I don't mean to pick you guys out of a crowd, but, well, yeah I kinda do.

You two are both obviously unhappy with the Cowboys swapping late round picks in 2 years for Cassel.

If you were the GM, what would you do differently? Going back in time and signing someone previously is not an option. Time travel machines haven't been invented yet. Would you roll with Weeden and Moore? I don't mean for this post to be snarky (well like 10% snarky). I'm truly interested in your perspective, and how you, as a GM, would handle the situation.

I would never have had Weeden as the backup in the first place and then sign Moore as my developmental player if I have so little real faith in either one of them to make a move like this. I would hope I had enough faith in my personnel department and coaching staff giving me the best advise up until this point that I did not have to collect insurance.

I mean seriously. If a rival did this, would you actually not view it as desperate?

Be honest with yourself.

I can see how "insurance" is good and I can talk myself into this. But divorce yourself from your fanhood and it is pretty easy to see how this is just strange.

So I'm stuck with this horrendous QB depth chart behind Romo? I can't point out how I'd never be in this position with such a complete bum about to start next week? Then I'd sign a guy off the street. I wouldn't burn a draft pick for someone else who can't play. You've changed nothing about the situation post-trade. You've only weakened your draft capital.

This one was free. Any future lessons cost you likes.

Well the idea of my post was more to see how you would handle being dropped into the fire, not how you would prevent being dropped in the fire. I agree that backup QB was an area of major concern heading into the season.

I want to know how you would handle the current situation, not how you'd prevent it. The FO rolled the dice on A) Romo staying healthy, and B) Weeden being sufficient as a #2 QB. Romo isn't healthy. The jury is out as to whether (this season) Weeden will play well.

And I legitimately view this move as getting someone in here to backup Weeden. If Weeden is healthy and playing decent, Cassel rides the proverbial pine. I think when Weeden was concussed, that kicked the FO in the ***, as if to say, "You better have a plan C, in case plan B is injured or putrid."

This is speculation on my part: I think they want to develop Moore, and they don't think he's ready for real games yet. Several QBs around the NFL are injured, so they've moved Moore up to the 53 so that he doesn't get signed by another team. There must be something about him that they like.

Anyways, that's how I see it.

(Edit: autocorrect replaced there with they're. Barf)

So basically Alex just likes to complain.

I gave you a like. Who would you pick up off the street?

Bonus question (only if you want to answer): What would you have done this offseason (or the offseason before even) to have a better backup than Weeden? Anyone in particular?

(Edit: fat finger on small screen create typo)

Lol gotta love this hate on cassell or weeden or any other backup. How many fantastic backups are in the league as it is. We just all think we know more than these NFL teams.

This is a good move by the front office. It cost a little too much, but not if it keeps you in contention for a Super Bowl.

If you're down to your third QB, you're in deep doo doo. This is a way of saying even if you're down to your third QB, at least he is decent backup just in case you lose the backup you already have.

If Moore is forced to play, you don't know how he'll respond, and would be lucky to be at .500 for the rest of the schedule until Romo comes back. At least with Cassel, you have a guy who has led a team to the playoffs.

Well, that is a little of the point.

It is an awful QB climate. Bad college talent that does not translate. Bad lifer QBs who recycle because of that deficiency.

And we decided to collect one via trade. Just strange.

So would I. This accomplishes nothing. You currently have complete crap starting at QB. If he goes down, you'll have complete crap replacing him, with or without the trade for Cassel.

We have to win games for the next 8 weeks with awful QB play.

If Weeden is such crap then how can you sit there and say the Cowboys should've stood pat? Since you obviously know more than Jerry, Stephen, and McClay who would you have gotten that is better than both Cassell and Weeden?

I'm pretty darn sure Matt Cassel doesn't in any way, shape or form keep us in contention for a Super Bowl.

I don't know that there is much else that could be done at this point, but the idea that Cassel fixes anything is silly.
