Would anyone be surprised if Tyson Thompson was the starting RB for the Cowboys in '05?
I would be surprised, but it would all depend on the scenario to know if this would be a good thing.
scenario 1: Tyson Thompson wows Parcells with his brilliance and skills, becoming the ultimate diamond in the rough. The guys is so skilled that he is a home run threat to break a 50+ yarder every time he touches the ball, and defenses must configure their game plan specifically for him. Parcells has no choice but to start the future hall of famer.
This would be good.
Chances of this happening: 1:1,000,000
scenario 2: Julius Jones suffers an injury( God forbid, but for the sake of me being a homer, it was only a minor injury that sidelines JJ for 2 weeks) and the A-train stinks it up to the point that he is yanked like George was last year. Barber has a problem holding on to the ball and gets pulled, leaving Thompson as the only reliable ball carrier until JJ heals.
This would be very bad.
Chances of this happening: 1:100,000
scenario 3: It is the first preseason game, and Parcells decides to sit out JJ and Thomas for precautionary reasons. As the game starts, Barber cannot locate his left shoe and must return to the locker room, thus making Thompson the starting RB.
This would be pretty embarrassing. and bad.
Chances of this happening: 1:1,000
