I'm about to watch the first episode of GOT now.

I watched a little bit of The Borgias today, don't know if I can get into it. I forgot I had Sons of Anarchy, so I started watching a little bit of that instead.

Yeah, that was about as good as you can get for a first episode. Pure awesomeness.

Just finished watching the first episode of AGOT.

I thought it was pretty good. It did a great job of teasing the viewers with concepts to keep things interesting.

During the opening credits, I noticed that the map highlighted Pentos, King's Landing and Winterfell. I wonder if the map will highlight other locations as the plot shifts to those locations?

It sure will(regarding the map). In theory this will be the worst episode. The books don't get going until that final scene in the first episode. And reviewers who were sent the first six episodes say that the last couple are the best..and that's the middle of the season/book. Second half of the book was better than the first half. Second book better than the first..Third book best book of all time..IMO. ;)

Biggest problem I have so far is that it is moving pretty fast. I wish there were going to be more episodes so they could take the time to dwell just a little bit on what is going on or being set up. Then there's the acting which is hit and miss for me. Some seem to be spot on and giving it their all, a few seem very stiff and like they're reading a script in their head as opposed to being the character saying the line. Dinklage was great, as was Bean. Viserys got the whiny part down, but otherwise seemed wooden, and Sansa seemed mostly awful. I'm not sure how I feel about their ages all being higher than they are in the books, Caetlyn seems to stand out the most in this regard as she seems about 50 instead of mid 30's.

I didn't care for the changes made to the prologue as I felt they weakened the impact, and didn't like that they showed the guy make a repeated point for the men to get on their horses, and then they never do and are on their feet in the next shot. Seemed a little odd.

Otherwise it showed a lot of potential to be very good, and it should be considering the source material. I'll be hoping they get it right and are able to continue the series through all the books (and hoping the last few books get done in time). Any ideas of what they'll do with the title if they go to more seasons?

Yeah. I'm hooked. Game of Thrones was pretty cool. And since my mother-in-law went to school with the dwarf's mom (seriously), I'm practically a part of the show. :laugh2:

Not sure if the Series name will change as they cover each book. They could either hyphen each season (ie A Game of Thrones - A Clash of Kings) or do like Spartacus.

I don't the the youngest Stark has been shown yet. I am sure he will be in the series because Jon told Ned that there were 5 direwolfs for 5 Starks. But I don't even think the youngest child was even standing in line when greeting the king upon his arrival.

I'm more excited about seeing all the different parts of the country.

Heh. I noticed that too and was mildly irritated.

What bothered me more than the truncated opening was that they cut out ALL of the dialogue between Jaime and Cersei that Bran overhears before he's thrown from the tower. What he heard was a pretty big thread in Book 1...but now that I think about it, that thread was never taken up again in the books so I suppose it wasn't very important. (unless it's taken up in book 4, which I've been avoiding reading but will get to this week).

Outstanding is all I can say.

My only real problem was in the prologue. The Others in the show gave an entirely different feeling than they did in the book.

In the book they came off more as Silent, mysterious, and spooky. In the show they seemed a bit barbaric/monsterish.

In the book they didn't chase anyone down, nor did they chop up the bodies of the wildlings and lay the pieces out in some odd display.

Just nitpicking though. The episode was fantastic.

All 3 Lannisters are pretty much 100% spot on from how I imagined the. Peter Dinklage is going to steal the show.

He is standing next to Cat when the king arrives. That is the only time I saw him.

Catelyn is the worst cast character in the show IMO. She should have been younger and better looking. I could have seen Lena Heady being Cat and someone else playing Cersei.

the Others are the White Walkers that they were referring to at the first of the show. They haven't been seen in thousands of years. They are the reason the Wall was built, to keep them in the North. They are just now starting to reappear. The Wildlings are just wild people who live north of the wall.

So they are a race of people?

Well, they are a race of creatures. I don't know if you would call them people. When they kill people they can bring the back as "zombies" to fight for them.

Yeah I'm with ya. Don't know that I've ever even heard of the books, and it was kind of hard to pick up on the the characters' names and how they were all related, who they were, etc.

Yeah, it's complicated. The good news for you, though, is [small spoiler, I suppose] that you can forget about the Others and Wildlings for a couple seasons. I was actually surprised they had the prologue (even though it is in the book) for that reason.

For someone who hasn't read the books (and possibly never will), the pacing seemed perfect to me. I was prepared to have my ADD kick in if they got bogged down in too much detail since I understand it can get quite complex in the books. But it moved along at a very nice pace, resting just enough to let things sink in but keeping the story moving without too much explanation and dialogue.

That's the only issue I had. I can't understand their names at times, but that's just because they're complicated names. It might have been helpful to flash a name across the screen when introduced, like they do with the various locales. That might have been too much, though.

I agree.

Similar to Deadwood, I wish I could watch AGOT with subtitles.

I have read all the books but I still don't know who all the characters are just yet. Since I have the episode on my PC, I may just go back and watch parts of the episode again.

I am going to assume that one of the men that was getting a haircut with Jon Snow was Theon? I think he was the same one that was saying it was fitting for Jon to take the runt of the direwolf litter.

I think there will only be about 9-10 episodes, so things have to move fast if they are going to cover a book per season. Besides, it is impossible to put all the little details of the book into a movie or tv series.

I am a little underwhelmed by Cersei's character. I don't think the actress that plays her is unattractive but based on the book, this woman's beauty is on par with that of a goddess. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
