I am curious, when are football players allowed to do something other than eat sleep and breathe football? I mean damn, he will be down there for 5 days max....the man is allowed some personal time.

my concern is how high profile many of his activities are - i have no doubt he's a hard worker -- you simply don't go from a small school UDFA to Pro Bowl QB without being dedicated. The issue here isn't that he's spending time on other things -- but that he's so completely embracing the celebrity aspect -- as we all know sometimes being a celeb is so intoxicating that it becomes all a guy can focus on, leading to bad choices.

again, it isn't a problem yet but the road is littered with guys who fell into that trap.

I agree.

Call me a sourpuss too if you want, but it's not that he isn't living in an office at Valley Ranch -- that's not the point. Of course these guys need some down time. But it's almost as if he's already accomplished something. The truth is, he hasn't.
It's no different than Jesse Palmer doing "The Bachelor" in the offseason when he was with the Giants. And we know Palmer hasn't done anything in the NFL.

And guys we're talking about the Miss Universe pageant. Do you know many scrub celeb judges they go thru for these things? Pageants are the height of fluff.

Regarding concentrating on football. If someone wants to show me evidence of any player in History who has been 100% focused on football I'd be more than a little interested in seeing it.

If you can show me that, I will also show you were that player is either divorced or not married, if he has kids he is paying child support, and he is probably very mal-adjusted to the real world.

No thank you very much.

100% concentrated on football? Nothing else he can do? Who has said that?

Like I said earlier, what he does with his free time is his own business. I just want the Cowboys to break out as a great football team again. When I see a guy who had to, by all accounts, work his way into the position he's in, then take his new found celebrity and seem to relish in it to the point that I feel like its another episode of Entertainment Tonight, it just worries me a bit as to where we will be in the football department. Maybe I'm concerned about nothing. Hope so.

It's true, I don't hear any Colts' fans complaining that their quarterback was just at a white-tie gala with the Queen of England at the White House.

And while I agree with you, Chocolate Lab does have a very good point. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, these guys who do these very same things have already accomplished something and Tony hasn't.

I'm still loving it, though.

What has he embraced that's been so bad? Just curious.

Going to a couple of basketball games
"Dating" a 2nd tier Country singer
Golfing...
Judging a fluff pageant.

Have I missed anything?

I'd be more worried if he was sponsoring club parties like Crayton and Spears.

"Just remember one thing: I don't want a celebrity quarterback on my team. I hate celebrity quarterbacks. You understand?"

"I don't like celebrity quarterbacks. We don't need those. We need battlefield commanders."

Not me, I am loving this. The Dallas Cowboys are America's Team, and it is only fitting for the quarterback to judge the Miss Universe pagent. Well, I guess it would have been more fitting for him to judge the Miss USA pagent, but you get the idea.

If we win a Superbowl with Tony, he's going to be a larger than life character in this town for a long time.

Make no mistake Dallas Cowboys is a global brand so it makes sense he's judging Miss Universe. The only other teams that are known across the globe like Dallas are, the NY Yankees and Manchester United, I would say the LA Lakers as well but I'm not so sure...

Is that why the Miss America pageant can't find a network to carry it? Even SpikeTV dropped it.

And your point is? :) Do you wish to engage what I'm saying, or what you would make me out to be saying?

I'll say it again. I don't mean that he is to live, breath, eat, and drink football. I mean, I want a guy who loves the game more than he loves the perks that come to him because of the game. I want a guy who understands how important this season is, both FOR HIM, and for this team. I want a guy who understands he is at the doorstep of a great possibility both for himself and for his team, so that what is uppermost in his mind is not beauty contests and the latest celebrity party, but being a great QB and leading his team to a great year. I want a guy who knows what Lab already pointed out, "I haven't really done anything yet."

So, I'm not saying 100% football, I'm saying, understand what is right in front of you and do everything in your power to make sure you make the most of it on the football field.

And I'm also admitting that ALL OF THIS MAY ALREADY BE THE CASE! He may have his mind in the exact right place. Goodness, I know I don't know the guy. I haven't had a single conversation with him. EVER.

All I was saying is that when I keep hearing about some party he has attended, or some beauty contest he's judging, it concerns me as a Cowboys fan.

Is that allowable?
