Romo and Jones compromised on a six-year termed contract. Twice.

How many years did Dak Prescott and Jones compromise upon in 2021? How many years might the two parties compromise upon for 2024?
Well, if the latest rumors are correct, Dak is the one who wants a long-term contract. Jerry doesn't.

"But there is an effort to get something done before Sunday’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

And, per a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations, progress has been made during talks with Prescott and the Cowboys and a deal is closer than it has been.

What’s also true, per the source, is the length of the deal is not a sticking point in negotiations, as has been reported. They are on the same page in terms of length."
What’s the rush ?

Yeah but Romo also took the discounted rate. He was 14.5% of the cap and signed for less than Rodgers, Flacco, and Ryan who all signed the same offseason. We can only assume but If Dak were to take a discount and accept a Goff/Tua type of deal I would imagine it’s done already.
Not likely.

jerry wants a Return On Investment with Dak.

didnt happen.

The salary is set for a huge increase the next 2 years. I created a thread about it. So no issue going forward.
This was said the last go around with Dak as well. Still no playoff success. Mind you, the only reason we are having this conversation is because Dak and his agent REFUSED to take more than a 4 year deal, so they could rake the front office against the coals again this year. Had he taken that 5 or 6 year extension, we would've had the financial flexibility to make some moves and fill some gaps, maybe field a competent front 7 to stop the run and actually do something that mattered.

The issue is paying the player more money than he's worth. You want to argue that the cap may go up again in a couple of years? Fine. So will the salaries of other players, just as they always have. Name me one team that has paid a non-elite QB elite money, and proceeded to win a championship. With that said, how is this team more likely to win a championship with Dak than without?
