When you have a small sample size having a large outlier greatly skews the stats so it is an extremely valid method.

When the outlier isn't within normal variance. Noise can produce aberrations but this isn't noise. Big plays are a normal and consistent part of RB play.

How do we know this? Because all RB have such 'outliers' and experience similar reductions in performance when they are removed.

When the discussion is about finding a grinder back to carry the load it sure as hell makes a difference.

You have RB A who has 10 runs of: 4, 5, 4, 6, 4, 5, 4, 6, 4, 5 getting you 4.7 YPC
RB B has 10 runs of 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 47 getting you 4.7 YPC

Which back is really better for a consistent running game?

Find actual examples instead of conveniently set up sets.

Well, if you take away Randle's 2 biggest runs last season, he's at 238/49 for a 4.8 ypc avg. (down from 6.7 ypc)

Big plays are a normal and consistent part of RB play.

Except when your initials are D.M. :muttley:

I think some of us are getting a bit little worked up over an innocent "what if" thread. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Christine Michael is better than all of our current backs (well... except maybe one person lol). But if the opportunity came to bring someone in for a look if we need more healthy RB help later on, he could be available.

It is monumentally funny that those saying all we have are has-been and unproven runners are pulling for us to trade for an unproven runner less productive than Randle.

Yeah I'm not sure about the trade thing. Especially since it seems likely that he will be cut by the end of camp anyway.

Well the team already traded next years 6th and I don't think I would give up a 5th. If Seattle takes next years 7th I'm ok with just about any move. Its unlikely Rawls and Michael make the roster so go after them if they're cut. If Rawls is cut, there's a good chance the Cowboys go after him seeing as they were supposedly very close to landing him after the draft.

I just have to laugh.

If Michael - DMC, Randle, Dunbar and Williams all got cut on the same day I guarantee you that Michael would be the first one picked up. Randle MAY get picked up. DMC and Dunbar would be waiting patiently for someone to get hurt to find a team, if ever.

That's the reality of our RB situation. Can we win? Yes, but it won't be pretty. And I have a gut feeling that Garrett won't be patient with it.

I virtually guarantee that there will be another RB added to this roster before the season starts and that RB will be our "starter".

And I am laughing at this post. So a guy that has done nothing...I repeat...nothing is a lock to be picked up? Riiiiiiiiggggghhhttt.

that's worth book-marking..

Hey, if you're so sure of this, I'd take 5-1 odds if you'll give them.
I give you 20 if they have a new starter before the season starts, you give me 100 if they don't?:D

I find it amusing that your math is actually correct. Outliers on his YPC would be anything less than -7 YPC(lowest he had was -6) and anything higher than 16 ypc - which he he had two carries go for more.. 18 and 45. Effectively his YPC when outliers are removed is 3.88 YPC. Too lazy to do the same for the underwear thief but I'd still send a low draft pick for him if they are essentially going to cut him.

He was drafted ahead of Randle and is still only 24 with no tread on his tires.

He doesn't have the injuries that RWilliams and DMC have.

You might not have heard of him but he had a productive career at Texas AM and even had a 230 yd 3TD game at JerryWorld.

SEA probably overdrafted the RB position with Lynch, Turbin and Michael. It happens but it doesn't mean Michael is worthless. Remember when Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre and Tony Romo were backups.

What has DMC done in the last 3 or 4 years? And how many teams were scrambling around to pick him up?

What has Randle or Dunbar done? Won the all preseason hype award? Williams? Probably our best option talent wise, but he's already nursing a swollen knee.

They apparently really like the undrafted dude they took away from us.

From today's news...

Seahawks UDFA RB Thomas Rawls has emerged as the rookie the coaches love.
Per ESPN, coach Pete Carroll "loves Rawls’ toughness, seeing him as a bruising runner similar to (Marshawn) Lynch." It's the same things we saw on Rawls as he ran extremely physical, aggressive and angry at Central Michigan. There's speculation he could push Christine Michael off the roster in Seattle, meaning he needs to be on deeper Dynasty benches. Lynch is 29 years old and Robert Turbin is ticketed for 2016 free agency.

If teh dude was a street FA all for competition but trading a pick for their "Dunbar"(3rd running back to see the field not skill set wise)
