Good for him, he was a solid player for us who worked hard for this pay day.

Yeah, like Dallas has had any success drafting safties in two decades. He's an underrated player that we will all end up missing when he leaves.

9 years with over 100 tackles...the all time Cowboys leader...come on dude. Do your research. Safeties are always among the most prolific tacklers on every team. Again, a MLB or a safety...who else would it be? Never anyone on the DL; never a CB; never a one side OLB. Safeties are supposed to be prolific tacklers...that's all I'm saying. You can't argue with that.

Your top tacklers should be a LBer.

Of the top 25 tacklers last year, three were safeties.

Do your own research.

You are also talking about an era with Woodson that is a lot different from now.

Traditionally yes. Technically, not necessarily. Your defense or even your scheme from week-to-week could be designed to funnel the plays to the strong safety. Todd Graham (ASU), and other coaches have a history of doing this. Common sense says you do this to the linebacker since they are 5-yards off the LOS versus the 9 a safety typically is. In 46 Bear type defenses (Cardinals) many times the safety is the free player in gap assignment.

That is nice but most defenses do not choose to funnel plays to the SS.

To use that to try to suggest we lost some amazing piece of the D, sorry not buying it.

Oh no, couldn't stand Church. Thought he was a huge liability in the passing game in what is primarily a passing league.

Getting paid is more important than winning for Barry Church. Congrats, you're in the money, loser.

This team is going to be atrocious on D again.

Right now, it looks like we'll have to replace a starting safety and someone will have to pick up the rotation reps for McClain. These things are far from impossible.

I don't like losing Church because it creates another spot we need to fill, but it all depends on how we fill it.

Yup....when asked about his offseason priorities. He said money, money, money
And as long as Dallas cannot compete due to their salary cap mismanagement, this will be a problem.

We can retain the big fish, mainly because we sign them to contracts we can borrow against in the future. The middling ones, forget it.

So if your current employer basically told you that they don't have any money and you had a job offer for much more elsewhere, would your potential career satisfaction make a difference to you?

the last thing anyone should do is compare the world of elite athlete jobs with normal jobs. If I go to my competitor law firm down the street for more money, it isn't the same as going to a team where you will get paid but end up hating your job because you never win anything (remember sports is about winning).

I don't think winning is paramount in a lot of player's mind. It is secondary behind getting money.

I would guess a quarter of the players in this game are in it for the glory. The remainder would chase a check, mainly because they have to.

People are people, whether or not they are athletes or not.

Honestly, if I were in a profession where I knew I would likely have to start over in four-six years into a different life, I would milk it when I got that shot.
