Although Wilkinson was a consensus #1 overall pick. High praise for a defensive tackle.

You're right that Haynesworth is arguably the league's best today.

But for the record, I wouldn't be 'afraid' if the Commanders signed him as I feel that he got his act together solely for his big payday.

Buyer beware.

Definatly a buyer beware. 100 million for a defensive tackle is absurd, and raises a lot of issues.

On the bright side though, you are obviously getting a good player. Also, picking up a DT such as albert in FA would allow the skins to focus on the other side of the line with their first round pick, and grab a much needed olineman.

This is all irrelevant right now, considering we will not know until free agency officially starts.

When King said that Haynesworth has never played more than 65% of his team's snaps, is that because of injuries? Or does he take regular breathers? He doesn't come off on passing downs right, I thought he was supposed to be a good interior pass rusher?

It's hard to be excited about this news as a Skins fan because of our history.
he hasn't played a full 16 games since his rookie season. but he also plays his butt off for a very large dude. so i'd say it's both.

I'm a bit confused why D Snyder would spend so much on a single FA - unless he really thought that one player was going to put the Commanders over the top.

IMO, I'm not sure that the QB position is even settled for the Commanders right now. Is JC really the long-term option? If the staff truly believes that JC is the right guy, then maybe you spend that type of money assuming Haynesworth is the missing piece to the puzzle. Otherwise, I'd rather spread that money out over 2-3 solid FAs at various positions. That may give me more bang for my buck.

From the way the organization talks, that may be what they think. I think its obvious that this team has a bunch needs, and has more than just one need to be a contender. Our defense was still ranked in the top 10 last year. I would think that our offensive line would be a much bigger issue right now.

But its impossible to know whats going through the head of people at Commanders park. All I can do as a fan is sit back, and speculate.

On a different note, a team that in theory could be a top player away from a Super Bowl berth is Minn, for example. If they had a solid QB, they could go a long way, IMO.

I'm inclined to think this is bad news for us, but rarely do these high-priced acquisitions pan out for the Skins. We'll see.

He's got mega-talent, but he's generally underachieved.

He may turn out to be a stud for 5 years for the skins, but I'd hate for it to be my $100M on the line with him.

For the past 2 years, Haynesworth has been one of the elite defensive players in the league.

Some will say he is motivated by money. Every player is. The only difference is the extent to which they are motivated by it.

Even if Haynesworth would slack off some after a big signing, he's still a SIGNIGICANT upgrade over what they have now.

If they sign him, I hope its too a huge contract like it is being rumored. Because then, I can at least hope it hamstrings them somehow (although, they've proven time and time again they can manipulate the cap pretty well). Because from a talent perspective, this sucks if the rumor is true.
i agree

anyone acting like this guy is just gonna completely fall of the map if he gets paid is just kidding themselve.

i would hate to see him in washington but like you said i hope his giant contract can at least hurt their cap situation and affect future moves. something negative has to come out of it lol cause this guy is a beast and unlike some on here i believe he will continue to be on the premier defensive players in the league

I have a question that I don't want to go through 7 pages of posts to find out.

I have been reading on other forums that Albert hates the Cowboys....is this true?

Just wondering.

Danny and Jerry tend to be a little star struck. He would boost their defense tremendously, however Gurode would be extra motivated twice a year, so that's a great thing!

No player is worth 100 million, unless your name is peyton manning or tom brady. I would not mind signing haynesworth, for 80 million or less, but 100 million? Thats absolutely ridiculous, and no player besides an elite QB is worth anywhere close to that. Honestly, I'd be happier upgrading the O-line, cutting springs and taylor, and using both the FA/draft to acquire some depth on the lines.

That being said, the skins are always linked to high priced free agents because of our history. It doesnt mean it will happen. I dont think the skins could afford a 100 million contract, even as good as snyder and cerrato are with the cap.

Fixed.

LOL!!!!!!

100 million at 15-16 per for him? This would be like Christmas coming early this year if the Commanders did this.

That's probably how most GMs would feel. I didn't think the Skins DEs were that good. Not saying bad but are they fixed there? Still Haynesworth is going to instantly improve any DL he plays on.
