As long as the brass sees the rebuild defense-oriented for the next 2-3 years, I'm good with that, too, G. It's just that, after going 13-3, I realllllly want to compete. And our fatal flaw is D

Haha yeah I do too, but I also think cutting some of the dead weight on defense we've been clinging on to out of desperation is the smarter move. Really, the only guy I want brought back is Carr and that's just to bridge.

They'll extend Martin and Collins next year, target their #2 WR this year probably, rest will be heavy defense. Hopefully Jaylon can play and some guys on the DL step up, other then that it's going to be a bunch of young dudes.

I'm full on board for drafting BPA this year, hitting on some good defensive guys, and letting them play this year. If we were actually REALLY close, I'd say yeah Church/McClain would be worth keeping, but this defense isn't a Barry Church away. In fact, we can actually improve there.

We'll still be competitive, the offense are a bunch of winning dudes. Dak, Zeke, this OL, Dez, Witten, that alone will keep us competitive. Add some good, HEALTHY, talent on defense this year in an incredible defensive draft, and let our young guys go play.

I think it's smart the more I think about it, it's not going to be a popular perspective that's for sure haha.

On the other hand, losing Tony for no compensation is just really dumb.

For someone who was supposed to be a reliable tackler, he seemed to miss a lot of tackles

Church was far from our weakest link, but I haven't been a fan of his play over the past couple of years

Sad we were the best team in NFC last year and some are talking about rebuilding depressing day. You can say church , Wilcox , Carr, McClain suck all you want. But when you have no bodies to replace these guys it's depressing. It forces us to go for need in the draft. Trying to get cute with these COMP picks.

Your the pessimist.....but yeah when you lose alot and all you do is sign Brice Butler, it is depressing. Maybe all we were worried about was Tony, and didn't concentrate on the rest of the team. Jerry is probably having one last sleepover with Tony tonight, screw the team.

Still worse, who have we brought in for a visit....McCown?? Come on.

Heath is 6'1" and weighs 212. Sounds like a good sized safety to me! Wilcox is 6'0" and 216. Church is 6'2" and 218. You're wringing your hands over 4-6 pounds? Come on, bruh.

I know it's been said a lot, but dude is also incredibly athletic. And might be one of the toughest players we have. Easy guy to root for.

Previous poster probably didn't realize how big he was.

Even though I have never really liked Church, I think we aren't realizing how much worse of a team we are right now.

Every other team has draft picks also, so they can improve there too. Not like we cornered the market on the draft, other teams can draft also.

I liked church but we need to upgrade our secondary big time. Like the Seahawks for years had interchangeable linemen and great secondary. we don't have a secondary and our line is suspect as it is

If you never believe anything else I say, believe this. Don't touch Cyprien with a 10 foot pool. A few of my best friends live in Jacksonville and are die hard Jags fans. Cyprien can't cover to save his life. Barry Church is a major upgrade over Cyprien. I trust their scouting opinions, but I've seen him play plenty myself and he's straight trash. He's Bortles level bad. Don't believe me all you want, but you're laughing at the Jaguars scouting department and they're right about this. Cyprien sucks.

Well it's not over yet but we just lost our 2nd best tackler on the team.

Losing Church is far from a setback.

But the real issue is the plan. Were they expecting to lose him? If so, Wilcox is flirting, what is the deal there?

Is the idea to have Kavon Frazier and Jeff Heath as the veteran safeties, with Anthony Brown and Scandrick?

I don't know. Just will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

I am not all into the idea that a secondary makes a D, but we aren't getting rushers any time soon. And now we are losing secondary players.

We might not even be able to field the same level of mediocre defense next year without some extreme luck in the draft.

yup....It was time to cut the cord. 29 years old....and someone willing to over pay him. Will be interesting to see how much money goes into the 1st year of his deal. 11 million last year netted a 3rd rounder. I'd take that in a heartbeat for Church.

Yeah, I don't understand overpaying for someone like Church.

He's not going to get any better. He will always be who he is now--a decent starter that occasionally makes mistakes and will almost never make any plays

Church was a solid player, good in the locker room, but I have no problem with them letting him go.

Heath came in and changed the game in the playoffs. If it wasnt for a ridiculous call on a PI that didnt exist, he would have had 2 picks in like 10 snaps. He always seems to find the ball. Hes just small, which i dont like.

He's 6-1 and 212 which I don't consider small for a S. But you might.

Let's see, upgrade edge rusher, safety, cb, wr, RT and gets some depth. Better have one hell of a draft

Some fans like to think we can upgrade the players we lose easily. We could draft a safety in the first round and there's no promise that he would be an upgrade.

I'm sad to see this one happen, because Church is a solid player, unless we have a FA plan to replace him. If our plan is to replace him with Heath then I think we'll see how poor of a plan that is next year ... and I like Heath for what he is.
