Byron Jones Is a complete CYA choice for the Claiborne debacle

Not sure what to think of the Jones pick. To me it looks like he plays pretty tight coverage, is very athletic and can keep up with guys... but it seems like he's afraid of contact. I guess as long as he brings the guy down... but I fear he's gonna get run over trying to make tackles.

Yup. I think so too.
Dallas badly wanted one of the top 4 CB and they were thrilled when Jones fell.

The CB situation is in a real bad way and Jones is arguably the best athlete in this draft.

Malcom is a hoss but Dallas basically says we already have that same guy in Josh Brent. Why would we spend pick 27 on it.
Brent/Hayden is a solid 1/2 and they won't play in nickel(neither would Brown). Mincey or Hardy very likely kick inside so DLaw can play outside.

I think Malcolm ends up a lot better pro than Brent. Thats is a huge reach IMO.

He screams McCourty to me and most of the board wanted him on this team this year so....
He's nothing like McCourty.

Height:
Jones - 6'1"
McCourty - 5'10"

Weight:
Jones - 199 lbs.
McCourty - 193

40-time:
Jones - 4.43
McCourty - 4.48

Broad Jump:
Jones - 147" (12'3")
McCourty - 126" (10'6")

Vertical:
Jones - 44.5
McCourty - 36"

Shuttle:
Jones - 3.94
McCourty - 4.07

3-cone:
Jones - 6.78
McCourty - 6.70

I said it before, if you could choose a CB you could do worse.

But we passed on better players who could have impact, namely Brown, simply to make up for the Claiborne error.

What part of "would only play 1/3 snaps" do you not understand exactly?

Malcolm Brown fits the 1-tech in RM's scheme. He'd be off the field in the nickel - 75-80% of the time. That's not exactly a wasted pick, but it's close. He'll play NT for the Patriots. He'll be an every-down player in their 3/4 scheme.

Sounds like you're saying Marinelli's scheme sucks since it would barely use a quality player.

Hey, if you want to get into a literary pissing match, I'm game. I have a novel coming out this year. But I'd rather keep this to football.

The term "workout warrior" is used to describe unproductive players who excel at the combine, NOT four year, consistent starters who score game winning touchdowns as freshmen.

I read in another thread Jones had 26.3 QB rating against. 4th best in FBS.

He's 6'1"/200 lbs and likes to play press coverage. Had 200+ tackles in college. There's nothing about him that says "afraid of contact."

or he was telling you, I mean Alexander, that its great because a player taken in the 7th can be just as good as one taken in the 1st.

A complete CYA choice for the Claiborne debacle.

Do yourself a favor and ignore the talk he will be some savior at FS.

the wrong choice. should have been malcolm brown. patriots win again.

I would have taken Brown, and while agree that Claiborne was/is a debacle, I think this has more to do with Dallas reportedly not picking up the 5th year option on Claiborne...

BPA was Brown...

So other than the jumping power they are essentially the same is what the numbers are telling me :D

.
you're convinced he sticks at corner? he looks stiff turning out of his breaks in the combine footage.

he is not stiff, people automatically assume that all big corners are stiff hipped.
