Pre-injury Kevin Smith was on par with Newman at his best. Both great corners. We can only imagine what a combination of a healthy Smith and Sanders would have been like. Dallas has had some great CBs, Walls is my favorite.

As far as guarding Moss, one thing I hated during the later Deion years was that Campo would put often Deion on the opponents #2 WR and double their #1. Why not the other way around? It certainly didn't work very well.

And watch Moss run a quick slant for a TD.

I'll take my chances with Newman.

Also Newman can get up. He can dunk a basketball so he can get up a ways.

Im sure Watkins can too but unless its a jump ball he'll probably get owned.

Newman has ups, but it doesn't matter when it's a quick pass over the top. Randy is already 6'4 and has a shorter distance to jump (thus quicker) to get to the high ball.

I watched that last TD by Moss yesterday. I was watching were Moss was lining up (reason is b/c I have Moss on my fantasy squad). He lined up in the slot and right there I saw a mismatch b/c there was no safety help behind the corner in the slot. You could tell right there Brady was going to hit him for a TD.

Is Moss really THAT much better than Owens? Reason I ask is because Owens is a great WR but he can still be covered. If Moss is uncoverable then he must be a quantum leap better than TO. While that may be the case I've always thought they were on a par with each other.

They have two different styles. TO is a possession guy that uses his body to shield defenders. Moss is a speed guy who out leaps defenders to make the play. TO is great after the catch, Moss is great at making the catch. Moss is the reason that Daunte Culpepper ever looked good, because he would just chuck the ball into double coverage and Moss would go up and get it for him.

Makes sense when broken down like that. Kudos.

The ONLY way to defend Moss is to get to Brady...make the pretty boy hurt...make him think twice about sitting in the pocket.

Sure. His height will help enormously when he's too scared to turn and look at the QB and he's got his face stuck in Moss's stomach. Maybe he can give Moss a hernia checkup, because it's unlikely that someone with such outrageously poor ball location skills will do anything to stop such a talented receiver.

We've seen Watkins play jump balls in the end zone. Or, I should say, we've seen Watkins stand helplessly by on jump balls in the end zone.

You put your corner on Moss in the end zone. Not some hapless safety, just because he's tall.

***? Who is hell would have a safety cover Moss one on one? I said, on a jump ball in the end zone, I would have Watkins playing safety. His height alone would help protect against jump balls. Did you see Moss' TD last night? That CB had no chance because it was a jump ball and Moss out jumped him and the CB had to know the ball was coming which cause him to delay his reaction. (jump late) If the CB is covering underneath and a safety is covering over the top, I want that safety to be Watkins because of his height and jumping ability to at least somewhat compete with Moss. Roy Williams and Ken Hamlin would get owned.

Put tnew on Moss and have TNEW live in Moss's shirt the whole game. Moss will get frustrated and the like the spoiled little boy he still is will lash out and get penalties and make mistakes.

We must have a better pass rush, without it, it doesn't matter how good your DBs are, Brady-Moss combo will embarrass the defense. We have got to rush Brady, knock him down. He was way too comfortable in the pocket against the Bengals and he just picked them apart.

I agree. It starts up front and Dallas has to harass Brady consistently.

Dallas will not isolate Newman on Moss-- it won't happen. Dallas doesn't do that with their corners.

The Pats run a lot of timing routes just like the Cowboys. I think to some extent you have to be physical with Moss off the line.

New Englands seems to run a lot of spread formations. Dallas may want to open up with a 4-2-5. Get Ellis/Spencer/Ware on the field at the same time. I don't think NE's offensive line is as good as it has been in the past.

The safeties are going to need to supply some born jarring hits. If there is a game that Roy needs to be an intimidator it's this one.

I've double checked the Bills roster a half dozen times and can't find a Moss on it.

I am a little concerned about Newman on Lee Evans though. Evans is due for a big game.

Consistantly, you seem to voice my opinion before I can do it myself.

I don't know if thats a real good thing for you there Stan.

While I like Newman and think he is great. He isn't as good as say Kevin Smith (shut Jerry Rice down in his prime) was back in the early 90s for the Cowboys. That said, there are times when I would leave him one on one with Moss.
i loved kevin smith, but there is no way Kevin was better than Newman, lol.

Would you prefer Roy?

Watkins is probably a decent matchup with Moss...as far as physical tools anyways.

In that situation, your corner is going to be 1 on 1, every time, unless you line up your safety directly over Moss. In which case the middle is wide open.

In any case, you responded to my post about how foolish it would be to have Watkins covering Moss. If you agreed, then there was no need for your statement - you just misread.

Wow, some funny stuff in this thread. :)

Some random thoughts:

-- Newman did great on T.O. when we finally matched him up on him. Like someone said, is Moss *that* much better than T.O.? No.

-- It seems to me that many Cowboys fans are scarred for life regarding Moss based on what he did six or seven years ago when he was at his peak and beating guys like Izell Reese and Kareem Larrimore and the other garbage defenses we threw out there at that time.

-- Does *anyone* remember when we played the Raiders a couple years ago and Newman walked down Moss even thouugh he had a 10-yard head start? (And where's that clip -- I couldn't find it on Youtube.)

-- But oh well, like I was saying, I don't think Newman is even close to 100% right now anyway. So we might not match him up anyway.

-- It'll be interesting to see how we even play Moss. I doubt we man up on him very much. But I can't wait to see if we pressure Brady or if we play coverage. We might try to just play everything over the top since Moss isn't much of an after-the-catch runner like T.O. is.

-- We could totally shut down Moss, but Welker and Stallworth could get us. Or even more worse, guys like Ben Watson. Anyone want to see Bradie James covering a guy as fast as Watson? :(

-- Agree with Mike that Roy needs to lay some hits out there. Stallworth and Moss can be soft.

-- Whatever we do, I think Wade will have a good plan. He played Brady pretty well last year.
