I think it's always important to remember that we, as fans, only see a very very small portion of what the front office sees. We're only privileged to see such a small amount of truly valuable content beyond the games on Sunday.
And what we do see, comes from generally poor media coverage.
Point being, while cutting a guy like Patmon and keeping a guy like Street might not make any sense on the surface, we really don't know the whole story. And likely never will.
Very true, but people see one bad play, or a player doesn't make every play, but yet get constantly hated on, or called a bum, or the over and often misused stupid term JAG.
Dez drops a pass, oh he is having a bad game. Because we know he will have 25 times more chances to make up for it. And usually makes the catch, escape this last game.
Street drops a pass, oh, he sucks, as he wont see another pass for 50 more plays. He makes a catch, then it's, wow, amazed he caught it. He gets another pass 3 games later, oh amazed he caught it. Catches 5 more passes that goes basically unnoticed. Drops one, oh he sucks.
That is the nature of the fans. And most always need a player or 5 to hate.
I don't like particular players at times, but don't hate them. I think Wilber should have been replaced. But I don't say he sucks every play he misses a tackle on.
But the coaches know more, as you said, that we do not see, much more.
