I like a select few rap artists. Of those artists I like one or two of their songs, not all. No one rap artists has enough of a popular hit list to fill a half time show.

Also, you have to consider ALOT of rap has cursing. You hear on the radio when the blank out parts of the song/rap due to curses. Goodell knows that if he lets a rapper in they will probably "bend" the rules

To all those people who said hip-hop would aleinate the fan base: do you really think the American public is more familiar with the Who than they are with Jay-Z?

Goodell should have got some of the cleaner urban acts like Jay-Z, Common, etc. instead of the Who. They're a great band and are talented, but please they haven't rocked a stadium in a looooooooong time.

It was 2004 that the whole Janet Jackson thing went down. P-Diddy and Nelly also performed during that halftime show. That was the second time Nelly performed at the Superbowl. He was also there in 2001.

Just bring back Up With People. That way you know no one will be listening.

It's all about keeping an open mind. There's a huge divide between the musical taste of the PLAYERS (some worship) and the fans but that's another topic.

I don't think the divide in musical taste between players and fans is that huge. I think they encompass much of the same demographics. The musical tastes of owners and players is probably huge. Same as with the owners and the fans. The NFL is going to cater to their sponsors and those large corporations that buy ads for the Superbowl. I don't think the NFL is reluctant to have a hip hop artist, but there may exist a perception that maybe these companies would prefer other genres of music at half time. Personally I could care less. I find halftime to be the least likable thing about the Superbowl and always have.

I don't condone his in your face homosexuality, but having said that, I don't have anything against gays lesbians or transgenders- Adam Lambert would be an interesting choice. As long as his contract states he can not perform any overt and gratuitous sexual simulations and/or deviate from choreography during rehearsals. The dude is talented.

As far as the music goes....I'm a pretty eclectic guy....and really dont' give a crap who plays the halftime show....but there are VERY few contemporary "bands" that are worth a ****.

I'd certainly rather see Jay-Z than Creed, or Black-Eyed Peas than any of the other "I sing just like Eddie Veder" bands out there. **** that.

Rock bands of today suck, with a few exceptions....and mainstream rock bands worth a damn are nearly non-existent. Foo Fighters? Hell, they might be too soft now. Even for a super bowl audience.

The Who works for me.

Everyone knows the lyrics to Bon Jovi....wether they want to admit it or not. But they'd probably sing some crap off of one of their "new albums". Thumb is way down.

What is AC/DC doing these days? Meh...I liked Bon Scott better than Johnson anyway.

1) Everybody watches the super bowl, not just hardcore younger fans. Frankly, I couldn't tell you the last time I watched more than 30 seconds of the halftime show, so it matters not to me whether they put on the Who, Jessica Simpson, or an Elvis impersonator. I guess they're figuring that The Who and Tom Petty are at least palatable to most people, even those who aren't fans.

2) Many current artists in pop music (including hip hop) are simply not trustworthy to put on that stage. Just listen to their lyrics. And it's not just hip hop. Artists of other genres who would seem to fit aren't trusted either. Mike & Mike had a long discussion about this one day. They mentioned Springsteen and how he would appear to be ideal, but he's so political, they probably wouldn't ever put him on. There are obviously some they could probably trust, but many of them are too much of a threat to pull something like the Janet Jackson fiasco or spout a few f-words.

The beautiful music they used to play on the radio has degraded into such offensive trashy noise that is so repugnant to me that I just don't listen to the radio anymore.

But that's OK, they can play any kind of crappy noise they want to, I almost never watch any of the halftime stuff or the commercials anyway, it's the football I am interested in. I may not care who wins but I always like to watch a good game.

I usually go outside and cut and split firewood during the halftimes of games - that'll put some hardened muscle on you.

Life is good and it just gets better when you turn off the radio and the TV and get out into the countryside and put in a little quality time with God, however you perceive God to be.

Springsteen did the halftime show last year. I didn't watch it. I guess he didn't do anything political because I don't remember hearing about any thing like that happening and it would have made news.
