Can Newman Stick with Moss?

I've double checked the Bills roster a half dozen times and can't find a Moss on it.

I am a little concerned about Newman on Lee Evans though. Evans is due for a big game.

Moss is harder to cover because of his speed and vertical leap.

He gets down field very very fast and can out jump anyone.

TO is more of a YAC guy. He is better with the ball in his hands.

Its easier for Moss to beat double coverage than it is TO.

Well, garsh, there is really no excuse for him not leading the league in yards and touchdowns every year then, is there?

There really isn't.

If he wasn't an idiot he'd own every receiving record ever.

I'd rather face Jerry Rice on his best day than face Moss on his best day.

The excuse is playing for Oakland.

So, you are irritated that we are talking about a matchup in 2 weeks? This is not a viable question? This has nothing to do with overlooking anybody but how our team is going to defend a player that has yet to be defended this year in the NFL!

Newman can probably run with Moss on the deep ball, but when the Patriots are in the redzone, I don't think he can out jump Moss on the lob. That first TD catch by Moss yesterday against the Bengals was almost undefendable. That guy is amazing. Not only did he make an outstanding catch, he knew to get both feet down. Moss is just going to out jump many corners expecially a 5'10 or 5'11 Newman.

Newman ran a 4.37 40 when drafted, Moss ran a 4.25. Of course Moss probably doesn't run a 4.25 after 10 years in the league, but he hasn't lost much of it. If anything, they are probably about the same now. (4.3x speed)

Newmans better than Kevin Smith.

Newmans been shutting down the leagues best receivers week in week out with basically no pass rush for years.

I disagree. Before Kevin Smith's injury he dominated Jerry Rice like no other.

Kevin Smith was never as consistent as Newman at any point in his career.

He was a good player though but I can only imagine how well Newman would have been on that team.

Plus I think Newman is one of our top 2 players on this team right now. I dont think Kevin Smith would be one of the top 2 players on this team currently.

I've got to laugh at the notion that we should have Watkins anywhere near Moss in the red zone, simply because he's tall.

From what we've seen, the kid has no location skills. Moss would turn him around so bad we'd be begging them to stick Roy over there. Just say no to overrating height.

It sounds good on paper though.

Speaking of Kevin Smith, I remember Moss getting a swing pass (his rookie year with the Vikings) and juked Kevin and proceeded to run like 60 yards to the end zone. Granted this was an older Kevin Smith, but Moss went crazy against us that game. I think after that game there were a lot of "should have drafted Moss instead of Ellis."

After Smith tore his achilles in 1995, he was never anything more than average. Before that injury he was the best in the league.

You are confusing Kevin Smith post his 1995 injury rather than pre-1995 injury.

I disagree. If there is a jump ball in the end zone. I think without question you want Watkins back there.

I would agree as long as you have the CB under and Watkins over the top. One on one in the endzone Moss would eat him alive.

And watch Moss run a quick slant for a TD.

I'll take my chances with Newman.

Also Newman can get up. He can dunk a basketball so he can get up a ways.

Im sure Watkins can too but unless its a jump ball he'll probably get owned.

If Newman is to be manned up against anyone, I want it to be Wes Welker, even in the nickel and if Welker lines up outside.

The rest of the time, they'll probably just play sides. Stallworth and Moss can both run, so it doesn't matter which receiver Newman is on... he'll be running with a fast receiver all day.

Sure. His height will help enormously when he's too scared to turn and look at the QB and he's got his face stuck in Moss's stomach. Maybe he can give Moss a hernia checkup, because it's unlikely that someone with such outrageously poor ball location skills will do anything to stop such a talented receiver.

We've seen Watkins play jump balls in the end zone. Or, I should say, we've seen Watkins stand helplessly by on jump balls in the end zone.

You put your corner on Moss in the end zone. Not some hapless safety, just because he's tall.

I'd Put Newman on the other WR by himself and double Moss.

Henry is big/strong enough to jam Moss so I hope he can play.

Thats what I would do

Henry vs. Stallworth worries me

Nobody can cover Moss on every play . He'll get his , and all you can do is hope to limit it . Put Newman man up with Stallworth and double Moss . The key for Dallas will be pretty simple . They must not turn the ball over and give Brady additional opportunities , they must tackle well and not allow Moss and Stallworth yards after the catch , and they must put pressure on Brady .

Without a pass rush most number 1 WR(s) can’t be covered by number 1 CB(s).

It we are able to rush Tom, do a good job on tendencies (film work), and take away the routes he likes to run, our defense is good enough to make Randy a non-factor. But let’s take care of the Bills first.
