Good move IMO, Jerry and team are going all in realizing that we have a legitimate 2 year window here. It's now or never for our Romo led team. Cassell actually reminds me of Weeden, both have big size and cannons for an arm. All we need is someone to drive the bus until we get our reinforcements in Dec. Our def reinforcements start arriving in 3 weeks, hopefully Romac is ready to go all in.

The Matt Flynn support confuses me. He barely got that Packer team through the Rodgers collarbone injury.

One of the best backups in the league. I feel slightly better. Dallas couldn't have gotten anything better than him. Matt Flynn is on the street for a reason

I look at Matt Cassel as our Steve Beuerlein 2.0.

...now how many of you youngsters will need to go Google Steve Beuerlein?

That's a good comparison.

Hey, Cassel has almost 16,000 passing yards in his career and he's tossed more TD's than picks.

He ain't Romo, but he's better than a lot of guys who are available out there.

"Bus driver" is an apt term for the guy. If you force him to have to pass the ball downfield a lot you're going to get a lot of ugliness. If you just ask him to manage the game... so much the better.

Yep...but, he knows his strengths and weaknesses. He knows where to go with the ball as well. Dallas being successful without Romo and Dez is even more so than ever predicated on Dallas owning the trenches on both sides of the ball. If Dallas does that and Cassell has to play, he can take a shot down field here and there off play action. But, if you are behind on the scoreboard or behind the markers (down and distance) he is more apt to make a mistake or multiple mistakes. Just do your job is the mantra during this 7 game stretch. Cassell fits the mold.

Lol he really didn't. They played in a garbage division. Took only one eight games to win it. They got off to a 5-3 start when Rodgers went down and only won two games without him.

I've been trying to talk myself into Brandon Weeden leading this offense to big things with Romo out for the past two days. I feel a lot better now that there's a plan B here with Cassel.

Beuerlein was decent! Cassell and Weeden will keep the ship afloat until the captain returns. What another exciting day of hole plugging trades.

Brice Butler
Matt Cassell.

In Willie/Stephen/Jerry I trust

Shaun Hill is trash. Just ask St. Louis fans. He had one of the best defenses in the league and still couldn't get them to .500. Matt Flynn had one good game in 2011 and has been garbage since. Shaub had a few good years and fizzled out. Vick could never stay healthy.

Neither could Bradford or Davis. It's the Rams.

Just like with Jon Kitna, there's a reason he's been in this league since 2002 while never being a starter. He's a true backup. 4 years with the Vikings, 4 years with San Fran, 4 years with the Lions, and now back with the Vikings.

Matt Flynn started when Aaron Rodgers went down in 2013, and beat us along with playing well in every other game that season as well. His win against us and Atlanta gave Green Bay a shot to make playoffs when Rodgers came back against the Bears. Which is what you want out of a backup.

Great job by the Cowboys' management finding us a vet quarterback to back up Weeden 48 hours after Tony went down. I think this means they think we've got a shot this year and want to make sure we can keep the team's head above water until Tony gets back.

Oh, Cassel's quarterback ratings for the last three seasons were 66.7, 81.6, and 65.8. Don't know where that "34 since 2012" came from.

Shaun Hill, Matt Flynn (Yeah, still could have signed him), Michael Vick, Matt Schaub were all available this offseason.

The only guy that I would considered AS backup is Matt Flynn but they brought him in and passed on him so.......

Anyone else?
