Yup, he'll be a corner.
we'll see...

he said in his interview with dc.com that on his visit, he spent most of his time with coach baker installing the defense from the FS position.

you're convinced he sticks at corner? he looks stiff turning out of his breaks in the combine footage.

So did Richard Sherman, Z. That's why he fell to the 5th. If we got 85% of Sherman in Jones, I'd take it all day long.

The Patriots have, in the last 10 years, used their first draft pick on a DB three times which is exactly how many we have...

Patriots - 2007, Brandon Merriweather, 2009 Patrick Chung, 2010 Devin McCorty
Cowboys - 2008, Mike Jenkins (was actually second pick but I included it since it was 1st round), 2012 Morris Claiborne, 2014 Byron Jones

He said choices, not first round picks or first selections.
Dallas didn't use a single 1st or 2nd on any DB between Jenkins in 08 and Mo. And they didn't again from Mo til now.

The Pats used a 2nd in 2008
two 2nds in 2009
1st in 2010
2nd in 2011
2nd in 2012

Looking at Jones purely from a physical perspective, calling him a workout warrior is something of a disservice.

He combine performance was one of the best of all time. He's a 3 sigma athlete, only the 5th in the entire league.

Who are the others? Lane Johnson, Evan Mathis, Calvin Johnson, and JJ Watt.

He's 6'1"/200 lbs and likes to play press coverage. Had 200+ tackles in college. There's nothing about him that says "afraid of contact."

Just looking at the tape it doesn't look like he's a very physical player. If he plays smart enough and puts himself in good positions to make plays then it shouldn't matter. Kinda like Sean Lee... he doesn't make highlight reel big time hits but he's always in the right place at the right time.

He's nothing like McCourty.

Height:
Jones - 6'1"
McCourty - 5'10"

Weight:
Jones - 199 lbs.
McCourty - 193

40-time:
Jones - 4.43
McCourty - 4.48

Broad Jump:
Jones - 147" (12'3")
McCourty - 126" (10'6")

Vertical:
Jones - 44.5
McCourty - 36"

Shuttle:
Jones - 3.94
McCourty - 4.07

3-cone:
Jones - 6.78
McCourty - 6.70

There you have it. Jones > Mcourty. The stats from the combine don't lie folks.

I don't know what to tell you and I don't know what you're watching. I see an incredibly physical corner. One of the most physical in the draft.

I like this pick. Most of you guys hated the Zack Martin pick so there you go

Exactly...and Zach Martin was an obviously good pick before he made the pro bowl his first year. A lot of people on this board dont know why they like and dont like players. Its hilarious.

I think Malcolm ends up a lot better pro than Brent. Thats is a huge reach IMO.

The NFL doesn't agree with you or he'd have been drafted much higher in this soft class.

Josh Brent is an NFL starter and that is a pretty high bar.
Athletically, they are very similar players.

Obviously Malcom seems a heck of a good bet not to derail his own career, but Brent is back now and costs Dallas next to nothing so that's moot.

You aren't going to see this team in this system draft a 310+ pound guy in round 1 unless they play OL no matter how much you want it to happen.

You're way off on this one.

Shaq Thompson went the pick before World Record holder Byron Jones, and Damarius Randle 2 picks later. Dallas got the right DB there in the draft.

Malcom Brown and Byron Jones were the two best non-problem players left on the board.

Texas DT Brown would have been my choice .... but the secondary situation going into 2016 was going to be pretty dire. Byron solves some things down the line, and may lead to a play for Peterson.

Wilcox cost Dallas some big gains in 2014.

Weird to see a complaint thread about this pick. And started by Alexander.

We were widely reported to be targeting CB. It shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that that's where we went, given the way the board broke tonight. Given the player was well regarded at a position of need and on a defense badly in need of a talent infusion, how 'bout we wait to see him play a single snap before we try to diminish anything?

People keep asking for a big ugly early. It's not going to happen.

Since when is Brent an NFL starter? He's started 5 games in 5 seasons.

He's played less than 3 full seasons.
He was a starter when he drove drunk and he is a projected starter today.
At the time he tried to end his career he looked like a future Pro Bowler.
He held up in the hole versus double teams with relative ease and was getting push up the middle on passing downs.

Malcom Brown was a really good collegiate player but he also completely disappeared at times for some of the saddest Longhorn teams of the last 20 years.

Might be best as a 5T DE. Not really strong enough to be a pure NT and not quick enough for a 3T.

I'm also concerned by starting him at corner. Sounds like coaches think he'll be best at FS. Hope this changes with more CBs drafted in 4th round.

Also can someone find number of 30+ yard passes allow we'd last year? Just how bad was the safety play in comparison to rest of league
