And your point is? :) Do you wish to engage what I'm saying, or what you would make me out to be saying?

I'll say it again. I don't mean that he is to live, breath, eat, and drink football. I mean, I want a guy who loves the game more than he loves the perks that come to him because of the game. I want a guy who understands how important this season is, both FOR HIM, and for this team. I want a guy who understands he is at the doorstep of a great possibility both for himself and for his team, so that what is uppermost in his mind is not beauty contests and the latest celebrity party, but being a great QB and leading his team to a great year. I want a guy who knows what Lab already pointed out, "I haven't really done anything yet."

So, I'm not saying 100% football, I'm saying, understand what is right in front of you and do everything in your power to make sure you make the most of it on the football field.

And I'm also admitting that ALL OF THIS MAY ALREADY BE THE CASE! He may have his mind in the exact right place. Goodness, I know I don't know the guy. I haven't had a single conversation with him. EVER.

All I was saying is that when I keep hearing about some party he has attended, or some beauty contest he's judging, it concerns me as a Cowboys fan.

Is that allowable?

No.

But really, if the coaches are not concerned then we shouldn't be either. If he is doing everything the team asks its all good. When I am working it is about work and getting the job done, when I have my free time I am enjoying life. He has every right to enjoy the fruits of his labor, and yes he has accomplished something, he went from a UFA to the startin QB of the Dallas Cowboys and a Pro Bowl player. Sure he has more to accomplish but you can't expect the guy to live eat and breathe football 24/7.

I find it funny how much up in the personal lives of our players some people are.

It's no different than Jesse Palmer doing "The Bachelor" in the offseason when he was with the Giants. And we know Palmer hasn't done anything in the NFL.

Are you sure you want to use the Jesse Palmer example? I hope Romo becomes more than a jouneyman backup.

Good for him.

If you are tired of hearing about what he does in his free time, I suggest you stop reading every single inconsequential article published about the Cowboys on a daily basis.

The example was used because some are saying he's embracing celebrity status when he hasn't done anything to warrant it. I'm saying the same could've been said for Palmer. It's not about comparing their future football career, it's about not making it larger than what it is.

I understood your comparison. My point is, people who have voiced concerns about Romo's extracurricular activities may suggest Palmer could have been a better football player if he had focussed more on football. He might be their poster child.

then go yell at the media. do you think other football players are staying celebet/single? not going to parties?

romo was a "dream come true" for a large part of last year and the media - as they always do - will hype it up because of his early success. that's what the media has *always* done.

for all we know romo spent 6 nights at valley ranch working till midnight and went out 1 night and THAT'S qhat the media tells us, so that's all we hear, and unfortunately, all most people will think romo is doing.

we only know what in *reality* is a small timeslice of his life and yet look how many people are in an uproar that tony would dare to have a life outside winning games for us. people seem to want him to be more self-sacraficing than we're willing to be ourselves.

not very realistic, yet here we are.

I don't remember anyone fussing when Roy went places with Kelly. I see Roy places and think he needs to be improving his game. I don't mind Romo judging the contest as long as he keeps his main focus:

football, football, and football.:star:

Before you arbitrarily decide there can't be anymore discussion, maybe you should go back and read the previous posts.

Regarding concentrating on football. If someone wants to show me evidence of any player in History who has been 100% focused on football I'd be more than a little interested in seeing it.

If you can show me that, I will also show you were that player is either divorced or not married, if he has kids he is paying child support, and he is probably very mal-adjusted to the real world.

No thank you very much.
Bam!

When Peyton Manning is out fishing he's not concentrating on football. Would anyone care? Would anyone care if Romo was out fishing in his time off?

For somre reason, judging a beauty contest is fundamentally different than fishing to some people.

Look at his 2003 stats, the year BEFORE HE WAS ON THE BACHELOR. He sucks, he always has, and the idea that he some how might have been given mutant like unsuck powers if he diddnt go on a television show in the third off-season of his career is hilarious.

It's because of the bewbs.

Good for him. If you can take advantage of your celebrity, and not have it interfere with your career, why the hell not? He could rpi his knee apart this year, and never be the same. Then, noone's gonna give a crap who Tony Romo is. Live it up.
