the scenario is laughable. julius would have to suffer a catastrophic injury - and even then A-train or barber will be next in line.

thompsons best bet to stay with the team is to be a special teams demon or sneak onto the practice squad.

with our new-found depth at RB... he's facing a serious pinch.

I think Merrit might start too.

I can just see it now. Dallas Cowboys 2005 - Practice Squad Edition!

QB-Patrick Crayton
RB-Tyson Thompson
FB-Thompson is so good, he doesn't need a FB!
WR-Merrit, Z. Smith
TE-Curtis, Ratliff
OL-Vollers, Noll, Walter, Gurode, Pettetti

Yup. Strikes fear into the heart of the opponets.

hell yeah it's possible people here are just too prejudiced to see correct. Remember Brady supplanting Bledsoe the number one pick. Brady a 5th or 7 rounder or whatever now among the top five in the league and multiple Super Bowl Champion (ahem.... peyton manning). Beat out number one overall. Probably Witten wouldn't even be the star he is now if Campbell didnt go down because Parcells dont like rookies.

Just think back in the history of football and other sports and you see it is a possiblily albeit not that great. So to say undeniably "no" is just plain stupid and ignorant.

Also Michael Jordan didnt make the jv basketball team. :laugh2:

From all accounts from those at camp... Thompson is a definite talent and he has caught the eye of coaches...

BUT... I will go back to the old board in which I stated that Julius is a RB to watch...

He had a freak injury last year... Cowboy fans have NO idea how electrifying this kid will be...

I certainly like the intangibles that Thompson offers... but he can't touch Julius at this point... Julius is a natural...

Now if the day comes that Thompson can outright win this position... I will have no problems whatsoever with Julius fading into the sunset (Q fans take note)... ;)

Until he actually does something in a game, I doubt he could beat out Troy Hambrick. This guy might not even make the team...

I know it’s still early in TC and he (Thompson) still has to make the team but from every report and eyewitness observations it seems as though he can not only compete at this level but also excel.

I'm sure most would agree that unlike other skill positions, running back isn't a position that you "groom" someone for, either you have it or don't. Historically the leagues best RB's, Payton, Dickerson, Brown, Smith, and Sanders where good to go from the beginning.

Would anyone be surprised if Tyson Thompson was the starting RB for the Cowboys in '05?

I imagine you have been ripped on enough for this question so I will say I just see no way this would happen.

WAIT...if all of the RBs except T was getting their pictures taken in a group photo and somehow it was wet in the area and the cables were under the players. When the camera man takes the picture it somehow electrocutes all of the RBs and T is the only RB left alive on the Cowboys roster.....then he MIGHT be named starter.

(above scenario lifted from the movie King Ralph lol)

The saying goes "There are no stupid questions". This is a stupid question.

Very True
Why are threads and questions like this allowed.
I do not post here that often, but have been reading for a very long time, even before it changed formats and needed to register again.
And have always been amazed at some of the questions / threads. But that is OK, if I don't like it, I don't read it, to each their own questions. I do not judge. Just read, comment or ignore. But this one I had to respond to.

But this is still the best place for info and a great group of fans. Kudos for the members of this site.

I love training camp!!!

It's the only time of the year that we the fans live in this wonderful "Alice in Wonderland" like world where every player is great, all the vets worked harder than ever and are going to be in the best shape of their lives and all the rookies are going to be better than the greatest players who have ever played their positions. It's fun, I tell you! Just enjoy it!! :)

I'm not sure I would have signed my name to this idea. That like saying that Sherman Williams had a chance to take Emmitt Smith's starting job in 1993. By the way, Emmitt will be forever immortalized in the Hall of Fame. Sherman Williams will be forever incarcerrted in the halls of the state pen.

OMG. Relax. The guy asked a question. I am positive most of the posters flogging this guy have made at least one post that others thought were wrong. Back down... It's a friggin forum. The whole point is to air your thoughts. There have been many cases of players being 1st round busts, 2nd round busts, and even one year wonders. The question he posted may not mirror your hopes and dreams, but it deserves more respect than you are giving it.

All I wanted was a little feedback, a few well though out opinions from some of the respected members of this forum and you would think that I asked to appeal the constitution of the United States of America.

Hopefully this forum doesn’t turn into another disaster like many of us have migrated from in the first place.

IT WAS JUST A QUESTION

You asked a question and got blasted because of it. Your asking a silly question is okay, but getting blasted for it is not? Freedom of speech is freedom of speech.

What did you expect? Praise for your "out of the box" thinking? Please.
