely kick inside so DLaw can play outside.

One thing I liked with guys like Jones, Rowe, & Shaw...is that they'd essentially have to fail at 2 positions to 'bust'. The aforementioned 3 players all had success at both CB & S, and IIRC, all 3 had their instincts noted as positives.

When we were on the clock, I assumed three choices...Jones, Gregory, or Brown.
Brown didn't go until 32 and Gregory didn't go at all, so I doubt Jones was any kind of stretch.

$20 says in 3 years he's unanimously considered the best corner out of this draft.

i tend to agree.

he isn't as polished because he went to uconn and played FS for two years but he can handle the physicality as his 200 tackles suggest and he has off the charts raw athleticism.

if they did want to make him a FS can you imagine how scary it would be for a QB to throw up a deep ball knowing that guy was back there jumping for it?

We had 4 pro bowlers in the secondary, but they all got snubbed because the pro bowl is just a popularity contest. How Byron Jones fits into this logjam of backfield talent is beyond me but I suppose it's a good problem to have.

Superbowl Defense for sure. I don't know why anyone was so worried about Romo going down.

Have you noticed how many choices the Patriots have wasted on defensive backs in recent years?

That is not exactly an endorsement.

The Patriots have, in the last 10 years, used their first draft pick on a DB three times which is exactly how many we have...

Patriots - 2007, Brandon Merriweather, 2009 Patrick Chung, 2010 Devin McCorty
Cowboys - 2008, Mike Jenkins (was actually second pick but I included it since it was 1st round), 2012 Morris Claiborne, 2014 Byron Jones
