I didn't watch all of it, we made it out without injuries, correct?

There were many positives in tonight's game, including McGee, Butler, Hurd, Buehler, Costa, and Sean Lee, who was very active.

I'm still not impressed with much of the Cowboys' line depth. I had hoped Holland might challenge Davis, but Holland's performance in the last two games has been very poor. The time may have come to cut bait with him. Barron has also been unimpressive.

Buehler was 4 for 4 with the game winner.

McGee was great, marching the team down the field and using great clock management. He throws a pretty deep ball.

Butler was unstoppable and Lee made some nice plays. We are stacked at LB.

The running game came to life in the second half.

Hurd and Holley looked really good out there. Can Johnson be placed on the practice squad again? He's worth keeping around. Ogletree was hit and miss, but I think he's better than the guys I just mentioned.

Rucker only had the one play, but he is very athletic. Reminded of me of Marty B.

Gronkowski is a powerful runner. I'm not sure if his blocking is as good as Anderson's, but he looked really good tonight. An interesting decision will be made at FB.

I know it was just second string, but the O-line held up for the most part. McGee was upright most of the second half. Even in the first half, they didn't fare too poorly against Miami's starters.

McBriar is money. We will have great field position with him and Buehler doing their thing.

All in all, it was a successful night.

Edit: Oh yeah, NO INJURIES!!! A good good night.

I was taking a class tonight and missed all but the last drive when Beuler nailed it(and that wwas on the tracker on nfl.com)...who looked good? who's on the bubble? I saw McGee's stats and was impressed and I saw KO made alot of catches...

Have to agree 100%...very solid showing, especially considering they played their starters on both sides for quite some time.

Buehler was already a huge weapon on kickoffs, I think he's showed during the preseason (and especially tonight) that he can be a bigtime PK.

Loved McGee's game. He looked really solid, even against the Miami starters. Imagine what he'll look like in another year, and imagine what he'd look like playing with our better players. He still has some things to work on, but the talent is obvious.

Anyone else notice that backup offensive line settle down and start to play better as the game went along?

He still needs to go, but I thought McQuistan did a heckuva lot better job at RT than he ever did at guard.

Very happy with tonight. It was a fun game to watch. I want Gronk on the roster. Der Buehler solidified his spot.

McGee just needed that one break through play to shake off the nerves and he got it. Once he had the touchdown to Hurd, it was like watching a totally different quarterback. He was comfortable and had command. I've always been a supporter of him, but now I am convinced he can be something down the road.

Agreed. Unfortunately, we may have to keep Barron because Brewster looks even worse at LT. RT may be Brewster's position because he looks commendable there.

To be fair, Barron moves well. I just think he lacks it up there.

McGee, Buehler, Butler were all outstanding. Lee got 2 sacks. AOA got a pick and looks very smooth fielding kicks/punts, even though he didnt break any tonight. Hurd had a really good game. Lissmore was pretty active. I thought Jason Williams looked pretty good, even though he got a PI for not getting turned around. Had great coverage and the ball was not catchaable for the receiver.

McCann was really bad. Wall looked decent.

Agreed. He started stoning people when he moved outside. But his time may be up, because Brewster and Sam Young look good at RT too.

No way you can cut McGee now. Just drop all that talk.

Kicking game is just fine.

Ogletree came back a little but he still made some small mistakes. I think he will be fine.

Butler may be becoming a beast. He somehow needs to be on the field a decent amount.

That is exactly what happened. He wasn't running for his life and look at the results.

I am too. I think if he continues his development, we may end up with Romo's successor, or perhaps somebody throws some premium pick/picks our way to obtain him. This was his first full training camp, and he has made a ton of progress. He throws the ball very well and makes good decisions.

McGee and Buehler really shined tonight.

Some of Costa's snaps were low in the shotgun, but I liked what I saw from him too.

Our second and third teamers looked sharp and disciplined. (Notice that doesn't include Montrae Freaking Holland.) We were organized and efficient for the most part.

We looked better than they did, which is outstanding considering much of the first half was our backups against their starters.

Basically, we showed that so much of the garbage being spewed about this team all week was just that: Garbage.

what a way to end the preseason. i have to say i was really into this game watching some of these young guys.

got some good and bad things out of it but some question marks going in i'm more confident in for sure.

first off, can we please stop this talk about McGee maybe not making this team? i didn't believe for a second even before this game that he would not be on the team, but tonight was icing on the cake.

these last 2 weeks he has looked totally different than the previous 3 games. i don't know if the light just went on, or if his confidence just showed up or what?

but he looked like he has the capability to be an NFL quarterback tonight. really good game management, nice throws, nice decision making. overall a very solid night. and obviously the TD to Hurd was beautifully thrown

secondly, i've been a believer in Buehler, hoping to see him attempt some field goals during these games....well we got our wish tonight, and boy did he ever step up! 4 for 4, 3 of them over 40 yards, and the last being the game winner. what a night tonight?! and that 51 yarder would've been good from 65 (speculation)

my last general observation is a bad one, the backup CBs, yikes.

not sure what was happening but McCann and Gordon were both abused tonight quite a bit, not a good showing at all.

now for some other random observations from the game:

i think overall our 2nd team going against their 1st did a respectable job on both offense and defense.

Butler i thought was a real force tonight and was abusing their tackles

still concerned about our up front run blocking, Choice was not given much room at all.

he did a good job on a screen, with a nice block from Hurd and Holley

i didn't watch the o-line closely on first view, but i saw McQuistan get beat BADLY

i thought AOA had a good game tonight overall. needs some better cleats b/c he was slipping bad on his returns. i really was impressed when he got clotheslined and held onto the ball.

the interception was another nice play by him

another defensive player i noticed was Hamlin, he was mediocre last week but i thought he was active this week and made some plays. he could've had a pick on one play but still did a nice job of breaking up the pass.

i thought our punt coverage units were doing really well tonight, didn't allow much

i think Sean Lee bounced back after last week. he got a sack, fumble recovery. loved the acceleration and burst when he took down Thigpen in the open field.

i did see one play where he went inside and lost contain when the runner broke outside, but that can be solved with experience

just on a side note with him, i really look forward to seeing him after a year or two working with Jurasek.

last random observation: maybe it's just me, but i love what i'm calling the bowling ball runs with Gronkowski up the middle.

so now we are ready to cut down to 53, boy some tough decisions i think this year for the coaches, i don't envy them.

i think i have some guys who could end up on the practice squad if not picked up by someone:

Lonyae Miller, Manny Johnson, Bryan McCann, Teddy Williams, Sean Lissemore, Holley (if cut), Herb Donaldson (if 2 runners kept), either Sam Young or one of the other young OT (if they cut Young)

that's all i can come up with right now. probably another O-lineman in there somewhere or another skill position

i really think the WR position will be interesting to watch with all these trade and cuts speculations.

that does it for my Phoenician perspective of the preseason.

i can't wait for the deadskins!
