By all accounts, he's a good guy and a very hard worker. He's had a string of bad luck, between missing time early in camp and not getting a chance to build his strength. I believe he's just a guy who's been so much more talented than the WRs he's played up until he got to this level that he's never really had to deal with a lot of athletic adversity. Add to the problem that he's got some challenges in the classroom, that we've had a couple of different DCs, and that he's missed a lot of that training time, and it's just been the worst combination of things for him. As has been mentioned in the thread, he plays man pretty well and struggles primarily in off coverage. Hopefully, we're able to play even more man this season and take advantage of what he gives us there.

I still remember a highly picked wide receiver that had three seasons of injury with the Cowboys, then was like an 8 year Pro Bowler when he moved on...Jimmy Smith.

And indicators are that with the improved pass rush, man on man coverage will be high.

If Dallas gets Jones, Scandrick, Carr and Claiborne healthy, cornerback immediately becomes a strength of the team — given they all play to the best of their ability. Good coverage will make this team’s pass rush even more dangerous and will make the rest of the defense better. As strange as it sounds, keeping Carr and Claiborne on the field is the key to a strong defense for this team.

Just a reminder, and also a quote from Jerry Jones: it takes tragedy to move into greatness...and this applies to the secondary positional group as well. Fickled Mo is pointing upward here, and where there is a team spirit coming through as well...they will find success.

Claiborne is paid for already, so anything we get is a bonus.

Why Dallas fans continue to root against him is beyond me, not talking to you.

If he can get on the field, he can help us.

I don't think anyone is rooting against him. We all want to see him succeed because that would go along way in improving the Cowboys defense. It's just that he's shown absolutely nothing to make us think that he will succeed and is a progress stopper.

Claiborne being healthy would be a huge bonus

For who?

Its best he stays hurt or injured. He's a huge liability out there. When Offenses see him, their eyes light up.

It won't matter if we have a pass rush or not, all the QB has to do is chuck it up in the WR's direction, and you are almost guaranteed a catch, or to see yellow flags because he can't keep his hands to himself.

Everyone on that defense has gone through the "couple of DC's" excuse.

Funny Ryan Williams is a secret weapon yet has done nothing yet Mo is a compete bust. All of this talk of how Williams is really good that is why he was drafted as high as he was yet I see no one cutting any slack to Mo what so ever.

They weren't all doing it as rookies with abbreviated camps and with the earning difficulties Claiborne has.

And it's a reason, and not an excuse.

I think too much is made of his wonderlic score, No doubt he is not going to be a Doctor or rocket scientist but he has been playing football most of his life and at a very high level in college SEC conference I think he has a grasp of the CB position. I think he came out and has had difficulty adjusting to the pro game and setbacks with injuries but in terms of his IQ, I don't see that as an issue.
There have been and are many who are as dumb as rocks but when it comes to playing sports they do have a grasp of what is going on

Mo Claiborne is this years version of 2012 Mike Jenkins. It doesnt matter what he does, he's buried in the depth chart.

Being ready and staying healthy are two very different things...

This.
One thing is having the physical ability to stay on the field, the other is to implement those abilities to be successful on the field. From what I recall, a majority of the time, MC just looks lost in this defense.

I don't think CB is set outside of Scandrick at this stage. Even Jones is a guy whom Dallas may choose to play FS. Not saying Claiborne will come out playing at a high level since he has yet to show that but I do think he can work his way back to the starting lineup if he does show himself to be one of the better CB on the team

Yeah, but a whose playing time expense? Carr and his salary demands PT. Jones status as a 1st rounder demands PT. Scandrick being the team's best CB demands PT. Even a guy like Patmon who made a bunch of plays in a litmited role last year demands PT. Claiborne would've to do a 180 as far as practice time to demand playing time. He's salary is guaranteed so there's no point in cutting him. At the same time there's no pressure on the team on playing him with all the other options at hand.

I was thinking less of his Wonderlic and more of the reports that he had a reading disability. I don't doubt his football IQ, but add up missing time in each training camp with a learning disability and a couple of significant changes in the playbook, and it's not a great situation for him. Especially when he's needing to add strength, anyway, and struggling with confidence issues for maybe the first time in his football life.

It doesn't really matter, all of that comes with the dinner in the NFL, so he's got to overcome it, or fail out of the league. I just tend to pull for guys who are hard workers when I think the reasons for them failing have to do with physical or mental shortcomings rather than with effort.
