I think it's fair to expect more from a first round guy, but he isn't bad and is actually pretty good. As Fuz said, his coverage over the top has been quite good. He has been beaten a few times in man by TE but has also held his own there at other times. To pin the GB play on him isn't very fair, zone coverage isn't easy for 3-4 seconds much less 8-10

He's all right with the potential to get better. He's not a catalytic player but he's not a detriment to the team.

He's good but not great, a few notches above serviceable. I see him getting dragged by TE's so he could work a little on his tackling skills and I'd like to see a few more picks out of him which would improve with a better pass rush so it's not all on him.

B- is my grade for him.

Easy to blow coverage when a QB has 6 plus seconds to throw a ball. but sure, whatever helps you sleep at night. Lets also not forget the huge hold on Irving on that play. That doesnt happen, Rodgers is in the dirt. Keep blaming Byron Jones though. It was ALL him .

Once again look at the tap. Everyone had their man lock down! This doesn't cross my mind when I sleep at night. It grinds my teeth when I think about that game. Every sense that play if I was the Cowboys I would make every attempt to ugrade the safety position.

Upgrade the position based on one play? Good thing you arent the Cowboys.

You think JJ forget stuff like that? Look st what they did to PC after he ran a lazy route in the playoffs that cost a TD. Why do you think Murray didn't get his prize purse after his prolific 2014 campaign? Do you think that fumble in GB played a part? Stop being making excuses for these players and hold them accountable.

Perhaps you should see the all 22...Everyone was in perfect unison in coverage....rolling the zone w/ Rodgers...except for one knucklehead that just happened to have his head in his A** on that play and was just caught dead footed. It only takes one to blow it for everybody...And on that play it was Jones. Funny how he seems to be the guy that just happens to get caught blowing coverages in big situations. But hey...It was only the playoffs....and he's a #1 pick. So he's got some leeway to play with. Enjoy your sleep.

He's not as good as his draft slot in my opinion. He is not the ballhawking guy we really need back there. Serviceable is great and all but we need someone who is dangerous back in the secondary.

he is well regarded around the NFL. A lot on this board expect allpro at every position

I'll settle for not getting burned...I'll say this though. I'd much rather have him @ FS than CB. @ least @ FS...TEs won't shake him as often and he can recover w/ his superior athleticism. If he were to go back to CB...I'd worry WRs would turn him inside out...he just doesn't have the fundamentals of a true CB. His backpeddle is non-existant.

Here's some of sturm's comments on Byron Jones. He thinks that the cowboys should/might consider moving him to another position.

Byron Jones has had 1 interception in 2 full seasons and that was on an end of half hail mary. He was destroyed by Jordan Reed for 89 catches and a gazillion yards. The only reason people call him "solid" is because he hasn't been the biggest bonehead on the field yet. WAY overrated. Few passes defended. Almost nil in takeaways with alot of chances. Sorry but he is mediocre at the very best.

There's a lot that goes into being "well regarded" around the league, and with analysts especially, a lot of it doesnt have to do with football. He's a clean cut, likeable young man. Now football wise and actual production he's as bad a pick as Claiborne was. And just like Claiborne he's going to be "one year away" in the eyes of homers here until we get rid of him.

It was on Bryon Jones go back and watch the film. There is no way a player gets that open on that kind of play unless someone blows coverage. Stop giving Aaron Rodgers so much credit as if he made that play out of nothing. The truth is AR recognize the hole Jones left and attack it. Just admit the fact our secondary blew coverage.
Garrett said Jones played it as coached. He implied that the play would not have developed that way if other players had played to the scheme.
