Dear music experts, wards of the court, true fans and workaday miscreants:

The point is, whether you like or abhor hip-hop (or even punk or heavy metal), those genres have HUGE followings.
The guy or gal who chose the Who must be out of his or her mind.

With this kind of sombulent halftime show (yeah, Petty sucked too) I hope I die before I get old, too! and i trust you would concur that I die.

And if you poll the players, it's hip-hop by a landslide. Poll the fans (average fans like us) it is hip-hop, rap and rock. If you poll the NFL execs, it is the Who, Tom Petty and maybe Kenny Rodgers or the Lawrence Welk review.

A big divide. The Who qualify as a novelty act as a museum piece as a bizarre late-in-life act. Talking bout my generation? In the 80s. Not anymore.

How about Creedence or the Doobie Brothers? that would be a half time show worth watching!

Bon Jovi already did the super bowl a few years back, I think it was 2002 when the Bucs beat the Raiduhs.

I don't know how accurate this might be, but it's not Hip Hop by a landslide... As of December 2008 Pop, Classic Rock and Country dominate the list. Most of the country's tastes aren't represented by what you see on TV, especially MTV in terms of music.

Next year Myley Cyrus......

That girl can't sing. Period.
I never gave it much attention, but somehow caught her on TV and she simply cannot sing. What a fiasco.

Stupid thread. Stupid. It's not going to solve anything. Facts are The Who is a top 5 rock band of all time and absolute greatness. The black eyed suck or whatever will be irrelevant 3 years from now.

All I know is that when they have the SB, the halftime entertainment better be none other than Dallas' own REVEREND HORTON HEAT!!

I agree with OP. When I read who was going to headline I was like really??

I use halftimes as breaks now.

Kind of funny to see even music my parents think is too old being played at the super bowl however I agree with some of the posts in the thread it's basically their "safe" choice they arent going to do anything outrageous on stage aside from maybe drop dead on "live" tv

Everything else has some angle where it could be taken as over the top or excessively violent, sexual, etc etc.

I pretty much know I'll probably never see a halftime show by anyone I would consider a favorite artist/band so I could care less really.

But if you want to see where the population in the US is headed in musical tastes check out some radio station trends they all lean toward top 40, latin (spanish speaking stations), rap (though sliding downward) and news stations rock radio at least in most major markets is all but dead and everything else you'll see clusters of where you would think it should be popular but thats about it really

Very sad really. Personally I listen to sattelite radio so I get whatever I'm in the mood for at that moment but I feel bad for anyone listening to regular radio.

Not a big fan of hip hop but it can't be any worse than a broken down old hag flashing her nearly non-existent boob a couple of years ago with Justin Timberlake.

What exactly to do you not like about country? The hot women or the massive success the industry has had?

Not all rap music is remixed or reused beats. Come on now.

No more hip hop ever! Rap isn't music, it's talking over someone elses music that has been remixed. The Who rocks even though only two of the original members are still with us.
