Bruce Smith redux.

Swapping Taylor of Daniels, they added speed to the perimeter but lot a lost at the point of attack. Taylor is solely a 1 dimensional outside pass rusher, who has lost a step, and a huge liability against the run. Who is the strong side defensive end? The 250 lbs. Carter or the 245 lbs. Jason Taylor? Not to mention he hasn't participated a single day in any kind of football conditioning program this offseason, and who knows what kind of playing weight he's in after dancing around in spandex and sequin outfits all offseason.

It's takes more than a phone call to qualify as serious........

JJ: I just want to call you today and ask about

Mike Brown: He isn't available. We are not trading Chad.

JJ: OK nevermind.

so getting rebuffed means we aren't serious...ok

How do trades like this work do the skins just absord his current contract or do they need to sweeten the pot for Taylor? Even though I hate the fact that the skins got Taylor it has made for some good banter. If this were to happen to the Cowboys we have so much depth that I don't think we would have considered this kind of a move. I really don't think this trade does anything more than make Parcells and Taylor happy to part ways.

He isn't 30, Quincy.

He will be 34 in one month.

Let's put it this way:

Would you give up a 2nd round pick next year and a 6th round pick in 2010 for Greg Ellis?

Greg Ellis had more sacks in 3 less games last year. And Greg Ellis is one year younger then Jason Taylor. He also has 1 less year of wear and tear on his body.

So would you give that up for Ellis right now? I wouldn't.
Yikes, that puts it into perspective.

Our D was 10th in the league last year without Taylor and with a horrible pass rush. How are we that far away from a good defense?

you were 10th because you were good against the run, now you have two weak run-defenders on the edges

teams are going to run your D into submission

not a very smart move in my opinion, however, what do we expect from that bunch

Now, Im not saying this makes the skins a contender in the least. However, how can you say he is on the downside of his career? He has posted double digit sacks in 5 of his last 6 seasons ( double digits in the last 3), he is still posting up multiple forced fumbles a year, and he hasnt missed a game in 8 seasons. Just wondering how he is "definatly on the downside of his career"

He's 34 and more importantly, he plays a very physically demanding position. That's how.

He also gets to play the jets and bills for four games. Besides the Pats this division blows and may be the weakest in the NFL.

No, they just get the thrill of paying a 34 year old DE the rest of his current contract. He's told Vinny C he intends on playing out his final 2 years.

3/2/2004: Signed a six-year, $45 million contract. 2008: $7.5 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus), 2009: $8 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus), 2010: Free Agent. Cap charges: $10 million (2008), $10.5 million (2009).

I'm not saying Taylor hasn't been a very good player throughout his career. Obviously he has. He still may be very good. My point is that one aging DE is not going to put the Skins over the top. They've got lots of holes and Taylor only fills one. If a team was on the verge of the Super Bowl and needed a good pass rusher, this would have been a good idea. The Skins are not that team.

Little Danny Boy just can't help himself

How many times is this strategy of buying up players at the end of their careers going to have to backfire before he takes the hint?

Deion Sanders
Bruce Smith
Mark Brunell
And now Jason Taylor

Have you replaced Sean Taylor? Have done anything notable to your LBers?

Simply adding one aging, albeit good, star, doesn't move you into elite status.

You have a 33 year old CB who is not real happy being in Washington.

You have Carlos Rogers who is coming off a ACL and MCL tear.

Mcintosh had an ACL and MCL as well and that happened in DEC. He wil not be 100% till Dec if that. Add to that your big gun at the LB position is a 33 year old London Fletcher and you have a ton of question marks.

That's just the start but I'll stop the bleeding now. But that is how they are that far away being anything near being able to handle what the cowboys or Giants throw at them.

Getting rebuffed when asking about any players availablity isn't considered making a "serious run" at a player.

Am surprised Taylor would agree to this trade. He wanted to either got to a legit SB contender or a high profile team. Commanders don't fit either category (although playing in the nation's capital I guess passes as high profile but seriously??) so Danny must be paying out huge bucks to keep Taylor for at least 2 years. Will be interesting to watch. Parcells probably got the best deal he could cause there's no way he wants Taylor around the team he's rebuilding. Parcells doesn't like vet players who stand up to him & command the attention Parcells reserves for himself.

Look, this is a dumb move and it improved the Commanders this year. But some of you like Alexander have a hard time reconciling the two.

Let me try to dumb it down for you.

There is this thing call the "long term view" and a thing called "the short term."

The Commanders defense is improved a bit by this move. However, they still have a rookie coach who is in over his head and who will struggle as every young coach does (especially one that has never even be a coordinator before). And they have a GARBAGE QB running this offense: QCampbell will lose them more games than Jason Taylor wins them. So despite the small improvement of the defense, they are not a threat this season.

Maybe they are 7-9 instead of 6-10 now.

Then Taylor walks.

And the Commanders are out of a prime draft pick that could help their team long term.

Thus this is a stupid move.

The ONLY reason this would be a good move or problematic is if they were already a contender and this was a missing puzzle piece.

But between Zorn and QCampbell, the team is going to flounder hard.

with Daniels gone for the yr, getting Taylor definitely helps them...he's clearly a better player than Daniels, and Taylor will fit well into their defense.

that said, I still see the Skins finishing last in our division by a good bit

Does Taylor help the Commanders this year? Yes. All you have to do is look at who he is replacing and what they needed. However, saying that, this was a dumb move for them. Taylor has stated that he might only play one more year. Is a 2nd and a 6th worth it to get a little better for 1 year? A year in which you aren't even a contender for a Superbowl? No.

Look at the age of the Skins' lines. This helps them this year but puts them further behind in what they really need to do, and that is to get younger on both lines.

This is Snyders way of milking money out of idiot Commanders fans. This makes them buy jersey's, sell out games...nothing more. This is Snyder being Snyder, period.

LOL, All owner want to make money!! tell me an owner that dont want to sell jersey's, sell out games and make money from the fan? Owner of a sport teams need to make money. We need to stop using Contender dont mean nothing. Giants was not contender to win super bowl last year but Giants did. Cowboys was fav to win super bowl last few year but what that got you? Sitting at home with us watching super bowl game.
